Introduction 1
1.1 Purpose of this document
These compact operating instructions are a brief summary of important features, functions and
safety instructions, and contains all information required for safe use of the device. These are
instructions on mounting, connecting, commissioning, operation, servicing, dismantling and
decommissioning of the device.
The compact operating instructions are intended for quali󹪝ed personnel who have been
instructed in all the work on the device in hazardous areas and possible dangers resulting from
improper behavior and have been taught.
It is your responsibility to read the compact operating instructions thoroughly and understand
them before beginning any work. To guarantee correct handling, you should become
acquainted with the principle of operation of the gas chromatograph.
The compact operating instructions belong to the device. Keep them in the direct vicinity of the
device.
To achieve optimum usage of the device also read the detailed version of the operating
instructions, see "References (Page 107)".

1.3 Purpose
The device is designed for the concentration analysis of gases in gas mixtures. Depending on the
installed analyzer module, di󹪜erent gases can be examined.
Use the device only for measuring/analysis of gas concentrations in gas mixtures according to
the information in section "Technical speci󹪝cations (Page 83)".

It is not permissible to use this device as a gas warning unit.

Aggregate state of examined substances
The system can only be used for gaseous samples.

This device meets the requirements of NAMUR Recommendation 53.

This equipment of Class A Group 1 is intended solely for use in industrial areas.

1.4 Field of application
These compact operating instructions describe SIPROCESS GA700 devices approved for
operation in hazardous areas. They refer to the rack-mounted and wall-mounted devices with
installed analyzer modules that are used depending on the measuring task and local conditions.
The following analyzer modules are available for explosion-proof devices:
• Standard analyzer modules OXYMAT 7, ULTRAMAT 7 and CALOMAT 7 for rack-mounted and
wall-mounted devices. Up to two analyzer modules possible per basic device.
• High-temperature analyzer modules OXYMAT 7 and ULTRAMAT 7 only for wall-mounted
devices. Only one analyzer module possible per wall-mounted device.

1.6 Quali󹪝ed personnel for applications in hazardous areas
Persons who install, connect, commission, operate, service, maintain and dismantle the device
in a hazardous area must have the following speci󹪝c quali󹪝cations:
• They are authorized, trained or instructed in operating and maintaining devices and systems
according to the safety regulations for electrical circuits, high pressures and aggressive as
well as hazardous media.
• They are authorized and trained or instructed in carrying out work on electrical circuits for
hazardous systems.
• They are trained or instructed in maintenance and use of appropriate safety equipment
according to the pertinent safety regulations.
1.7 Delivery
WARNING
Damaged or incomplete device
Danger of explosion in hazardous areas
The use of damaged or incomplete devices can lead to an explosion.
• Do not use damaged or incomplete devices.
Checking delivery
1. Check the packaging and the device for visible damage caused by inappropriate handling
during shipping.
2. Report any claims for damages immediately to the shipping company.
3. Retain the damaged parts for clari󹪝cation.

4. Check the scope of delivery for correctness and completeness on the basis of the delivery
note. Compare the serial numbers on the delivery note with the serial numbers on the basic
device or on the modules.
5. Check whether the package includes the following items:

– This printed copy of the Compact Operating Instructions

Checking expanded product packages for Ex devices
The following items are included in the delivery of devices in the explosion-proof design:
• IEC connector
• Guard bracket for the IEC connector
• Additionally for rack-mounted device: Ethernet strain relief
1.8 Transportation and storage
To ensure su󹪟cient protection during transport and storage, observe the following:
• Keep the original packaging for subsequent transportation.
• Devices/replacement parts should be returned in their original packaging.
• If the original packaging is no longer available, please ensure that all shipments are
su󹪟ciently protected during transport by the replacement packaging. The manufacturer
accepts no liability for additional costs resulting from damage during transportation.
• Store the device in a dry place, vibration-free and horizontal.
Note
Insu󹪟cient protection during storage
The packaging only provides limited protection against moisture and in󹪝ltration.
• Provide additional packaging as necessary.

2.1 Prerequisites for safe use
In terms of safety, this device left the factory in perfect condition. In order to maintain this status
and to ensure safe operation of the device, observe these compact operating instructions and
all the information relevant to safety.
Note
It is not permissible to use the GA700 analyzer as a gas warning unit.
Observe the information and symbols on the device. Do not remove any information or symbols
from the device. Always keep the information and symbols in a completely legible state and
renew them, if required.

Explosion hazard
Danger to personnel, system and the environment can result from modi󹪝cations and repairs to
the device carried out by the customer, especially in hazardous areas.
•Modi󹪝cations to or repairs of the explosion-protected device as well as retro󹪝tting it with
further analyzer modules should be carried out within the framework of the available
documentation. It must be ensured that the person carrying out the work has understood
the necessary technical instructions.
• Following maintenance or the retro󹪝tting of parts associated with explosion protection, the
device may only be put into operation when it has been ensured that the device has the
essential features and meets the requirements for explosion protection.

Explosion hazard
Air in the gas path can cause an explosion during the introduction of 󹪞ammable gas mixtures
into the OXYMAT 7.
• Prior to the introduction of 󹪞ammable sample gas mixtures, 󹪞ush the gas path in the
analyzer and the gas line with inert gas when 󹪞ammable gas mixtures are introduced, as
follows:
– into the rack unit for any pressure
– into the wall-mounted device from a pressure above 1100 hPa

Vibrations at the installation location
Explosion hazard
For ignition protection type Ex ec and Ex py, vibrations of more than 5 m/s² can cause an
explosion.
• Make sure that the device is installed in a low-vibration location.

Pollution degree class when using the ignition protection type Ex e
When using the ignition protection type Ex e, pollution degree 2 must be complied with inside
the device (in accordance with IEC 60664-1).

Electrostatic discharge
NOTICE
Electrostatic Sensitive Devices (ESD)
Electronic modules contain components that can be destroyed by electrostatic discharge.
These components can easily be destroyed or damaged by electrostatic discharge if not
handled properly.
To avoid damage to property, follow the instructions below .
• Discharge your body electrostatically immediately before touching an electronic module.
Touch a conductive object, for example a bare metal part of a switch cabinet or the water
pipe.
• Hold modules only by their plastic enclosure.
• Do not bring electronic modules into contact with electrical insulating material, e.g. plastic
󹪝lm, plastic parts, insulating table pads or clothing made of synthetic 󹪝bers.
• Place the modules on conductive surfaces only.
• Store and transport electronic modules and components only in ESD-safe conductive
packaging, e.g. metallized plastic containers or metal containers. Leave the module in the
packaging until you install it.
The insulating parts of the high-temperature version of the ULTRAMAT 7 and the keyboard can
be electrostatically charged.
When installing the components, observe the measures against electrostatic charging (ESD
Guidelines) and the standard IEC 60079-0 7.4.2 e).

2.4 General directives for explosion protection
2.4.1 Internal explosion protection
Internal explosion protection refers to the sample gas path (containment system "CS") in the
analyzer and to the ignition protection of the process gas. A di󹪜erentiation must be made
between the following cases:

dispensable.
Occasionally explosive
gas mixtures
The introduction of an occasionally explosive gas mixture into the wall-mounted device is permis‐
sible only with the ignition protection type Ex px/py. We recommend an automatic purging unit in
accordance with Ex px.
When introducing a combustible or occasionally explosive gas mixture in OXYMAT 7 into the wall-
mounted device, each inlet/outlet for sample gas and reference gas must be equipped with a 󹪞ame
arrestor. The installed 󹪞ame arresters have to ful󹪝l the safety-speci󹪝c requirements of this ignitable
gas mixture.
Introducing an occasionally explosive gas mixture in OXYMAT 7 into the rack-mounted device is not
permissible.

A case-by-case assessment is required for these combustible gas mixtures.
2.4.2 External explosion protection
The external explosion protection serves to prevent penetration of explosive gas mixtures (gas
vapors) into the enclosure or ignition on the surfaces.
2.4.2.1 Safety measures for all types of protection
The exhaust lines for the sample gas and reference gas must terminate outside the hazardous
area at a harmless position.
The sample gas exhaust line can also be returned to the sampling point.
OXYMAT 7: When conducting combustible or non-combustible sample gases into the hazardous
area, both the sample gas inlet and outlet must be provided with a 󹪞ame arrester.
The maximum permissible sample gas pressure in the analyzer depends on the type of
connected gas. Make sure that no higher absolute sample gas pressures occur than speci󹪝ed in

the technical data of the respective device version. The exact speci󹪝cations of the sample gas
inlet conditions can be found in the section "Technical speci󹪝cations for operation in hazardous
areas (Page 96)".
Check the tightness of the containment system particularly prior to the introduction of
󹪞ammable sample gases after all installation and maintenance work.
2.4.2.2 Type of protection "Ex p"
For gas/air mixtures above the LEL, fault tolerance of the containment system is not guaranteed
in the sense of EN IEC 60079-2 and EN IEC 60079-14, for the sample gas can penetrate the
pressurized enclosure via leakages (e.g. O-rings). However, the release of sample gas can be
assessed as limited. The maximum quantity released is guaranteed by the quality assurance
measures of the manufacturer when the analyzer is delivered.
The maximum release amount of sample gas is:

In order to minimize or avoid the accumulation of gases in the enclosure, Ex p devices are purged
continuously with a ignition shield gas (purging gas). Inert gas or air is chosen as the purging gas.
During the pre-purging phase, before the device is switched on, the purging gas 󹪞ows through
the enclosure in order to remove any combustible gases that may be present. During the
operating phase the purging gas continues to be fed into the enclosure. This dilutes any sample
gas released through leaks so that an ignitable gas mixture cannot arise.

WARNING
Explosion hazard
The following applies for simpli󹪝ed pressurized devices with type of protection Ex pz for use in
hazardous Zone 2 and Zone 22:
• Never insert combustible gas/air mixtures whose composition lies above the LEL even
occasionally!
