General Hazard Information
No accident-prevention program can be successful without the wholehearted cooperation of
the person who is directly responsible for the operation of the equipment.
A large number of accidents can be prevented only by the operator anticipating the result
before the accident is caused and doing something about it. No power-driven equipment,
whether it be transportation or processing, whether it be on the highway, in the field, or in
the industrial plant, can be safer than the person who is at the controls. If accidents are
to be prevented--and they can be prevented--it will be done by the operators who accept
the full measure of their responsibility.
It is true that the designer, the manufacturer, and the safety engineer can help; and they will
help, but their combined efforts can be wiped out by a single careless act of the operator.
It is said that, “the best kind of a safety device is a careful operator.” We, at Unverferth

Following Safety Instructions
• Read and understand this operator’s manual before operating.
• Allmachineryshouldbeoperatedonlybytrainedandauthorizedpersonnel.
• Topreventmachinedamage,useonlyattachmentsandservicepartsapprovedbythemanufac-
turer.
• Alwaysshuttractorengineoffandremovekeybeforeservicing.
• Avoidpersonalattiresuchasloosettingclothing,shoestrings,drawstrings,pantscuffs,longhair,
etc., that may become entangled in moving parts.
• Donotallowanyonetorideontheimplement.Makesureeveryoneisclearbefore
operating machine or towing vehicle.
• Neverattempttooperateimplementunlessyouareinthedriver’sseat.
• Never enter a cart containing grain. Flowing grain traps and suffocates victims in
seconds.

• Donotstandbetweentowingvehicleandimplementduringhitching.
• Alwaysmakecertaineveryoneandeverythingisclearofthemachinebeforebeginning
operation.
• Verifythatallsafetyshieldsareinplaceandproperlysecured.
• Ensurethatallapplicablesafetydecalsareinstalledandlegible.
• Whenworkingaroundtheimplement,becarefulnottobecutbysharpedges.
• Securedrawbarpinwithsafetylatchandlocktractordrawbarinfixedposition.

Before Servicing
• Avoid working under an implement; however, if it becomes absolutely unavoidable,
make sure the implement is safely blocked.
• Ensurethatallapplicablesafetydecalsareinstalledandlegible.
• Whenworkingaroundtheimplement,becarefulnottobecutbysharpedges.
• Topreventpersonalinjuryordeath,alwaysensurethattherearepeoplewhoremain
outside the cart to assist the person working inside, and that all safe workplace prac-
ticesarefollowed.Thereis restrictedmobilityandlimitedexitpathswhenworking
inside the implement.
• Securedrawbarpinwithsafetylockandlocktractordrawbarinxedposition.
• Explosiveseparationofatireandrimcancauseseriousinjuryordeath.Onlyproperly
trained personnel should attempt to service a tire and wheel assembly.
• Addsufficientballasttotractortomaintainsteeringandbrakingcontrolatalltimes.Donotexceed
tractor’s lift capacity or ballast capacity.

Before Transporting
• Securetransportchainstotowingvehiclebeforetransporting.DONOTtransportwithoutchains.
• Installtransportlocksbeforetransporting.
• Checkforproperfunctionofallavailabletransportlights.Makesurethatallreectorsareclean
andinplaceonmachine.MakesuretheSMVemblemandSISdecalsarevisibletoapproaching
traffic.
• Thisimplementmaynotbeequippedwithbrakes.Ensurethatthetowingvehiclehasadequate
weight and braking capacity to tow this unit.
During Transport
• Complywithalllawsgoverninghighwaysafetywhenmovingmachinery.
• Usetransportlightsasrequiredbyalllawstoadequatelywarnoperatorsofothervehicles.
• Usegoodjudgmentwhentransportingequipmentonhighways.Regulatespeedtoroadcondi-
tions and maintain complete control.
• Maximumtransportspeedofthisimplementshouldneverexceed20m.p.h.asindicatedonthe
machine.Maximumtransportspeedofanycombinationofimplementsmustnotexceedthelow-
estspeciedspeedoftheimplementsincombination.Donotexceed10m.p.h.duringoff-high-
way travel.
• Slowdownbeforemakingsharpturnstoavoidtipping.Driveslowlyoverroughgroundandside
slopes.
• Donottransportgraincartonroadswhileloaded.
• Itisprobablethatthisimplementistaller,widerandlongerthanthetowingvehicle.Becomeaware
ofandavoidallobstaclesandhazardsinthetravelpathoftheequipment,suchaspowerlines,
ditches, etc.

Driveline Safety
• Donotallowchildrennearequipmentthatisrunningorengaged.
• Donotexceed1000rpmPTOspeed.
• DisengagethePTO,stopthetractorengine,andremovekeyfromignitionbeforemakinginspec-
tions, or performing maintenance and repairs.
• Inspect the driveline, quick disconnect, overload shear-bolt limiter or clutch, and shielding of-
ten. Repair immediately. Use replacement parts and attaching hardware equivalent to the original
equipment.Onlyalterationsdescribedinthismanualforoveralllength adjustment areallowed.
Any other alteration is prohibited.
• Avoidexcessivelylonghardwareorexposedandprotrudingpartswhichcansnagandcauseen-
tanglement.
• LubricatethedrivelineasrecommendedintheMAINTENANCEsection.
• Keephoses,wiring,ropes,etc.fromdanglingtooclosetothedriveline.
• Installdrivelineandshieldsaccordingtorecommendedlengthsandattachingmethodswithrec-
ommended hardware. The driveline shield should rotate independently a full rotation and tele-
scope freely. The retaining chain must be secured to the implement safety shield.
• AdjustdrawbartoheightrecommendedinOPERATIONsection.
• Usecautionwhenturningtoavoidcontactbetweentractortiresanddriveline.
• Checkthelengthofthetelescopingmemberstoinsurethedrivelinewillnotbottomoutorsepa-
rate when turning and/or going over rough terrain.
• ProperextendedandcollapsedlengthsofthetelescopingPTOshaftmustbeverifiedbeforefirst
operationwitheachandeverytractor.IftheextendedlengthofthePTOshaftisinsufficient,itmay
become uncoupled or bottom out when turning and/or going over rough terrain which will cause
seriousinjuryordeathfromcontactwithuncontrolledflailingofPTOshaftassemblycomponents.

Pressurized Oil
• Relievepressurebeforedisconnectinghydrauliclinesfromtractor,looseninganyhydraulicttings
or servicing hydraulic system. See hydraulic power unit manual for procedure to relieve pressure.
• High-pressureuidscanpenetratetheskinandcauseseriousinjuryordeath.Usea
pieceof cardboardor woodto detectleaks ofhydraulic uidunder pressure. Seek
medicaltreatmentimmediatelyifinjuredbyhigh-pressureuids.
• Hydraulicsystemmustbepurgedofairbeforeoperatingtopreventseriousinjuryordeath.
• Donotbendorstrikehigh-pressurelines.Donotinstallbentordamagedtubesorhoses.
• Repairalloilleaks.Leakscancauseres,personalinjury,andenvironmentaldamage.
• Routehosesandlinescarefullytopreventprematurefailureduetokinkingandrubbingagainst
other parts. Make sure that all clamps, guards and shields are installed correctly.
• Checkhydraulichosesandtubescarefully.Replacecomponentsasnecessaryifanyofthefol-
lowing conditions are found:
-Endfittingsdamaged,displaced,orleaking.
-Outercoveringchafedorcutandwirereinforcingexposed.
-Outercoveringballooninglocally.
-Evidenceofkinkingorcrushingoftheflexiblepartofahose.
- Armoring embedded in the outer cover.

After the cart has been completely assembled, use the following checklist and inspect the
cart. Check off each item as it is found satisfactory or after proper adjustment is made.
o TorquewheelnutsandchecktirepressureasspeciedinMAINTENANCEsection.
o Axlesareadjustedfromshippingpositiontodesiredoperatingposition.(Ifapplicable)
o Tiresareinatedtospeciedairpressure.(Ifapplicable)
o Allgreasettingshavebeenlubricatedandgearboxoillevelchecked.
oCheck cleanout door assembly play or movement. See maintenance section for adjustment pro-
cedure.
oCheck to be sure all safety decals are correctly located and legible. Replace if damaged.
o Checktobesureallreectivedecalsarecorrectlylocated.
o ChecktobesureSMVdecalshippinglmisremovedandSISdecalsarecleanandvisible.
oCheck to be sure transport lights are working properly.
o CheckDrivelineAssemblyphasing.See“AugerDrivelineAssembly”inOPERATIONsection.
o CheckPTO.See“VerifyTelescopingPTOShaftLength”inMAINTENANCEsection.
oCheck to be sure screens over auger are in place and properly secured.
