1.Set up the operation patterns
Four commonly-used operation patterns are
pre-installed to the machine at the time of
factory shipment.
Before starting the operation, please set up the
suitable operation patterns for your application.
Otherwise, you cannot operate the machine in
the way other than the pre-installed operation
patterns.
You can set the operation patterns according to
the on-screen display of the control unit. Please
refer to this manual for the detail.
2 Seal test and optimum seal condition
There are many variations of package materials
and contents that the customers use. Please
decide the optimum seal conditions including
heating temperature, time, cooling temperature,
as well as the vacuum level according to your
needs after properly performing the seal tests.
Please refer to the following table. It shows the
temperature of dissolution for each kind of
film. Please note that this value will be greatly
affected by the environment, thickness of
package material and other conditions.

V-460G/610G series is a vacuum/gas-flushing sealer controlled by the microcomputer, which makes possible to set
up the various operation patterns that the customers require.
This manual explains the terms that is used when setting the seal conditions. Please read this manual thoroughly
before use for the better understanding on how to set up/operate the V-460G/610G series.
The setting range of heating/cooling temperature is indicated in both degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit. Please check
which unit your machine uses, and refer to the one that matches to your machine.

Please read all of the safety and operating instructions before operating this machine.
Periodic maintenance and proper operation are necessary to ensure safety when using this impulse sealer.
Keep this manual on hand when operating the sealer. Set the heating time according to the material and
thickness of the film.
As a result of research to further improve the V-460G/610G series, some details in the operating instructions
may differ from your actual machine. For operating problems or product information, please contact Van
der Stahl Scientific.
Before using, always verify the voltage
specification of your particular unit and operate it at
the correct voltage.
Please note the following:
1) The voltage specification of your unit is
listed on the label (or in some cases an
aluminum plate) which displays the serial
number. This label can be found on the
machine body.
2) The explanations and illustrations in this
operators' manual utilize the following
standard plug configurations most common
in Japan. However, due to the various
configurations in use worldwide, these may
not necessarily correspond with the one
attached to your specific unit.
The International System of
Units (SI) is a consistent
system that ordinary people as
well as professionals can use.
This logical unit system is
used in every field from
science to industry to
education and even daily life.
As the SI unit system is gradually replacing the
standard pressure unit, this manual primarily uses
SI to indicate pressure. (As a reference, however,
we have also listed the previous notations.)
The following marks are used in this manual to
easily identify the conditions of risks, damages, or
some tips for the optimal use of your unit.

Warning In an emergency, unplug the power cord
immediately
The V-460G/610G series incorporates a number of safety devices and is
carefully designed to prevent fires or other malfunctions. However,
should all of the safety devices fail simultaneously, there is a possibility
of the center-dry tape catching fire due to a failure of the heating
circuit's tripping mechanism that results in the heating element
overheating. Should smoke or fire appear from the center-dry tape,
immediately turn OFF the power or unplug the power cord from the
outlet.
Warning Confirm proper electric power source
Make sure power source has the specified voltage and electric power as
to your machine model.
DO NOT use an extension cord, as the machine may malfunction due to
voltage drop or may result in fire.
Machine will malfunction if connected to anything other than the
specified voltage.
Insert the electric power plug fully into the wall outlet.
Warning Do not insert any metal objects into the sealing
area
Please do not place any metal objects into the sealing area during
operation. This could cause electrocution.
Warning Do not use for packaging liquids
Do not splash water on the machine or use machine for packaging
liquids since machine is not waterproof. There is a danger of
electrocution or malfunction of the machine.

Warning When replacing parts, unplug the power plug
Maintenance of the machine is important. Parts should be replaced in
accordance with the operating instructions. There is a risk of danger if
the parts are not replaced properly. Before replacing parts, unplug the
machine from the power source.
Warning Do not modify the machine
Modification of the sealer or the use of unspecified parts may not only
lead to damage of the machine, but there is also a risk of danger to the
operator. Please do not tamper with the machine. Accidents or damage
caused by modification by the customer is the sole responsibility of the
customer.
Warning If the circuit breaker automatically turns to the
OFF position
If the circuit breaker automatically turns to the OFF position, there is a
possibility of machine malfunction such as short circuit.
Do not operate the machine until the cause of the shut down is
ascertained and the problem has been addressed.
Caution Be careful of the moving parts
A vacuum nozzle comes out automatically in a few seconds after
finishing the operation except when the sealing only mode is selected.
Please be careful of the moving nozzle.
If you bring your face or hands close to the sealing area, you can get
hurt with the nozzle. Also if the sealed pouch is left in the sealing area,
the nozzle can damage the packaging content. Please make sure to
remove the pouch when the lever is open.

Caution Do not use in the following places
Do not operate the machine in the places with high humidity and/or
where the water/vapor can spill on the machine. The machine parts may
become rusted. There is a danger of electrocution and/or machine
malfunction due to the insulation failure.
The small particles can also cause the insulation failure, machine
malfunction as well as short circuit. Do not operate the machine in the
dusty locations or avoid packaging the powdery items.
Caution Do not place hands in the sealing area
With prolonged use, the sealing area will retain heat and become hot.
If you place your fingers in this area, there is a possibility of burns.
Pressing the foot switch will lower the seal lever and pressure is applied
to the seal area. Please be careful not to pinch your fingers to the
sealing area. When two or more operators are involved in the machine
operation, please pay extra attention to avoid accidents.
Caution Use machine properly
Read the operating instructions carefully and operate sealer correctly.
Accidents or damage caused by misuse of the machine not in
accordance with the operating instructions are the sole responsibility of
the customer.
Caution FEP-VA-N2 Printer outlet (manufacture option)
The printer outlet is located on the top of the machine frame cover.
It is to be used ONLY when mounting the optional printer (FEP-
VA-N2). Do NOT attempt to plug any other electronic devices into this
outlet.
Caution Do not use vacuum mode without actually
placing a bag in the seal area
If the vacuum mode is used without placing a bag in the seal area, the
vacuum nozzle directly contacts to the sponge rubbers. The sponge
rubbers can damage as the vacuum nozzle moves back and forth.
Always insert the vacuum nozzle inside a bag when using the machine
under the vacuum mode.

Heating temperature should be set at a minimum
Set sealer so that an acceptable seal is completed at the lowest heating
temperature. Excessively high heating temperatures will damage the
center-dry tape, glass tape and other consumables, as well as result in
heating element breakage. This will lead to decreased work productivity
and unnecessary power consumption.
Allow sufficient cooling
With an impulse type sealer, residual heat after the heating cycle has
been completed is dispersed through the pressure lever and machine
frame, allowing the film to set under pressure. Setting the cooling
temperature excessively low will reduce the work efficiency. Be sure to
allow sufficient cooling for each seal cycle.
If there is a malfunction in the temperature sensor
The temperature sensor is designed to monitor and control heating
temperature by directly measuring the temperature of heating element.
Therefore, when the sensor tip is not positioned correctly or the sensor
is disconnected, the machine will show the error message "Poor
heating" and the lever returns to the initial position.
When replacing the consumable parts such as heating element or the
temperature sensor, please be sure to position the temperature sensor
correctly.
When the center-dry tape, silicone rubber becomes damaged
The center-dry tape, silicone rubber will start to wear with use. Once
they are damaged, it will be difficult to achieve smooth and strong
seals. Thoroughly read how to replace the parts and be careful when
doing so.
Dust in the sealing area
Dust will prevent attainment of a smooth seal. It could also cause
damage to heating element and/or other routine maintenance parts.
Before using the machine, clean the sealing area.
TheV-460G/610G series is an impulse sealer Do not become
alarmed if the sealing area does not become hot after the power switch
is turned to the ON position. The machine has not malfunctioned.
The sealer uses an impulse method so the heating element will not
become hot just by plugging the unit in or turning the power switch to
the ON position. The heater will only become hot for an instant when
the heating process is in operation. However, after extended periods
of use, the sealing area may become hot.

●The level of operation noise may vary between each machine
due to its characteristics
Run test trials before beginning operation
Depending on the type of film being used, heating / cooling conditions
will differ. Run test trials to find the optimum sealing condition,
especially when trying to find the tightest seal possible.
●The I-heating element installed to V-460G/610G series
V-460G/610G series is installed with the I-heating element, which is
made of material whose thermal expansion is minimal.
Features of the I-heating element:
1Because the I-heating element expands less during heating
compared to conventional heating elements, they are less likely
to break, such as in the middle of the heating element.
2The I-heating element may gradually turn black in color after
repeated heating, but this will not have an effect on its use.
3The I-heating element may show some rusting after prolonged
storage, but this will not have an effect on its use.
4The connecting ends of the I-heating element may tarnish or
show discoloration depending on the environment, but this will
not have an effect on its use.
When you order the spare heating element, please make sure to order
the “I”-heating element referring to the parts numbers listed in “16
&RQVXPDEOHSDUWVOLVW´ĺSDJH.
●Sticker
The sticker of I-heating element is adhered to the upper right position
of the seal cover of the machine for your easy identification of heating
element material. When replacing the heating element, please make
sure that the same sticker is adhered to the box of spare heating
element.
About the I-heating element
Caution Make sure to use the I-heating element to V-460G/610G
series; otherwise, the machine cannot control the heating
temperature properly.

The V-460G/610G is a tabletop impulse sealer equipped
with nozzles for removing air and gas flushing.
When the nozzles are inserted into a bag, the bag will
be securely locked by sponge-rubber strips covering the
sealing jaws. The air in the bag will be removed by the
built-in vacuum pump connected to a nozzle, and also
gas is flushed though the other nozzle.
Once the vacuuming and gas-flushing process is
complete and the nozzles retracted, the sealing jaws will
clamp immediately, sealing, or thermally fusing, the
bag.
Also, the device can perform just the sealing operation
with the nozzles completely tucked away.
Seal parameters including heating temperature, heating
time, cooling temperature, and vacuuming/ gas-flushing
settings are set on the control unit.
The machine operates by stepping on an air pedal.
1The impulse sealer is a machine which sends strong electric current quickly to the thin ribbon heater,
which presses against the film and instantly heat seals the package. Though this machine yields
superior quality sealing, it is not compatible with films thicker than that indicated in the diagram
below, sponge-like sheets, and materials which are not able to withstand high heat.
2Film thickness limits for the V-460G/610G series are described below. The machine cannot seal
bags which are thicker than that indicated.
The machine may malfunction if you try to exceed the limits of the machine.

For safety and efficient operation, please set the sealer
in the appropriate place as described below.
See the label attached to the machine to determine the
proper voltage and electrical power. Make sure the
electrical outlet has adequate current carrying capacity
to your machine model. Completely insert the electric
power plug into the wall outlet.
7 Proper use of the sealer

Warning The power consumption varies depending
on each model. Check that the capacity of
the outlet is larger than the power
consumption of your machine, and plug it
directly to the outlet.
Using an outlet with a smaller capacity or
an extension cord will cause a drop in
voltage, resulting in malfunction and even
fire because of overheating of the cable
and outlet. Be sure to use an appropriate
outlet.
Warning When you have changed the standard plug
provided, check the connection.
The wires are connected as shown in the
figure. When the ground wire is not
connected to the correct terminal, a short
on the power source side or an electric
leakage is caused.
Warning Installing the machine on an unstable or
inclined surface may cause the overturn of
the sealer. Be sure to install the machine
on a flat, horizontal surface and secure the
appropriate workbench.
Warning Do NOT use the sealer on a wet floor. Do
not expose the sealer to water drops or
vapor. This may cause a failure and/or a
short circuit of the machine.
Caution Do NOT carry the sealer by holding the
lever arm nor pressure lever. It can cause
malfunction of the machine. Use the
handles on both sides of the machine.
Caution When placing the machine against a wall,
provide at least 150mm clearance between
the wall and the machine.

A red emergency stop switch is a safety device which
allows the operator to stop the machine in emergency.
Test the emergency stop switch to see if a circuit
breaker turns OFF ( ) by pressing it.
1Turn ON ( ) the circuit breaker.
2Press the emergency stop switch.
3If the circuit breaker turns OFF ( ),
the emergency stop switch is functioning
properly.
After finishing emergency stop switch tests, reset it by
turning it clockwise.
7-3 Test emergency stop system
Warning If the circuit breaker does NOT turn OFF
by pressing the emergency stop switch,
follow the below instructions and contact
Van der Stahl Scientific.
Press a test button of the circuit breaker
as in the right illustration.
When the circuit breaker turns OFF: the
emergency stop switch may be broken.
When the circuit breaker remains in ON
position: the circuit breaker may be
broken.
Attention The emergency stop switch remains to be
activated unless it is reset by manually
turning it clockwise. Make sure to reset the
emergency stop switch.
Warning When the emergency stop is used when
the pressure lever is in sponge
(vacuuming/gas-flushing) position, it goes
further down before returning to the initial
position.
If any foreign object is caught between the
seal jaws at this point, you need to remove
it from the seal area before using the
emergency stop switch.

Insert an air pedal hose securely into the elbow of the
main frame air switch located on the right side of the
machine.
The table height and angle can be adjusted by changing
the table mounting position to the angle bars with holes.
Attach/remove a table
1Hold a table with both hands.
2Press the push keys on both sides of the table
with your forefingers and put them to holes of
angle steels. Please make sure to set the table to
the preferred height by changing hole position.
3When removing the table, press the push keys
with your forefingers and pull the table towards
you to remove.
■Adjust table angle with drop pins
1Set drop pins of the table legs on both sides of
the table to the holes of angle steels. By
changing the level of holes, you can adjust the
table angle.
2Removing the drop pins is the reverse of the
installation procedure. Remove the drop pins
from the holes while pushing them inside.

Warning Make sure to securely set the push keys
and drop pins to the angle steels;
otherwise, the table may drop or tilt
obliquely by a small impact resulting in
injury.
TIPS It is easier to set the drop pins one at a
time than to set both pins at the same
time.
Attention Install the table keys and drop pins on both
sides at the same level.
