Fire Safety
Installation Instructions
Model MKB-1
Annunciator/Keypad Module
The SIEMENS Model MKB-1 Annunciator
communicates with the MMB-1 Main Control
Board through the System network link. The
MKB-1 provides the M L with its primary control
and annunciation.
OPERATION
The MKB-1 has an 80 character, backlit LCD
alphanumeric display that continuously updates
information about the System status and user
defined device messages (See Figure 1). If there
are multiple alarms, and/or troubles, including
supervisories and security conditions, the MKB-1
displays the highest priority event that occurred.
The user can see additional alarm and trouble
data by pressing the NE T key. Press the HOLD
key at any time to stop the display from scrolling.
There are switches for acknowledging fire alarms
(ALARM ACK), silencing audibles (AUD SIL),
acknowledging supervisories (SUPV ACK),
System troubles (TRBL ACK), and security
conditions (SEC ACK). There is also a separate
key for resetting the Control Panel (RESET).
The 10 digit numeric keypad allows entry of the
three levels of user passwords. It also performs
specific menu driven operations as well as
programming and maintenance functions.
Another series of switches located on the MKB-1
allows the user access to the M L Control menu.
There are also System status indicator LEDs.
The ALARM and TROUBLE LEDs function even
if the main processor fails (See Figure 1).
INSTALLATION
Always remove all ower before installation.
Unpack the MKB-1. Inspect the module for such
things as integrated circuits (ICs) not firmly
seated in their sockets, bent IC pins, connectors
not properly installed, dirt, and packing material
on the board.
Setting the Network Address
(See Figure 2)
1 . Before installing the MKB-1 panel, set the
network address on S1, the switch on the
ANN-1 board located on the back of the
MKB-1. Use dipswitches SW1 and SW2 on
switch Sl to set the network address of the
MKB-1.
2. The MKB-1 module address is always set
within network addresses 248 through 251.
Set the individual switches as follows:
NOTE: Switches S1-SW3 and S1-SW4 are for
future use. The use of switch S1-SW5 is
described below.

3. One su ervised MKB-1 must be installed at
network address 251. Other su ervised
MKBs may be at the other addresses.

To Select Supervision
Use Switch S1-SW5 on the ANN-1 to select or
deselect supervision of the MKB-1. If your ANN-1
has a switch with position 1 indicated on the
lefthand side, ignore the printing on the switch.
SW1 on S1 is at the extreme right-hand side of
S1, regardless of any other marking.
To set for su ervision:
S1-SW5 = Closed (ON)
To set for non-su ervision:
S1-SW5 = O en (OFF)
This supervision is independent of the network
address.
Mechanical Installation
The installation kit for the MKB-1 includes:
two nuts
two 2 inch standoffs
1 . Mount the MKB-1 inside the main M L
enclosure by placing the four holes in the
mounting bracket over the four studs provided
in the enclosure. These studs are placed two
above and two below the MMB-1 board (See
Figure 2).
When the MKB-1 is in position, it straddles the
middle of the MMB-1, leaving only the field
wiring terminals on the MMB-1 exposed.
2. Fasten the MKB-1 bracket in the enclosure
using the two 2 inch standoffs provided on top
and the two nuts provided at the bottom.
3. Once the MKB-1 is mounted to the enclosure,
connect the cable assembly on the back of
the MKB-1 to connector P8 on the MMB-1.
