Thank you for choosing the Yealink SIP IP phones, which are exquisitely designed to
provide basic telephone features plus advanced business features, such as Call Park,
Call Pickup, Call Jump, Intercom/PTT and Enhanced Monitor Extension over an IP
network.
The purpose of this guide is to serve as a basic guidance for configuring Yealink SIP IP
phones, including:

Getting Started
1
This chapter provides the following basic installation instructions and information for
obtaining the best performance with the SIP IP phone. Topics include:
Phone Installation
Phone Initialization
Phone Status
If you require additional information or assistance with your new phone, contact your
system administrator.
You have two options for power and network connections.
AC power (Optional)
Power over Ethernet (PoE)
AC Power
To connect the AC power:
1. Connect the DC plug on the power adapter to the DC5V port on the phone and
connect the other end of the power adapter into an electrical power outlet.
2. Connect the included or a standard Ethernet cable between the Internet port on the
phone and the one on the wall or switch/hub device port.
Power over Ethernet
With the included or a regular Ethernet cable, IP phones can be powered from a
PoE-compliant switch or hub.

To connect the PoE:
1. Connect the Ethernet cable between the Internet port on the phone and an
available port on the in-line power switch/hub.
Note
After your phone is powered on, the phone boots up and attempts to contact a DHCP
server in your network to obtain valid IPv4 network settings (e.g., IP address, subnet
mask, default gateway address and DNS address) by default.
You can view phone status via phone user interface.
Available information of phone status includes:
Network status (e.g., IPv4 status, IP mode, MAC address).
Phone status (e.g., product name, hardware version, firmware version, product ID,
MAC address and device certificate status).
Account status (e.g., register status of SIP accounts).
To view the phone status via phone user interface:
1. Press , or press Menu->Status.
If in-line power switch/hub is provided, you don’t need to connect the phone to the power
adapter. Make sure the switch/hub is PoE-compliant.
The IP phone can also share the network with another network device such as a PC
(personal computer). It is an optional connection.
Important! Do not unplug or remove the power while the IP phone is updating firmware
and configurations.

This guide describes how to configure Yealink SIP IP phones via the following ways:
Phone User Interface
CommPortal Phone Configurator
The hardware components keypad and LCD screen constitute the phone user interface,
which allows the user to execute all call operation tasks and basic configuration
changes directly on the phone. An administrator or a user can configure and use IP
phones via phone user interface. If the administrator wants to deploy small number of
phones, this method can be used. However, if the administrator wants to deploy and
maintain a mass of IP phones, then the CommPortal phone configurator will be
recommended.
You can choose the desired configuration method to operate the phone and change
settings according to actual needs.
You can customize your phone by pressing the Menu soft key to access the phone user
interface. The Advanced Settings option is only accessible to the administrator, and the
default administrator password is “admin”(case-sensitive).

The CommPortal Phone Configurator is an online graphical user interface for the
Metaview SIP provisioning server. Administrators and end users can configure the
features for the IP phones using a simple and intuitive interface. For more information,
refer to: www.metaswitch.com.

When CommPortal phone applications and authentication information are configured
already, users can perform auto provisioning to download all the configuration files
from the CommPortal phone configurator.
Yealink IP phones support MAC authentication method to deploy phones. For more
information on MAC authentication, refer to: www.metaswitch.com. Yealink IP phones
also support HTTP digest authentication as defined in RFC 2617 to deploy phones. The
system administrator only needs to provide authentication user name and password to
the users, and then users can complete phone deployment on their own.
The following takes HTTP digest authentication method as an example to introduce
phone deployment.
Yealink IP phones support many ways to obtain the provisioning server address (e.g., by
detecting DHCP options 66/contacting Redirection & Provisioning Server (RPS)/manual
settings).
When using DHCP option 66 or RPS to obtain the provisioning server address, make sure
DHCP server or Redirection & Provisioning server has been configured in advance.
For more information on manual settings, refer to Auto Provision Now on page8.
The update mode is used to set the desired time to trigger the IP phone to perform the
auto provisioning process. Yealink IP phones support many update modes. Here we
take the followings as examples to introduce how to trigger the phone to perform auto
provisioning:
Power On
Auto Provision Now
Zero Touch
The phone can obtain the provisioning server address by detecting DHCP options 66/
contacting RPS when it is powered on, and then the phone will perform the auto
provisioning process to download configuration files. You can also manually configure
the provisioning server address, and then perform the auto provisioning via power on.

To trigger auto provisioning via powered on:
1. After powered on, the LCD screen will be displayed as below:
2. Press the Login soft key to enter the Auto Provision screen.
3. Enter the user name (e.g., 9702981673) and account password in the User name
and Password field respectively.
4. Press the OK soft key.
The phone will reboot. During reboot, the phone will send the username and the
password to the server for authentication. If successful, the phone will complete
deployment after reboot. Then you can access the features you configured on the
CommPortal phone configurator via your phone.
Note
You can use Auto Provision Now method to trigger the IP phone to perform the auto
provisioning immediately. Before performing the auto provisioning, you need to enter
the provisioning server address manually.
To trigger auto provisioning via auto provision now:
1. Press Menu->Settings->Advanced Settings->Auto Provision.
2. Enter the provisioning server address (e.g., http:// example.com /sip-ps/) in the
Server URL field.
3. Press the Save soft key.
The LCD screen will be displayed as below:
4. Press the Ok soft key.
Long press can reboot the phone. This will also trigger the phone to perform auto
provisioning.

The LCD screen will be displayed as below:
5. Press the Login soft key to enter the Auto Provision screen.
6. Enter the user name (e.g., 9702981673) and account password in the User name
and Password field respectively.
7. Press the OK soft key.
The phone will reboot. During reboot, the phone will send the username and the
password to the server for authentication. If successful, the phone will complete
deployment after reboot. Then you can access the features you configured on the
CommPortal phone configurator via your phone.
If you change the parameter settings on the CommPortal phone configurator, you can
press the zero touch key (if configured) to quickly perform auto provisioning to apply the
changes to your phone.
To configure a zero touch key via CommPortal phone configurator:
1. Click on Programmable Keys - Line Key->Key X.
2. Select Zero Touch from the Soft key action field.
3. (Optional.) Enter the string that will appear on the LCD screen in the Label field.
4. Click Save changes to accept the change.
5. Perform auto provisioning on the phone to download above configurations. For
more information on how to perform auto provisioning, refer to Downloading
Configuration Files on page 7.

To trigger auto provisioning via zero touch:
1. Press the zero touch key when the phone is idle.
The LCD screen prompts “Update now? 5s”.
2. Press the OK soft key.
3. Press the Next soft key.
4. Configure the provisioning authentication user name and password in the Auto
Provision screen.
An example of screenshot is shown as below:
5. Press the OK soft key.
After the above configuration is completed, the IP phone will connect to the
configured provisioning server and reboot to perform the auto provisioning
process.
If the first authentication is successful, you do not need to enter authentication user
name and password again in the next auto provisioning.

If your phone cannot contact a DHCP server for any reason, you need to configure
network settings manually. The IP phone can support either or both IPv4 and IPv6
addresses. If your phone can not contact a DHCP server for any reason, you need to
configure a static IP address.
To configure the IP address mode via CommPortal phone configurator:
1. Click on Network >IP Setting.
2. Select IPv4,IPv6 or IPv4 & IPv6 from the Internet Port Mode(IPv4/IPv6) field.
3. Click Save changes to accept the change.
4. Perform auto provisioning on the phone to download above configurations. For
more information on how to perform auto provisioning, refer to Downloading
Configuration Files on page 7.
To configure a static IPv4 address via CommPortal phone configurator:
1. Click on Network >IP Setting.
Make sure that the IP address mode is configured as IPv4 or IPv4 & IPv6.
2. Select Static IP Address from the Internet Port Type for IPV4 pull-down list.

3. Enter the desired values in the Static IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, Primary
DNS and Secondary DNS fields respectively.
4. Press the Save soft key to accept the change.
5. Perform auto provisioning on the phone to download above configurations. For
more information on how to perform auto provisioning, refer to Downloading
Configuration Files on page 7.
To configure a static IPv6 address via CommPortal phone configurator:
1. Click on Network >IP Setting.
Make sure that the IP address mode is configured as IPv6 or IPv4 & IPv6.
2. Select Static IP Address from the Internet Port Type for IPV6 pull-down list.
3. Enter the desired values in the Static IP Address, IPv6 Prefix, Gateway, Primary DNS
and Secondary DNS fields respectively.
4. Click Save changes to accept the change.
