andrecognition.With64pre‐recordedsounds‐somewillmakeyoulaugh,somewillevoke
memoriesandsomewillstimulatetheimagination.Soundscanbeassociatedwithstories
yourelate‐usethemtosetthesceneandprovideanaudiblebackdroptoyournarration.
Clientsofallabilitiescanjoinin.
Pre‐recordedsoundsaredividedinto8groups:people,hygiene,indoor,animal,vehicles,
city,who'sjob?andvarious.Soundsinclude:telephone,noseblowing,whistling,burping,
applause,cuckoo,cow,pig,doorbell,ship,car,churchbells,conversationandfireworks.
Thelargerectangularbuttonsonthebackingboardmirrorthefunctionsoftheroundkeys
onthekeyboard.Whenabuttonispressed,thewallboardsendsaninfrared(IR)signalto
thekeyboardandthecorrespondingkeyboardbuttonisactivated.

OPERATION
Play
ThePre‐recordedsoundshavebeensplitupinto8groupswhichareselectedbyusingthe
“Mode”buttonsonthecontrolpanel.Pressinganyofthe8buttonsonthefrontofthe
Palettowillactivate1of8soundsfromtheselectedgroup.TheredLEDindicatesthata
playbuttonhasbeenpressed.Theentiresoundwillplaybeforeanotherbuttoncanbe
activated.Whilstasoundisbeingplayed,allfunctionsbeside‘volume’aredeactivated.

PressingthevolumebuttonswillincreaseordecreasethevolumeofthePalettowhilegiving
spokeninformation.
Thisproductisnotcontrollablebyaremotecontrol.
Recording
SoundGroups9to16areusedforstoringyourownrecordingswhichcanbefromthe
includedmicrophoneviathe“Mic”SocketoranotheraudiodevicesuchasaCDplayeror
Mp3playerviathe“LineIn”socket.Asuitablecableforconnectingthedevicestothe“line
in”canbepurchasedfrommosthi‐fiequipmentshops.Anerrormessageisplayedifyou
attempttorecordwithinoneofthesoundgroupswithpermanentsounds.
Therecordfunctionisselectedbypressingthe“Rec”buttononthecontrolpanel.Pressing
thebuttononce,willselectrecordingfromaconnectedmicrophoneandaspokenmessage
willbeheard.Pressingthebuttonagainwillselectrecordingfromthe‘LineIn’.The
followingaudioequipmentmaybeusedfor‘LineIn’recording:MP3players,cassette
players,CDplayers,computers.
Thedifferencebetweenrecordingviaamicrophoneandrecordingviathe‘LineOn’portis
that‘LineIn’playsthesoundduringrecording.Thisdoesnothappenwhenrecordingviaa
microphone.
PressingthebuttononcemorewillreturnthePalettotoitsnormalmode.
1.Select“soundgroup9”viathemodebuttonsreadyforrecording.
2.ConnectthedeviceyouwishtorecordfromtothePalettoviatheappropriatesocket.
3.Selectthesourceyouarerecordingfromviathe“Rec”buttonandavoicewillstatethe
selectedmode.
4.AlltheLED’sshouldnowbeflashingandthePalettoisnowreadytorecordyoursound.
5.Press1ofthe8buttonsyouwanttorecordthesoundtoandthiswillactivatetherecord
function.
6.RecordingsinprogressareindicatedbytheLEDbeingcontinuouslyilluminated.
7.Thenewrecordingswillreplacetheoldrecordingsonthebutton(SoundGroups1‐8can
notberecordedonandwillgenerateanerrormessage).
8.Recordingscanbestoppedbypressingthesame“play”buttonasfirstselectedandthen
theMMCwillbeupdatedwiththerecordedinformation(thiscantakeafewseconds).
WhenFinishedthePalettowillplaybackthelastsoundrecorded.
9.ThePalettoshouldthenreturnbacktothenormalmodeaftertherecordingasbeen
stopped.
10.Repeatthisprocedureforeachrecording.
NB:IfthememorycapacityoftheMMCcardisfullitwillbenecessarytoreplaceexisting
sounds.AspokenmessageannounceswhenthememorycapacityoftheMMCcardisfull.If
thememorybecomesfullduringarecording,therecordingwillstopandthemessagewill
playback.

DeletingSounds
Individualsoundscannotbecompletelydeleted,butalongsoundcanbereplacedbya
shortedone,freeingupmemoryontheMMCcard.
Theentiregroupofsounds(Group9)canbedeletedbyselecting“Soundgroup9“andthen
holdingthe“Scan”buttondownforatleast5seconds,thenreleasethebutton.
AlltheLED’sonthePalettoshouldLightandturnofffromlefttoright.WhenanLEDturns
offthesoundasbeendeleted.WhenalltheLED’shaveturnedofftheunitwillreturnback
to“Normalmode”.

•Makesurethatyoucanaccessallcables–hangthemoverthetoptowardsthefront

•Oncethewhitebackboardissecurelyattachedtothewall,connectthemaleplugof
thepowersupplytotheDCfemaleconnectorattachedtotheelectronicsboxatthe
backofthewhiteboard.Thefemaleconnectorisasocketandiswiderthanthe
malesocket.
•Locatethefourproudscrewsonthewhiteboard–thekeyboardismountedonto
these.Alignthekeyholesinthebackofthekeyboardwiththeproudscrewsofthe
whitebackboard.Pushgentlyonandthendown.Pleasenote:thisisintentionally
notapermanentfixing–thekeyboardisintendedtobeeasilyremovedfortabletop
use.Ifthekeyboardistobeusedwithoutthewhitebackboard,connectthemale
plugfromthepowersupplydirectlyintothe6vDCsocketofthekeyboard.

•Regularlychecktheproductfordamageandceaseuseifdamagefound.
•Useonlytheadaptersupplied.Ceaseuseifthisbecomesdamaged.
•UseonlyPalettomemorycards.
•Takeallappropriatemeasurestoavoidunsuperviseduseandphysicaldamage.Do
notstrikeordropthePaletto.
•ProtectthePalettofromdustasmuchaspossible.
•DonotattempttoaccesstheinteriorofthePaletto.
•CleanthePalettowithacloththathasbeenveryslightlydampenedwithamild
soap‐basedsolution.Wipedryimmediatelywithadrycloth.
•NeverallowthePalettotobecomewet.ProtectthePalettoandallitspartsfrom
moisture.
•MakesurethePalettoisNOTconnectedtoanadapterandpluggedinwhen
removingorinsertingthememorycard.Thismaydestroydatastoredonthe
memorycard.
•Oncethisproductiseventuallyexhausted,pleasedisposeofitappropriatelyand
responsibly.
15. Troubleshooting
Intheunlikelyeventofproductfailure,pleasecheckthefollowing:
Problem:NosoundscanbeheardandnoLED’slightupwhenpressingtheplaybuttonsof
thePaletto
•CheckthattheadapterisconnectedtothePalettoandthewallsocket
Problem:NosoundscanbeheardbuttheLED’slightupwhenthe“play”buttonsare
pressed
•CheckthattheMMCcardhasbeeninsertedcorrectly.
•Checkwhichsoundgroupisselected.Itispossiblethatnosoundhasbeenrecordedyet.
Problem:Anerrormessageisplayedwhenrecording
•Checkthatthesoundgroups9to16areselected.Onlygroups9to16allowrecording.
Problem:Recordingisimmediatelyinterrupted
•TheMMCisfull.FreeupsomespaceontheMMCbyrecordingshortersoundsordeleting.
