It is forbidden to start the drive of the rake before putting the

stones are done as paid repairs.

1. IDENTYFYING THE MACHINE
Data plate, VIN and approval plate are mounted to the rake’s main frame in the place shown in Fig. 1.

NOTE!
It is forbidden to drive the machine on public roads with damaged, illegible or
missing identification plates.
2. INTRODUCTION
❑This operator’s manual is essential for safe and proper use of this rake and should be read before
anyone operates this rake. It should be kept near the rake for future use. If the rake is used by
another operator, it should be in working condition and include this operator’s manual and all other
basic equipment.
❑Operator’s manual is attached to every machine in order that the operator can familiarize himself
with design, working principles, service and adjustment of the rake. The operator should be familiar
with common safety rules and procedures.
❑The rake is manufactured according to international safety rules.
❑Compliance with the safety precautions in this operator’s manual will help to enable safe operation.
❑Please contact your dealer if you have any queries relating to the operation and service of
the rake.

3. PROPER AND INTENDED USE
In-line rake UNO is designed to rake up green forage, dried forage and hay.Machines cooperate
with tractors of 30 HP and 40 HP power. Rake can only be used by personnel, who learned the machine’s
technical specification, dangers which go together with its operation and ways to avoid them.
WARNING:
Use of the rake for purposes other than mentioned herein is forbidden. Different
use than the above mentioned shall be considered as improper and may lead to
revoking of the warranty. The machine should be operated, maintained and
repaired only by personnel who are learned with its detailed specifications and
safety rules and procedures. Willful modifications to the rake may lead to
revoking of the warranty.

3.2. Design and operation

Tiller (1) allows mounting rake on 3-point linkage beam, being each tractor's standard
equipment. Drive from tractor rpm is transmitted onto rotary gear through shaft, located on rake's
linkage (4). Rotor is equipped with number of raking arms (8). Protective guards (12) reduce risk of
letting any unwanted objects through into rotary arms area. Rake has adjustable screen (14) placed on
raking assembly. Raking assembly is moved on trolley (7).

permission.
4. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The following precautions are for your safety. They must be read carefully and
followed by every person who operates or maintains the machine. Failure to follow these safety
precautions could result in serious injury or death to the operator, maintenance person or
bystanders and property damage to the machine and surrounding property.
Safety Signal Words
This manual and the safety labels attached to this equipment utilize signal words that signify safety
hazards with different levels of severity. Below are the words used and the definitions for these
words:
•DANGER indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or
serious injury
•WARNING indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or
serious injury
•CAUTION indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or
moderate injury
•NOTICE is used to address practices not related to physical injury Safety rules and

4.1. General safety rules and regulations
The following descriptions are for your safety: They must therefore be read carefully
and applied every time you use the machine.
❑The machine has been designed for use by one single operator.
❑When using, servicing, repairing, moving or storing the machine, the operator must wear safety
footwear, safety gloves plus ear protection and dusk mask if necessary.
❑During use, the machine may give rise to dust, especially if the soil is dry. You are advised to use a
tractor with a cab fitted with filters in the ventilation system. Failing this, wear a dust mask with
filter to protect your respiratory tract.
❑Front axis of the tractor should be weighted to keep the balance. If need be, use front wheel weights.
❑In order to keep steering conditions, impact on front axis should be at least 20% of the complete
tractor.
❑Be extremely careful whenever using hydraulic lift lever or buttons. Any operation with hydraulic lift
lever should be done from operator’s seat; DO NOT move the lever from outside of a tractor.
❑In case of tractors equipped with EHR, operating with hydraulic lift is done by the buttons mounted
outside the tractor’s cabin. When operating be extremely careful.
❑When switching from raking to transport position, remove the entire PTO shaft or at least one end
of the shaft from the tractor’s PTO so it cannot turn.
❑When attaching the rake to a tractor, the operator should wear protective gloves.
❑DO NOT operate the rake unless all safety guards are in place and operational. In addition, any
damaged protective aprons should be replaced with a new one.
❑Start raking only when tractor’s PTO reaches its normal 1000 rpm. Do not exceed 1050 PTO rpm.
❑No person (except operator) should stand within danger area which is a minimum of 170' from any
operating part, especially when operating near roads and in areas with stones and other debris. Be
certain that children and animals are at a safe distance away from the machine.
IMPORTANT: Maintenance and adjustment should ONLY be done after the following has occurred:
❑tractor’s engine has been stopped and ignition key has been taken out,
❑all rotating parts have come to complete standstill (NOTE: raking tines will rotate for
several minutes after engine is turned off),
❑When in standstill the machine should be protected against unauthorised use with a padlock
mounted on hitch pin (Fig. 22).
❑The bolts and other fasteners should be inspected on regular basis. Operating with damaged or
worn fasteners is not admissible.
❑When operating the rake, please comply with the Resolution of the Minister of Agriculture and Food
Economy of 12-01-1998 on work safety when operating tractors, machines, technical instruments
and devices used in farming Dz. U. nr 12/98 poz. 51.
❑The rake shall never be started, with people or animals near the machine.
❑lways comply with safety decals describing hazards, and warning signs placed on the machine.
❑Prior to starting the tractor make sure that each drive is disconnected while the hydraulics control
levers are in neutral position.
❑Do not let the tractor's engine operate without any supervision. Before leaving the tractor, the engine
shall be disconnected and the key put off from the tractor ignition switch.

❑Driving the rake backwards when operating is forbidden.
❑Never get onto the rake.
❑Never stand between the tractor and the rake, before tractor-mower set is secured against moving
by means of the tractor parking brake.
❑The rake should be stored under roof and in manner that effectively prevents animals and people
from being injured.
❑Rotating spring tines and other rotary elements present a danger to health and life of persons
present nearby the machine. Do not touch any moving machine parts.
❑When operating over a stony field or nearby roads there exists a risk of throwing out stones or other
objects, which may pose a danger for passing-by vehicles on the road or for passers-by. There fore
keep the safe distance.
❑Prior to approaching operation with the machine, make sure that all safety guards are not damaged
and fitted in place. Operating without safety guards is not permitted.
❑Prior to performing any maintenance works set the machine onto a stable ground and protect
against unintentional shifting.
❑When cleaning the machine, use personal protective equipment for health protection.
❑Do not leave agricultural machinery on slopes or other descents without providing protection
against its free runaway.
❑When taking turns pay particular attention and consider weight and dimensions of the machine.
❑In case of a fatal failure, stop the machine's drive, turn the tractor's engine off and take out the
ignition key. Then call for technical service, and if an accident (in this case: road accident) occurs,
respect first aid rules and contact responsible authorities.
❑Before transporting the rake make sure that the support leg is lifted and protected.
❑In the event of any break in the equipment operation, turn off the drive. Shut down the tractor's
engine, take the ignition key off, leave the cabin and make sure there are no unauthorized persons
in the cabin and the door is closed.
❑When the machine is stopped bear in mind that it is necessary to use supports to keep the stability.
❑The operator is not allowed to leave the tractor while driving.
❑Machine should be kept clean, so as to avoid danger of fire.
❑When used in storm, the machine is exposed to lightning.
❑During repair and maintenance work it is mandatory to use personal protective equipment (PPE) in
the form of protective clothing, protective gloves, safety shoes and safety glasses.
4.2. Qualifications of operator
To provide safe machine operation each person being the machine operator must meet the
following requirements:
❑Operator should hold driving license, have ability to drive vehicles safely and know road traffic rules.
❑Operator must be in proper physical condition to be able to operate the machine.
❑Operator must not be under the influence of alcohol, drugs and medicines, which all have influence
on vehicle driving and machine operation.
❑Operator should be familiarized with this manual and follow its provisions.
❑Operator should be familiar with working principles of both the tractor and the machine, and be able
to recognize and avoid hazards resulting from operation of the aggregate.
4.3. Conditions of mounting mower on tractor
❑Prior to the mounting operation, check whether the tractor's and the mower's hitch categories are
compatible and make sure that tractor's hitch load is adequate for the machine aggregated.

❑Prior to mounting the machine, examine technical condition of the mower's hitch assembly and
tractor's 3-point linkage.
❑Use only genuine pins and cotters to mount the mower on a tractor.
❑Once the machine is mounted on tractor check stability and manoeuvrability of the latter. Load on
the front axle should be approx. 20% of the weight of tractor. Otherwise, ballast front of the tractor.
4.4. Transport
The lifting, handling and transporting operations can be very dangerous unless they are carried out
with the utmost caution. Have all persons not involved in the actual work move away from the area
and limit the zone where the operations are to be carried out. Also make sure that the area in which
the operations take place is clear and that there is a sufficient escape route, i.e. a free, safe zone
to which the operators can quickly move if the load should fall.
The safety hooks and ropes used to lift the machine must be of an adequate carrying capacity
To minimize the risk of serious injury or death, do the following:
❑When the machine is converted from the transport position to the work position and vice versa, you
could be pinched or crushed by some of its parts. Take extra care when carrying out these
maneuvers and have all persons keep well clear of the danger zone.
❑Do not change position of the rake until there are no people or animals around (pay particular
attention to children).
❑While transporting the rake, put a warning plate with combined lights and reflectors and warning
triangle on the rake.
❑During transport, always put the rake in its proper and safe transport position. See section 5.3.
❑Before putting the rake in transport position, make sure that the tractor’s PTO is turned off and all
rotating parts have come to a complete stop.
❑Do not drive over 25 km/h (15 mph). Drive slower if road conditions are poor, especially on irregular
surfaces or steep slopes.
❑The behavior of the tractor on the road, such as its turning and braking capacities, are affected by
the implements mounted.
❑When driving on the road after work, check to make sure that the tires and soil working tools are
clean to prevent the road surface from becoming dirty.
4.4.1. Putting machines onto another vehicle for transport
The driver and the carrier are responsible for the rake’s transport safety. Equipment and parts
must be secured during transport. To put the rake onto another vehicle in a safe way, please obey the
following rules.
❑Transport should be done by qualified and specifically trained personnel,
❑Grab the rake by any lifting device only in places indicated by hook sign.
❑For rake lifting, use only lifting devices with hoisting capacity larger than rake’s weight shown in
data plate. This also applies to ropes and chains used for lifting,
❑Do not lift if transport belts, belt suspensions, ropes are damaged. Whenever damage to these
parts occurs, replace with new ones,
❑When mounting slings, chains, handles etc., always set the machine's center of gravity properly,

❑To safely support the machine, use ropes of adequate length so that the angle between them is no
greater than 120°, and the angle between the strand and the vertical is no greater than 60°,
❑Lift the rake with the utmost caution and move it slowly,
❑No one should be within the range of action of the lifting equipment when any transporting
operations are being carried out
❑Collapsible parts should be blocked in transport position,
❑When the rake is on the vehicle’s trailer, the machine should be secured against moving.

4.5. Operating parts
❑Prior to operating the rakes check the rotor and the tine condition.
❑Worn or damaged tines should be replaced immediately with new ones.
4.6. PTO shaft
❑Prior to operating learn instructions given by the shaft's manufacturer found on the shaft.
❑Use only the rake's manufacturer recommended PTO shafts.
❑In order to operate safely use only fit, undamaged telescopic articulated shafts. Damaged
telescopic articulated shaft shall be repaired or replaced with new one.
❑Pay particular attention to PTO shaft’s guards and rake’s and tractor’s spline shaft guards. Never
work with damaged guards.
❑Before operation, check all guards (in tractor, machine and the shaft), if they are in place and are
functional. Any worn or damaged guard must be replaced. Damaged or missing guard of drive shaft
may cause serious accident and even death.
❑Possible inclination of the shaft depends on shape and size of the guard. Before operation check if
guards in any position are not damaged or locked.
❑Always pay attention to the recommended overlap of the PTO shafts in working and transport
positions.
❑Before you start work, you must make sure that the PTO shaft is spinning in the right direction and
that the tractor PTO RPM matches the permissible RPM levels of the machine.

❑When using the power PTO shaft there must be nobody in the danger zone of the rotating telescopic
joint shaft or PTO shaft.
4.7. Hydraulic assembly
❑Caution! Hydraulic assembly is under pressure! Hydraulic oil under pressure may penetrate skin and
cause serious injury. Skin and eyes should be protected in particular. In case of injuries caused by
a liquid under pressure, call a doctor immediately.
❑Hydraulic hoses can be connected to the tractor's hydraulics provided that both the tractor’s and
the rake's hydraulic assemblies are not under pressure. To remove the pressure from the hoses,
start the tractor's hydraulic valves several times with the tractor off.
❑When unmounting the machine from the tractor, set the equipment used aside, deflate the pressure
from hydraulics and turn the tractor's engine off.
❑When inspecting the hydraulic assembly for malfunctions and oil leaks, do not touch any potential
leaks as the assembly is under pressure.
❑Note! Use only hydraulic oil featuring oil purity class 9 - 10 in accordance with NAS 1638.
When using hydraulic hoses:
❑Avoid stretching the hoses when operating.
❑Do not allow hydraulic hoses to get deflected.
❑Do not expose hydraulic hoses to contact with any sharp edges.
❑If damaged or worn, replace the hoses with new ones.
❑Useful life for hydraulic hoses is 5 years from their production date.
4.8. Tires
❑The air pressure in the wheels must be regularly checked and maintained at the appropriate level
recommended by the manufacturer.
❑Repair work on the machine’s tyres and wheels may only be carried out by qualified personnel with
the appropriate tools for this type of work.
❑When carrying out maintenance and repair work on tyres and wheels, ensure that the machine is
properly parked and secured against rolling away (use wedges).
❑Disassembly and assembly of the wheels requires appropriate skills and equipment.
4.9. Residual risk
Despite the fact, that SaMASZ company –the manufacturer of the rake takes the responsibility
for the rakes design and manufacturing, in order to eliminate hazard, certain risk when operating the
machine is unavoidable. When keeping such recommendations as:
❑thorough familiarizing with operator’s manual,
❑no persons remaining on the machine when operating and during drives,
❑no persons remaining within the rake operation range,
❑adjustment, maintenance and lubrication of the machine with engine off,
❑performing repairs of the machine only by skilled persons,
❑operation of the machine by persons, which are familiarized with operator’s manual,
❑in the event of the machine protection against children and unauthorized personnel residual risk
when operating the rake may be limited to necessary minimum.

4.9.1. Danger of catching
This kind of risk occurs when the rake's position is changed, when operating near rotating parts,
operating without safety guards.
When operating, maintenance and regulation works are conducted always wear protective
gloves, footwear and clothing with no loose parts, belts, etc. Always comply with safety decals placed
on the rake.
4.9.2. Danger of wound, abrasion and damage of skin
Present when replacing working parts with sharp edges, cleaning the machine and removal of
any clogging and jams. For any repair and maintenance works always wear safety gloves.
NOTE:
Residual risk results from incorrect behaviour of the machine's operator.
4.9.3. Bans
Bear in mind the following bans when operating the rakes:
❑Do not unblock the rake, make any adjustments or repairs when the mower is operating.
❑Never change the sequence of operation and maintenance works specified in the operator's manual.
❑Never operate the rake when its working condition is poor or has safety guards damaged.
❑Never get your limbs close to rake's rotating parts.
❑During the rake's repair and maintenance works always comply with the descriptions included in
the operator's manual, while conducting them with the tractor drive disconnected.
❑Prior to approaching any works, focus your attention solely on the tasks to do.
❑Never operate the rakes being under influence of alcohol, drugs, or strong medicines.
❑Wear clothing that is not too loose, nor too tight. Too loose clothing elements may be pulled in by
the machine's rotating parts.
❑The rake cannot be operated by children nor handicapped people.
When describing residual risk, the rake shall be considered a machine, which until the moment of
production launching had been designed and manufactured in accordance with top technology level
actual as per the machine manufacture date.
NOTE:
There is possibility of residual risk if not complying with specified instructions
and bans.
When the risk of being exposed to noise cannot be avoided or eliminated by any
group protective means or organization of work, employer (operator) must:
1) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection, if the noise
level in work place exceeds 80 dB.
2) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection and supervise
its proper use, if the noise level in work place reaches or exceeds 85 dB.

4.10. Safety labels and their meaning
Safety labels are critical to safe use of this rake. They must be read, understood and followed. Also,
be sure that:
❑All warning decals are clean and legible
❑All lost or damaged decals are replaced by ordering new decals from your dealer or supplier

5. OPERATION
WARNING:
Before beginning to use this rake, do the following:
- Read manual, especially safety precautions in section 4.
- Make sure you are familiar with all controls and functions.
- Make sure all safety devices are in place and working. Fix or replace if not
working or damaged.
- Replace protective cover if damaged.
5.1. Mounting rake on tractor
WARNING:
- Only hitch and unhitch machine on a flat surface with compact dirt.
- Keep everyone away from area between rake and tractor.
- Be careful near link road zone of tractor's rear power lift. Contains sharp parts.
UNO rake is designed to mount on tractors with 3-point linkage beam (2). Rake's tiller (1) should be
coupled with beam (2) with use of pin (3) and protected with cotter.

5.2. Preparing rake for transport
NOTE!
Switching the machine from working to transport position, and the other way
round can only be done on an even and stable ground. Prior to starting any works
make sure that nearby the machine there are no unauthorized persons exposed
to being crushed.
To prepare rake for transport:
❑Push the swath screen maximally in (if retracted), and then lock it,
❑Lift safety guards up to transport position (vertical) and lock them with a pawl or fixing lock (Fig.
7 and Fig. 8),

When transporting rake transport speed must be adjusted to any unevenness found on the way.
Too high a speed when driving on uneven ground (Fig. 13) may lead to damaging the machine by
bending rotary gear's vertical axis.

WARNING!
Driving speed should be adjusted to current road conditions. Too high
a transport speed when driving on uneven ground poses risk of bending gear's
vertical axis.
5.3. Preparing rake for transport on public roads
WARNING:
Legal requirements for transport on public roads may differ from state to state.
Check your location's requirements and comply.
To comply with safety precautions concerning transport on the public roads the rake should be
equipped with the following devices:
❑portable warning light plates to be mounted on both sides of rake’s top guard in their holders.
The panel consists of warning plate with combined lamp mounted (parking, stop lights and
driving direction) and with red reflectors facing the rear and white light on the front.
When transporting on public roads respect provisions valid in the country of use.
5.4. Mounting and shortening PTO shaft (WPT)
The machine is delivered with a separate instruction manual for PTO shafts.
Prior to commencing operation, examine and adjust length of PTO shaft, which is designed to
mount machine on tractor. In some cases it is possible, that the shaft is too long and therefore needs
to be shortened, so that there is adequate tolerance for the shortest possible distance between tractor’s
shaft Oand machine’s shaft P.
Shaft length should be adjusted individually for tractor, on which the machine is mounted.
