RG-S6910-3C series switches are data center oriented high density 100G core switches, providing 100Gaccess, low
latency, and complete data center features. RG-S6910-3C series switches provide 96 100G ports and can be used with

The RG-S6910-3Cprovides thefollowingports:
Universalserial bus (USB)port:This port canconnect withUSB memoryto save logs, switchversions,warnings
andother diagnosticmessages.Therefore,it is moreconvenientto upgradethe softwareversion ofthe switchon
lineandsave the loginformation.
To protect the data and avoid device damage,usequalifiedUSBflash disks of good brands.At the sametime,the
localUSB port is compatible withmostofthe USB controllers exceptsome USBflashdisks.
RG-S6910-3C series switches support debugging, configuration, maintenance, management and switch software
uploadingofConsoleports.
Consoleport:UseRS-232interfaceelectrical level andstandardRJ45connector.This interfaceis connected with
the serialportof terminalPC to perform system debugging,configuration,maintenance,management,and switch
software uploading.
MGMT port:This is an out-bandEthernet port, whichuses standardRJ45connector.This interfaceis connected
with Ethernetport of a PC to perform program downloading.
QSFP28 port: Thereare 96 100G QSFP28 ports whichsupportoptical modulesand DAC coppercables.These
ports can workin 100G/40G modeand 4x25G/4x10G mode.

The RG-S6910-3Cseries switchessupportRG-PA1200I-Fpowersupplymodule.Thesmartpowersupplymodule
supports powermanagement,andthe switch can readinput power,inputcurrent, and temperature in realtime.The
powersupplymodulesupports hotswapping.
The RG-S6910-3Cseries switches support2+2 powersupplyredundancy. To improvethe stabilityandreliabilityof
the entire system, it is recommended to configure 2+2 power supply redundancy. When the four power supply
modules worknormally,the switchis in the status ofcurrentsharing.
It requires at leasttwo powersupplymodules to work normally.Filler panels needto be installedinthe unoccupied
powersupplymoduleslots toensureventilationandheatdissipation andavoiddusts.
Heat Dissipation
The workingtemperature ofthe RG-S6910-3Cswitches is 0°Cto40°C (32°F to 104°F), and the heat dissipation design
needs toensurethestability,safety andmaintainabilityinsuch environment.TheRG-S6910-3Cseries switches adopt
fan ventilationand forcedconvection to ensurethe device can work normallyin specifiedenvironment.Dustthedevice
every three months toavoid blockingthe ventilationopenings.
The RG-S6910-3Cswitch supports M2EFAN I-F andprovides fan speedregulation,fanfailurewarning,andfan hot
swapping.

Maintain a minimum clearanceof20cm aroundthe switchfor ventilation.
It requires atleastfive fan modules toworknormally.Fillerpanels needtobe installedin theunoccupiedfanmodule
slots toensure ventilation and heat dissipationand avoid dusts.
The powermoduleandfanmodulewithdifferent ventilation directioncannotbeusedtogether.

The RG-S6910-3Cseriesswitchesadoptthemodule-baseddesign.Compliantwith industrystandards,thedesigndivides
modulesandintegratesmoduleinterfacestoensuretheswitchsystem'sfunctioningandindependenceofvarious function
modules.
The RG-S6910-3C series switches support the following modules: M6900-32CQ (expansion module), RG-PA1200I-F
(powermodule),andM2EFAN I-F (fan module).

When the QSFP28 ports of M6900-32CQis divided into 4x25G mode or 4x10G mode, the port configuration takes
effect based on the port group insteadof an individual port, and four consecutive100G ports form a port group. For
example, if the port hun 1/1 is divided, ports hun 1/1-4 are divided at the same time. In addition, four consecutive
100Gports can bedivided into 8x25G or 8x10G. The dividedports are distributedonodd-numbered QSFP28ports,
and even-numberedQSFP28ports are not available.
Dueto MAC chip limitation,ports 1/1-1/4canonly workin the sameratemodeatthesame time,and ports 3/21-3/24
can onlywork inthe sameratemodeatthe sametime.
The100GEthernetports ofM6900-32CQsupportDAC.QSFP28ports support3mcables.SeeAppendixBfordetails.
1.2.2 M2EFAN I-F
M2EFAN I-F is the fan module which provides a ventilation system for the switch to ensure stabilityand supports speed
adjustment,faultalarm and hot swapping.

2 Preparation before Installation
2.1 SafetyPrecautions
To avoid body injury and device damage,please carefullyread the safety precautions before you install the RG-
S6910-3C.
The following safetyprecautions donot cover all possibledangers.
2.1.1 Installation Safety
Keepthe chassis cleananddust-free.
Do notplacethe device inwalking areas.
Do not wearloose clothes,ornaments oranyotherthings that maybe hookedbythe chassis during theinstallation
andmaintenance.
Turn off allpowersuppliesandunplugall powercords andcables before theinstallationorthedismantling.
Avoid transferringtheequipmentwithoutpackingmaterials.
If stackingis requiredduringtransportation,the numberofstackedlayers shouldnotexceed the numbermarked on
the packagingbox. Do not placethe box upsidedown oronthe side.
After takingout switches forinstallation,switches cannotbestackeddirectly. Each switchshould be separated by
packingpads andplaced rightside up.The numberof stackinglayers shouldnotexceed3 (the stackingheight
cannotexceed 1M). The packing pads needtobe placedin a stablealignment.
2.1.2 Removal Safety
Avoid frequent removals afterthe device is installed.
Turn off allpowersuppliesandunplugall powercords andcables before theinstallationorthedismantling.
When removingthedevice, pay attentionto the balanceandavoid hurtinglegs and feet or strainingtheback.
When the device is being removed, do not hold the power supplyhandle or the fan handle for these parts are not
designed for bearing the entire weight of the device. It will cause damageto the device or to your body if you hold
theseparts when removingthe device.
To reducethe weightofthe chassis duringtheremoval,dismantletheexpansionmodule,fanmoduleandthepower
supplymodulefirst.
Installandoperatethe device in places whereremovingis restricted.
2.1.3 Electric Safety
Observe localregulations andspecifications whenelectricoperations are performed.Relevantoperators mustbe
qualified.
Carefullycheckany potential dangerinthe workingarea, suchas ungroundedpowersupply,unreliable grounding
of the powersupply, and damp/wetground.

Find out the locationof the emergencypowersupplyswitchinthe room beforeinstallation.Firstcut off the power
supplyin the caseofanaccident.
Be sure to makea carefulcheck beforeyou shutdownthe powersupply.
Do notplacethe device ina damplocation.Donot let anyliquidenterthe chassis.
Any nonstandard and inaccurate electrical operation can cause accidents such as fires or electrical attacks, thus
causingsevere,oreven fatal damages tohumanbodies and thedevices.
Direct or indirecttouchthrougha wet objecton high-voltageandmains supplycanbringa fatal danger.
2.1.4 Electrostatic DischargeDamage Precautions
The RG-S6910-3Cdesigning gives agreatconsideration to prevent electrostaticdischarge damageand adopts multiple
measures.Butif the electrostaticexceeds certainlimit,it can stillcausegreatdamagestothe circuitryand the device. In
networks connectedbythe RG-S6910-3C,the majorsources ofelectrostaticinductionareoutdoorhighvoltage
transmission cables,lightening,indoorfloormaterials andthemachinestructure.
Pay attentionto the followingtips:
The device and the floor are wellgrounded.
Take dustpreventionmeasures intheroom.
Maintain anappropriatehumidity.
When the pluggablemodulesoftheswitchare beinginstalled,wearantistaticwriststrap andmakesurethe
antistaticwriststrap is wellgrounded.
Do notusebarehand to directly touchthe components andtheprinted-circuitboard(PCB)whenthe boards are
used.
Use ananti-staticshieldingbagtoproperlystore the board.
Do not let anyclothes toucha circuitboard. An antistaticwriststrap can onlyprevent human staticelectricityfrom
damaging thecircuitboard,but cannot prevent any staticelectricityon clothes.
2.1.5 Laser Safety
Amongthe modules supported bythe RG-S6910-3C,there are a great numberofoptical modules thatareClass I laser
product.
Precautions:
When a fibertransceiverworks,ensure thatthe port has beenconnectedwitha fiber or has been covered by a dust
cap so as to keep out dustand prevent it from burning your eyes.
Do not stare atany fiberport.
Do not stare atany fiberport under anycircumstances,as this maycausepermanentdamagetoyour eyes.
2.2 InstallationSite Requirements
Installthe RG-S6910-3Cindoor.To ensurenormaloperationanda prolongedservicelifeof the device, the installation
sitemustmeetthefollowingrequirements.

2.2.1 Rack Mounting Requirements
Make surethecabinetcomplies withthefollowing conditionsifthe RG-S6910-3Cis installed inthe cabinet:
Installthe switchinan opencabinetas muchas possible.Ifyou installtheswitchinsidea closed cabinet,besure
thatthe cabinethas a goodventilation andheat dissipation system.
Be sure that the cabinetis firm enough to bear the weightof the RG-S6910-3Candits installationaccessories.
Be sure that the dimensionsofthe cabinetis appropriateforinstallationof theRG-S6910-3Cthat can reserve a
certainspace for the front, back, left and rightpanels forheat dissipation.
The cabinetshouldbeproperlygrounded.
2.2.2 Ventilation Requirements
Maintain a minimum clearanceof20cm aroundthe switchfor ventilation. After various cables areconnected,bundlethe
cables orplace them in the cablemanagementbrackettoavoid blockingairinlets. Dustthe device every three months to
avoid blockingtheventilation openings.
2.2.3 Temperature and Humidity Requirements
To ensurethenormaloperationanda prolonged servicelifeof the RG-S6910-3C,maintain an appropriatetemperature
andhumidityin the equipmentroom.Theequipmentroom withtoo highor too low temperatureand humidityfor a long
period of timemaydamage theequipment.
In an environmentwithhighrelative humidity, the insulatingmaterial mayhave badinsulationoreven leak
electricity. And sometimes thematerialsmaysufferfrom mechanicalperformancechange andmetallicparts may
get rusted.
On the other hand,in an environmentwithlowrelative humidity, the insulatingstrip maydry andshrink,and static

The Average refers to the average limitof harmful gas in one week. The Maximum value is the upper limit of the
harmful gas inone week,and maximum valuecan lastfor upto 30minutes everyday.
2.2.5 System Grounding Requirements
A good groundingsystem is thebasis forthestableandreliable operationofthe RG-S6910-3C.It is the key to prevent
lightning stroke andresistinterference.Please carefullycheckthe groundingconditionson the installation site according
to the groundingrequirements,and perform grounding properlyas needed.
Safety Grounding
The device usingAC or HVDC power supplymustbegrounded byusing theyellow/greensafetygroundingcable.
Otherwise,when grounding faulthappens in thehighvoltage circuitinside thedevice, electricshockmayoccur.
The buildinginstallation shallprovideameans for connectionto protective earth, and the device is to be connected
to that means.
Lightning Grounding
The lightningprotectionsystem ofthe facility is anindependentsystem thatconsists ofthelightningrod, down lead
conductorandthe connector to the groundingsystem,whichusuallysharesthepowerreferenceground and
yellow/greensafetycable ground.The lightningdischarge ground is forthe facilityonly, not for the device.

EMC Grounding
The groundrequiredforEMC design includes shielding ground,filterground,noiseandinterferencesuppression,and
level reference.All the above constitutethe comprehensivegroundingrequirements.The groundingresistance shouldbe
less than 1Ω. Thereis one groundingconnectoratthe left bottom of the chassisofRG-S6910-3Cseriesswitches.The
groundingconnectoris pastedwithconspicuouswarning labels.
