1. Set up the operation patterns
Four commonly-used operation patterns are
pre-installed to the machine at the time of
factory shipment.
Before starting the operation, please set up the
suitable operation patterns for your application.
Otherwise, you cannot operate the machine in
the way other than the pre-installed operation
patterns.
You can set the operation patterns according to
the on-screen display of the control unit. Please
refer to this manual for the detail.
2. Seal test and optimum seal condition
There are many variations of package materials
and contents that the customers use.
Please decide the optimum seal conditions
including heating temperature, time, cooling
temperature, as well as the vacuum time (level)
according to your needs after properly
performing the seal tests.
Please refer to the following table. It shows the
temperature of dissolution for each kind of
film. Please note that this value will be greatly
affected by the environment, thickness of
package material and other conditions.

Thank you for your purchasing of LOS-NT/NTW series sealer
LOS-NT/NTW series is a nozzle type vacuum/ gas-flushing sealer controlled by the microcomputer, which makes
it possible to set up the various operation patterns that the customers require.
Thanks to this options, there are quite a few points that we would like our customers to understand before actually
using the sealer.
To make the setting of the control unit easier, we also have the special “ONPUL” manual, which explains how to
set each operation patterns with the control unit. Please refer to it as well before use.


Please read all of the safety and operating instructions before operating this machine. Periodic
maintenance and proper operation are necessary to ensure safety when using this impulse sealer.
Keep this manual on hand when operating the sealer.
Set the heating temperature according to the material and thickness of the film.
As a result of research to further improve the LOS-NT/NTW , some details in the operating
instructions may differ from your actual machine. For operating problems or product
information, please contact your local dealer or Van der Stahl Scientific.
Before using, always verify the voltage specification of your particular unit and operate it at the
correct voltages. Please note the following.
1 The voltage specification of your unit is listed on the label which displays the serial
number.
This label can be found on the machine body.
2 Please confirm the plug configuration on your specific unit.
The explanations and illustrations in this operator's manual utilize the plug configurations
most common in Japan.


Warning In an emergency, unplug the power cord
immediately
This sealer incorporates a number of safety devices and is carefully
designed to prevent fires or other malfunctions.
However, should all of safety devices fail simultaneously, there is a
possibility of fluoro glass sheet catching fire due to a failure of the
heating circuit's tripping mechanism that results in the heating element
overheating. Should smoke or fire appear from the fluoro glass sheet,
immediately release the table or turn OFF the power.
Warning Confirm proper electric power source
Insert the electric power plug fully into the wall outlet.
Make sure the power source has the specified voltage and electric
power as explained in the specification. DO NOT use an extension
cord, as the machine may malfunction due to voltage drop or may result
in fire. Machine will malfunction if connected to anything other than
the specified voltage.
Warning Do not insert any metal object into the sealing area
Please do not place any metal objects into the sealing area during
operation. This could cause electrocution.
Warning When replacing routine parts, unplug the power
plug
Maintenance of the machine is important. Parts should be placed in
accordance with the operating instructions, There is a risk of danger if
the parts are not replaced properly. Before replacing parts, unplug the
machine from the power source and replace parts referring to “9
Replacing the routine maintenance parts” thoroughly.
Warning Do not modify the machine
Modification of the LOS-NT/NTW series or the use of unspecified
parts may not only lead to damage of the machine, but there is also a
risk of danger to the operator. Please do not tamper with the machine.
Accidents or damage caused by modification by the customer is the
sole responsibility of the customer.
Warning Do not use parts other than those specified
When replacing parts, always use only specified parts sold through
Van der Stahl Scientific. We are not responsible for malfunctions
caused by the use of unspecified parts.


3 Operating precautions

Warning If the circuit breaker automatically turns to the OFF
position
Trying to use the sealer when the circuit breaker automatically turns to
the OFF position may cause electrocution. Do not operate the machine
until the cause of the shut down is ascertained and the problem has been
addressed.
Warning Do not use in the following places
Do not operate machine in the following places since there is a danger
of malfunction:
1Dusty locations
2Locations not within normal temperatures
3Location with high humidity
* NTW series utilizes an ejector method which is suitable for the
watery or powdery material. However, machine may be damaged or
electric shock may occur under the conditions indicated above.
Caution Do not place hands in the sealing section
1With the prolonged use, the sealing area will retain heat and
become hot. If you place your fingers in this area, there is a
possibility of burns.
2Do not place hands between the seal jaws (pressure lever and
seal frame).
Caution Read the operating instructions carefully and use
machine properly
Read the operating instructions carefully and operate sealer correctly.
Accidents or damage caused by misuse of the machine not in
accordance with the operating instructions "8 Proper use of the sealer"
are the sole responsibility of the customer.
Caution Confirm the operating pattern
Do not select the "vacuum by gauge" for packaging watery or powdery
materials.
It may cause clogging up in vacuum gauge piping and devices may be
badly influenced.
ƔHeating temperature should be set at a minimum
Set sealer so that an acceptable seal is completed at the lowest heating
temperature. Excessively high heating temperatures will damage the
fluoro glass sheet, glass tape and other consumables, as well as result in
heating element breakage. This will lead to decreased work productivity
and unnecessary power consumption.


For smooth operation

ƔSet the cooling temperature depending on the film
Cooling process is important when using an impulse sealer. After the
film is heated, the film must cool with the frame and pressure lever in
the closed position. Setting the cooling temperature excessively low
will decrease the work productivity. Set the cooling temperature that is
suitable for each film.
ƔIf there is a malfunction in the temperature sensor
The temperature sensor is designed to monitor and control heating
temperature by directly measuring the heater temperature. Therefore,
the machine will not operate when the sensor tip is not positioned
correctly or the sensor is disconnected.
When replacing the consumable parts such as heating element or the
temperature sensor, please be sure to position the temperature sensor
correctly.
ƔDust in the sealing area
Dust will prevent attainment of a smooth seal. It could also cause
damage to heating element and/or other routine maintenance parts.
Before using the machine, clean the sealing area.
ƔWhen fluoro glass sheet, silicone rubber becomes
damaged
The fluoro glass sheet, silicone rubber will start to wear with use. Once
they are damaged, it will be difficult to achieve smooth and strong
seals. Thoroughly read how to replace the parts and be careful when
doing so.
ƔLOS-NT/NTW series are impulse sealer
Van der Stahl Scientific sealers utilize an impulse heating system,
meaning that the heater section does not become hot simply because
the power has been turned on.
It is programmed so that the heating element is heated only during the
heating cycle, after a sensor switch and micro processor have been
activated.
Please note, however, the sealing section may become hot after
prolonged operation.
ƔRun test trials first before beginning operation
Achieving a superior seal with an impulse sealer is determined by
heating / cooling. Depending on the type of film being used and the
contents of the bag, heating / cooling conditions may drastically differ.
Find the optimum sealing conditions by conducting seal tests before
proceeding.


Other safeguards

The LOS-NT/NTW series is installed with the I-type heating element,
which is made of material whose thermal expansion is minimal.
1Because the I-type heating element expands less during heating
compared to conventional heating elements, they are less likely
to break, such as in the middle of the heating element.
2The I-type heating element may gradually turn black in color
after repeated heating, but this will not have an effect on its use.
3The I-type heating element may show some rusting after
prolonged storage, but this will not have an effect on its use.
4The connecting ends of the I-type heating element may tarnish or
show discoloration depending on the environment, but this will
not have an effect on its use.
When you order the spare heating element, please make sure to order
the “I-type” heating element referring to the parts numbers listed in
“19 Spare parts list.”
Please note that the machines manufactured before March, 2013 are
NOT installed with the I-type heating element.
You can identify the types of heating element from the terminal colors.
The I-type heating element has gold-colored terminals, while all the
other FUJIIMPULSE’s heating element has the silver-colored
terminals.
ƔSticker
The sticker of I-type heating element is adhered to the upper right
position of the seal cover of the machine for your easy identification of
heating element material. When replacing the heating element, please
make sure that the same sticker is adhered to the box of spare heating
element.


TIPS For LOS-1500-NT/NTW series, the heating element’s
terminal color is gold for both I-type heating element and
the conventional heating element. Please be careful not to
mix the different type heating elements.
Caution For this machine, please make sure to use the I-type
heating element; otherwise, the machine cannot control
the heating temperature properly.

LOS-NT/NTW series is installed with a nozzle, which
moves back and forth, as well as the sponge rubbers at
the upper and lower seal jaws to clamp the nozzle. After
vacuuming, the nozzle in the front position moves
backward and the sealing operation starts at the same
time.
When the gas-flushing operation is selected, the gas-
flushing starts after vacuuming. Vacuuming and gas-
flushing will be repeated at the set times, and then the
sealing operation starts.
Sealing angle can be adjusted from horizontal to
vertical position at any position by turning the knob
located on the right side of machine. The head height
can be adjusted as well easily by pushing up/down
buttons on the side of the machine.
Please refer to “7-7 Adjusting the sealing height” and
“7-8 Adjusting the sealing angle” for the detail.
※NT series is suitable for packaging that requires
vacuuming of up to -80kPa.
※For the NTW series, vacuuming is conducted
through the use of an ejector, powered by the
compressed air. It is effective for vacuum-
packaging liquid and powder contents.
Vacuuming speed is 3 or 4 times faster than that
of the vacuum pump type.
1The impulse sealer is a machine that sends strong electric current quickly to the thin ribbon heater, which
presses against the film and instantly heat-seals the package. Though this machine yields superior quality
sealing, it is not compatible with films thicker than that indicated in the diagram below, sponge-like sheets,
and materials that are not able to withstand high heat. In addition according to difference of film thickness
and martial, the heating temperature is different. Please verify the optimum sealing conditions before
operation.
2Film thickness limits for LOS-NT/NTW series are described below.
The machine cannot seal films that are thicker than that indicated.

Control unit

Once work area is selected, lock the casters (4 pcs.) in
the ON position.
Make sure the electrical outlet has adequate current
carrying capacity as described in “11 Specification.”
Insert the electric power plug fully into the wall outlet.


7 Preparation
7-1 Secure the work place
7-2 Plugging in the electrical power

Warning Do not use the machine in a location
where it could tip over or where it is
unstable. The machine may suffer
damages if it falls over. There is also
possibility of injuries if the machine
accidentally shifts. Always place the
machine on a flat, horizontal surface.
Warning Do not use on a wet surfaces or in damp
areas. This can cause the machine to
malfunction and short circuit.
Warning The power consumption varies depending
on the model types. Always connect the
power plug directly into the power outlet
whose capacity meets the machine’s
power consumption. There is a danger of
fire if the electrical power source does not
meet proper specifications.
Warning When replacing the standard plug installed
to the machine to another one, please
make sure the wire is properly connected
as shown in the illustration. If the ground
wire (green) is not connected to the correct
terminal, a short circuit on the power
source side or an electric leakage will be
caused.

Foot switch is included in the accessories. Inert it to the
socket for the foot switch on the side of the machine.
Tighten the collar to fix the foot switch.
(The air compressor is not included in this machine.
Please prepare for the air compressor by yourself.)

Use flexible tube or air hose.
Air Cock
After connecting tube or air hose to the air connector,
open the air cock and adjust the air pressure.
After the operation, please make sure to close the cock.
Adjust the Air Pressure
Pull up the air pressure adjustment knob and turn it
clockwise to increase the air pressure. Push the knob at
the optimum position to set the air pressure, and lock it
by fitting into the grooves.

7-4 Set up an air source
Attention With the auto drain specification, the drain
will be exhausted all the time while the air
supply is stopped.
Caution Insert the air tube or hose fully to the air
regulator connector, and fix it using the hose
band.
A pressure lever opens when the air is
supplied. Keep clear of the lever.

Turn the circuit breaker on before adjusting the sealing

Push the power button on the control panel to turn ON
the machine power.
The height of the head of the sealer can be adjusted
between 800 to 1370mm when the bag is set vertically
to the head using the UP/DOWN buttons on the side of
the machine.

Move the nozzle stroke adjustment collar located on the
upper part of the nozzle driving cylinder. Move it up or
down to adjust the nozzle stroke, how deep the nozzle
comes inside the pouch.
[Nozzle stroke: 0 ~240mm]
Turn the adjuster knob on the right side of the machine
while supporting the sealer head with your hand. The
head will move to the vertical direction by turning it
clockwise, while turning counterclockwise will move to
the horizontal direction.
The sealing section can be variably
adjusted between 0 and 90 degrees


Caution Before adjustment, select the "SEALING
ONLY" mode to make the nozzle to be in the
back position.
Attention To make the vacuuming operation easier,
sealing height, sealing angle, and nozzle
position are the important parameters.
These parameters are greatly affected by
the pouch size and packaging contents.
Make final adjustment as you actually
operate the machine and perform some
vacuuming tests.
Caution Please do not move
"X5" (forward
confirmation) and "X4"
(backward

switch since they are
fixed into place.

wrench (5mm) included in accessories
set.
Move the collar up or down to make the
proper adjustment and fasten the collar.

Power plug
Vacuum pump is normally equipped on LOS-NT
model.
Take the power for the vacuum pump from the outlet
on the right side of the frame body.
(The position of outlet is shown in “6 Major parts and
function.”)
Do NOT select the "vacuum gauge vacuuming" if the
content of pouch includes watery or powdery materials.
It may cause clogging in vacuum gauge piping and
result in the malfunction of the machine.
When sealing watery or powdery materials, please
attach the cap and plug (included in accessories) as in
the right illustration
Ared emergency stop switch is a safety device which
allows the operator to stop the machine in emergency.
Test the emergency stop switch to see if a circuit
breaker turns OFF by pressing it.
1 Turn ON a circuit breaker.
2 Press an emergency stop switch.
3 If the circuit breaker turns OFF, the emergency
stop switch is functioning properly.
The emergency stop switch remains to be activated
unless it is reset by manually turning it clockwise. Make
sure to reset the emergency stop switch before operating
the machine.


Press a red test button of the circuit breaker
as in the right illustration.

When the circuit breaker turns OFF: an
emergency stop switch may be broken.

When the circuit breaker remains in ON
position: a circuit breaker may be broken.
Warning If the circuit breaker does NOT turns OFF
by pressing the emergency stop switch,
follow the instructions below and contact
