PRODUCT SAFETY SYMBOLS
The symbols below are used on the lift system to identify warnings, mandatory actions, and prohibited
actions. It is very important for you to read and understand them completely.
Removal of grounding prong can create electrical hazard. If necessary,
properly install an approved 3-pronged adapter to an electrical outlet having
2-pronged plug access.
Do not connect an extension cord to the charger cord.
Read and follow the information in the owner’s manual.
Maximum lifting capacity.

Hitch Classes
!A Class I hitch has a maximum tongue weight of
200 lbs. (90.75 kg).
!A Class II hitch has a maximum tongue weight of
350 lbs. (158.75 kg).
!A Class III hitch has a maximum tongue weight
of 500 lbs. (225.75 kg).
!A ClassIV hitch has a maximum tongue weight of
1200 lbs. (544.30 kg).

HITCH CLASS INFORMATION
Hitchescome ina variety of sizes and are designated by class. The classes range from Class I to Class IV. The
heavier the load, the larger class of hitch having a greater tongueweight needed. Tongueweight is the amount
of weight (downward force) the load puts on the hitch. See figure1.
Thecombinedweightofyourliftandmobility vehicle gives you the minimum tongue weightforyourapplication.
Exceedingthe tongue weight of a hitch creates an unsafe driving situation and can damage the hitch and/orthe
vehicle.See figures 2and 3.

LIFTING CAPABILITIES
The ExteriorLift System is anelectromechanical device designed tolift various typesof mobility devices for the
purposeof vehicle transport. The Exterior Lift System is designed for a maximumClass 2 hitch allowance of
190lbs. (86 kg) and a maximum Class 3 hitch allowance of 325 lbs.(147 kg). Under no circumstances should
theExterior Lift System be made to exceed this weight limit. Subjecting the lift system tothe strainof hoisting
more than it is designed to lift may cause it to fail, resulting in damage to the mobility device and/or the lift
operator. Refer to the mobility device owner’s manual for information on the overall weight of the mobility
devicebeforelifting.

INSTALLATION
TheExteriorLiftSystemisdesignedtobe mounted to a vehicle hitch system.Beforeliftinstallation,ensurethatthe
hitchshows nosigns of rust or wear and that the front and rear vehicle suspension is acceptable. If any vehicle
alterationsarenecessary, makesurethat you fully understandtheinstructionsfor drilling or cuttingbeforemaking
anyalterations.
WARNING! Before drilling or cutting into the vehicle, make absolutely certain through
visual inspection that there are no obstructions in the path of the drill bit, such as the fuel
tank, exhaust pipes, or electrical wires.
LIFTING NON-PRIDE PRODUCTS
TheExterior Lift Systemis an extremelyversatile device, which users mayemploy to liftitems other thanPride
products.Pridehasno control over suchuse,norcan Pride anticipate every possibleuseto which a lift systemmay
be put. Lifting non-Pride products with the Exterior Lift System is done at the operator’s own risk, and Pride
acceptsnoliabilityfor damage or injuryresultingfrom such use.
PRELIFT INSPECTION
Beforeoperatingthe Exterior Lift System,inspect your surroundings toensurethat the liftsystemhas a clear path
ofoperation. Remove any possible obstructionsbefore operating the lift anddo not allow children tooperate or
playnearthelift.
OPERATOR POSITIONING
Theoperatorofthe lift should standasafedistance from the unitbeinglifted/lowered to ensure that his/herfeetare
neverpositionedunder the raised liftplatform.The operator should alsokeephis/her hands clearofthe lift system
toavoidthe potential for injury.
TRANSPORT VEHICLE POSITIONING
Besureyourvehicleis parked on flat, levelgroundbeforeattemptingto load, lift, or removeamobilitydevicewith
theExterior Lift System.Make sure thevehicle emergency park brake isengaged before loadingor unloading a
mobilitydevice.

Followthese steps to install the Exterior Lift System:
1. Remove thepreassembled mounting hardwarefrom the
hitchtube.
2. Mountthe hitch tube totheliftframeusingthepreviously
removedmountinghardware. See figure5.
3. Slidethehitchtubeintothevehiclehitchreceiver,aligning
themountinghole closest to theliftwiththemountinghole
inthehitch receiver.Seefigure 6.
WARNING! Lift system components are
heavy. Ask for assistance if necessary
when attaching the lift frame to the hitch
receiver, and use proper lifting
techniques.
WARNING! Avoid pinch points! Do not hold
the lift frame by the pivot points when
mounting the lift frame to the hitch
receiver.
4. Secure the hitch tube with the supplied bolt and nut,
inserting the bolt from the passenger’s side through
to the driver’s side of the hitch. See figure 6.
WARNING! Threading the bolt from the
wrong side or allowing the bolt to turn
while tightening the nut will dislodge the
threaded insert in the hitch tube.
WARNING! Do not attach a Class 2 hitch
tube to a Class 3 hitch receiver.
NOTE: Make sure the hitch bolt is tightened firmly
before securing the nut to the hitch assembly to mini-
mize the chance that the lift will tilt during trans-
port.
NOTE: Make sure the hitch tube and lift platform are
parallel to the ground before operating the lift system.
An angled hitch tube may cause unreliable lift opera-
tion and/or damage to the lift system.

5. Route theliftsystemwiringharness through the vehicle. Referto“WiringHarness Installation.”
WARNING! Route the wiring harness through the vehicle rather than under the vehicle to
avoid coming in contact with sharp edges, extreme temperatures, moving parts, and
roadway debris including road salt and other highly corrosive materials. Power shorts may
occur if wires come in contact with hot exhaust parts or sharp edges.
WARNING! Never attach the wiring harness to a secondary power source. Do not attempt
to use trailer wiring to power the lift system. The wiring harness must be connected directly
to the vehicle battery.
EXTERIOR LIFT SYSTEM INSTALLATION
TheExteriorLiftSystemisdesignedtobeeasilyinstalledintoanyvehicleequippedwithaClass2orClass3hitchreceiver.
Thehitchreceivershouldbeinstallednohigherthan21in.(53cm)fromthebottomofthehitchtubetotheground.
NOTE: Once installed, the lift system may obstruct the view of the vehicle license plate. Research the
local laws for license plate obstruction in your area and install the license plate kit. Contact your autho-
rized Pride Provider for more information.
WARNING! Prevent product and/or vehicle damage! The Exterior Lift should be installed
by an authorized service technician only.
Followthese stepsto installthe Lock-Down-Arm:
1. Lay theliftsystem flat on thefloor.
NOTE: If your lift system is equipped with a permanent threaded stud, removal of the pivot tube and
pivot bolt is not necessary for lock-down arm installation. See figure 4.
2. Apply power tothe lift until there isenough clearance to remove thepivot bolt. See figure 4.
NOTE: If the pivot bolt does not remove easily, apply power to the lift and make a slight adjustment to
the angle of the pivot tube. Repeat as necessary.
3. Remove the pivot bolt. Keep hardware for reassembly.
4. Remove the pivot tube. Seefigure 4.
5. Insert thesuppliedscrewthrough thecountersunk hole ofthe u-bracket (from theinsideout).
6. Position the lock-down arm onto the screw and insert the pivot bolt through the u-bracket and lock-down
arm.Thepivot bolt isused for alignmentpurposesat this time.
7. Securethe nut to the securement screwand install the cap. Removethe pivot bolt.
8. Positionthepivottubeontotheu-bracketandreinsertthepivotboltthroughtheu-bracket,pivottube,andlock-downarm.
9. Install the nutback ontothe pivotbolt andinstall thecap. Donot overtighten the nut.Ensure the pivottube
pivotsfreelywithoutbinding.

Onboard Battery Installation
Theoptionalonboard battery isdesigned for easyinstal-
lationasitdoesnotrequireanywiresto be routed through
orunderthe vehicle.
Followthese steps to install the onboard battery:
1. Align themounting holes inthe battery case bracket
withthosein the accessory bracketlocatedunder the
keyswitch tube. Seefigure 8.
2. Secure thebatterycase to theaccessorybracket with
thesupplied hardware. Seefigure 8.
3. Insertthe onboardbatteryintothebatterycase, making
surethat theconnector on the bottom of the battery
alignsand fully connectswith the matingconnector
insidethe battery case.
4. Plug the battery cord on the bottom of the battery
caseintothe mating connector runningfromthe mo-
tor.See figure 8.

NOTE: If your lift is equipped with an onboard battery, refer to “Onboard Battery Installation.”
6. Install the liftplatformkit. Refer to theinstructionssuppliedwith the kit.
Wiring Harness Installation
The wiring harnessis approximately 25ft. (7.62 meters) long andwill accommodate most vehicles.
NOTE: You may wish to perform a practice run before installing the wiring harness. Route a piece of
light rope (equivalent to the gage of the wiring harness) along the anticipated path observing contact
points, potential rubbing/chafing points, and any sharp edges. Remove sharp edges with a fine grade
file, then treat the steel with a rust inhibitor or metal sealant.
Followthese steps toroute the ExteriorLift System wiring harness:
1. Route thelift system wiringharness (starting atthe lift) throughthe interior ofthe vehicle untilyou reach the
vehiclebattery. See figure7.Youwilltypicallyfindpassthroughpointsattherearlighting assemblies, which will
enableyou to route the cable through the trunk andunder theback seat.
2. Conceal the harness behind or under the interior panels of the vehicle (there should beexisting holes). Be
certainthat the harness is protected witha rubber grommetwhen passing itthrough the metal panelsand into
theenginecompartment.
3. Insidethe engine compartment, secure theharnesstothefirewallandtheinnerfenderwith plastic wire ties. Use
care not tocause abrasions to the wiringharness. It is importantto secure the wiring harness atvarious points
alongitsrunof the vehicle.
WARNING! Do not cut or shorten the wiring harness. If the harness is too long, coil the
excess wire and secure it with plastic wire ties.
4. Connect the red wire to the positive (+) terminal and the black (grounding) wire to the negative (-)
terminal of the vehicle battery.
WARNING! Before operating the lift, inspect the wiring harness for proper routing and
grounding. Improper routing can cause damage to the harness, and improper grounding
can cause damage to the electrical system.

IV. OPERATION
WARNING! For lift systems equipped with the automatic lock-down arm, do not attempt to
adjust the pressure of the arm. This feature has been configured by your authorized Pride
Provider to meet your needs and requires no further adjustment.
WARNING! If your scooter is equipped with pneumatic drive tires, make sure the tires are
inflated to the recommended pressure labeled on the tire sidewall. This will ensure that
the scooter is at the correct deck height for proper lock-down arm positioning.
NOTE: Inspect the tie-down straps before each use to ensure there are no signs of fraying or wear.
Ensure that the mobility device is secured properly before transport. Pride is not liable for damage or
loss resulting from improper securing of a mobility device.
6. Turn and hold thekey counterclockwise toraise the lift.Seefigure 9. Continueto raise thelift until the motor
stops,then release the key.
NOTE: As the lift platform rises, the automatic lock-down arm activates to secure the scooter to the lift
platform. You may need to adjust the scooter tiller position to prevent interference with the smooth
operation of the automatic lock-down arm.
NOTE: The motor will stop automatically at the top of its stroke and will emit a clicking sound.
Release the key immediately upon hearing this sound, then turn the key counterclockwise one more
time for no more than 2 seconds to ensure the platform is in the fully raised position.
NOTE: Pay attention to the path of the lift platform during operation. Make sure the lift does not rub
against or interfere with the vehicle in any way. If you notice any contact between the lift platform and
the vehicle, stop lift operation immediately and contact your authorized Pride Provider for assistance.
Followthese steps toremove a mobility device from the Exterior Lift System:
1. Lower theliftplatform to theground.
2. Unfasten thetie-down straps orallow the lock-down armto automatically returnto the verticalposition.
3. Unloadthe mobility device from theliftplatform.
4. Raise theliftplatform for storage, noting thatitwill automatically fold intoastowedposition.
5. Remove thekeyfrom the liftsystem when it isnot in use.
WARNING! Do not attempt to manually pull
the lift platform down from the stowed
position. Doing so will result in product
damage and will void the product
warranty.
MANUAL EXTERIOR LIFT OPERATION
Theliftsystemisequippedwith a manual crank thatservesas
backup in the event of a power failure. Using the supplied
tool, rotate the manual crank (located on top of the motor
housing) clockwise or counterclockwise to move the plat-
formup or down. See figure 11.

IV. OPERATION
EXTERIOR LIFT SYSTEM OPERATION
WARNING! The Exterior Lift System is intended for the transport of mobility devices only.
The mobility device must be unoccupied before operating the lift.
WARNING! Do not exceed the load limits of your vehicle or hitch system as specified by
the vehicle manufacturer.
WARNING! Use extreme caution when driving with the lift installed on your vehicle. Be
aware that the lift extends away from the back of the vehicle and extra clearance is
needed when backing up, turning, parking, or driving through driveway entrances/exits.
Drive slowly when negotiating pot holes, road bumps, and railroad tracks.

Followthese steps to operate the Exterior Lift System:
1. Insert thekey into thekey switch.
2. Turn and hold the key clockwise to lower the lift plat-
form. See figure 9. Release the key as soon as the lift
platformtouchesthe ground.
3. Set the speed control ofthe mobility device to theslow-
estsetting and carefullydrive your mobility device onto
theliftplatform, being sureto center the mobilitydevice
onthe platform tothe best of your ability.
NOTE: You may wish to load the mobility device while
standing next to it using the manual freewheel feature.
Refer to the mobility device owner’s manual for more
information on manual freewheel mode.
4. Shut downthe power tothe mobility device, removethe
keyifapplicable, and make suretheunit is in drivemode
(drive motors engaged). Refer to the mobility device
owner’smanual for more informationondrive mode.

system transport, as the mobility device
could roll
5. Securethe mobility device to the platform using either the
retractable tie-down straps (see figure 10) for power
chairsor the automatic lock-down armfor scooters.

tie-down straps over the seatback or
armrests of a mobility device.

while the battery is charging.
PROHIBITED! Do no expose the battery charger to rain or other sources of moisture unless
it has been tested for outdoor use. Refer to the manual supplied with the battery charger
for more information.
WARNING! Explosive gases may be generated while charging the battery. Keep the battery
and the battery charger away from sources of ignition such as flames or sparks and provide
adequate ventilation when charging the battery.
WARNING! Do not attempt to charge the battery and operate the lift system at the same
time.
WARNING! Do not attempt to wire the lift system directly to the vehicle battery if the lift
system is equipped with an onboard battery.
WARNING! You must recharge the lift system battery with the supplied battery charger.
Do not use an automotive-type battery charger.
WARNING! If the battery is exposed to adverse or extreme weather conditions, then it
must be allowed to adjust to the difference in environmental conditions before being
charged.
WARNING! Inspect the battery charger, wiring, and connectors for damage before each
use. Contact your authorized Pride Provider if damage is found.
WARNING! Do not attempt to open the battery charger case. If the battery charger does
not appear to be working correctly, contact your authorized Pride Provider.
BATTERY CHARGING
Followthese steps tocharge the onboardbattery:
1. Remove the onboard battery from the battery case and
placeit near astandard electrical outlet.
2. Plug the charger cord into the mating socketlocated on
the bottomof the battery case, then connect thecharger
cord to a standard electricaloutlet. See figure 12.
NOTE: It is recommended that you replace the battery
every 3–5 years. Store the battery in a moisture-free
environment when not in use.
MANDATORY! Read the battery charging
instructions in this manual and in the
manual supplied with the battery charger
before charging the battery.
PROHIBITED! Never use an extension
cord to plug in your charger cord. Plug
the charger cord directly into a properly
wired standard electrical outlet.

WARNING! Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead and
lead compounds. Wear goggles and wash hands after handling.
MANDATORY! Use only AGM or Gel-Cell batteries.

to reduce the risk of leakage or explosive conditions.

WARNING! Connect the battery harnesses in the proper manner. RED (+) cables must be
connected to positive (+) battery terminals/posts. BLACK (-) cables must be connected to
negative (-) battery terminals/posts. REPLACE cables immediately if damaged. Protective
caps must be installed over all battery terminals.
NOTE: If you encounter a damaged or cracked battery, immediately enclose it in a plastic bag and call
your authorized Pride Provider for instructions on disposal. Your authorized Pride Provider will also
have the necessary information on battery recycling, which is our recommended course of action.
Follow these steps to replace the onboard bat-
tery(figure 13):
1. Unfasten thebattery securement strap located at
thebottom of the battery box.
2. Remove the hardware from the battery secure-
mentbracket andremove the bracket.
3. Remove the hardware from the battery connec-
tor.
4. Slide thebattery out ofthe battery box to expose
thebattery harness.
5. Disconnect thebatteryharnessesfrom the battery
terminals.
6. Connect thebattery harnesses to thenew battery.
7. Slide thenew battery into the batterybox.
8. Reinstall thehardware to securethe battery con-
nectorandtighten.
9. Reinstall the battery securement bracket and
tightenthehardware.
10. Refasten the battery securement strap.

questionableinany way,contactyourauthorizedPride
Providerimmediately.Do not attempt to repair,ad-
just,ormodify the manufacturersettings and materi-
als.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Anyelectromechanical device occasionallyrequires some troubleshooting. However,most of the problems that
mayarise can usually be solved with abit of thoughtand common sense.Many of theseproblems occur because
thebattery is not fully chargedor becausethe battery is worn downand can no longer hold a charge.
What if the motor on my lift system will not operate?
!Make sure the onboard battery or vehicle battery is fully charged.
!Makesure all connections to the motor and battery are secure.
!Checkthe wiring harnessfor signs of wear ordecay. Replace the harnessif necessary.
Whatif the lift system operatesslowly up ordown?

90-Day Maintenance Schedule
!Lowerthe platform to the ground, clean awayany rem-
nantsofoldgreasefrom the T-barinner-telescopingtube,
andapplya new coatof all-weather lithium greaseto the
inner-telescopingtube.See figure 14.
!Applyall-weatherlithiumgreasetothepivotpointsofthe
T-bar.
!Lubricatethekeyswitchwith an electrical-type lubricant
(not WD-40).
!Removethe vehicle batteryconnections and cleanthem
toensureuninterruptedelectronic connection.
!Torquethehitch bolt.
!Checkthe liftsystem for loose or damaged parts. Have
your authorized Pride Provider repair or replace any

General Cleaning Guidelines
Theliftsystemcanbe hand washed along withthevehiclewithsoap and water.However,automaticdrive-through

!Theliftplatform surface maybecome slippery ifexposedto moisture (ice,snow,rain, mist/sprayconditions,
etc.). Use caution when loading/unloading a mobility device in these conditions and wipe off any excess
