1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The ZEUSDMD-4K Multi-Format Video Decoder is a system capable of processing multi-format H.265 and
H.264 High Profile video up to 2160p at 60 frames per second. The DMD-4K is a cost-effective system
suitable for broadcast encoders and IP streaming. The DMD-4K provides immediate access to multi-format 4K
video, integrated system peripherals and production-qualified codecs.
The DMD-4K features multiple I/O interfaces, including USB 3.0, USB console, Ethernet, HDMI in and out,
and power. Multiple interfaces allow customers to quickly integrate full H.265 2160p performance in their
network without the power consumption and physical space required of a PC-based platform.

5.0 GETTING STARTED WITH THE DMD-4K
5.1 Connecting to the DMD-4K
The DMD-4K uses a modern HTML5-embedded Web server for user configuration. Users can connect to
the Z3 device via Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) port. The factory default IP is 192.168.0.59.
6.0 QUICK START GUIDE
6.1 If you have received a system from Z3 with Software Preloaded
To start working with the encoder, you can go straight to Section Error! Reference source not found.,
“GETTING STARTED WITH THE DMD-4K,” on page 6. This section describes how to quickly generate a
UDP, RTP, RTSP or RTMP stream over IP as well as how to generate an ASI stream. Information is also
provided on how to change bitrate dynamically, how to adjust the UDP TS rate, tuning for latency,
streaming in multiple resolutions, recording to USB and utilizing various features including MPTS,
closed captioning and forward error correction.
6.2 If You Already have a System from Z3 and Need to Update the Firmware
You can update the firmware via the HTTP-based user interface by following the instructions in Section
Error! Reference source not found.: “Making a Firmware Update”, on page Error! Bookmark not
defined..
*Note: Actual version numbers for your Z3 product may differ from those pictured in this document.
6.3 Access the User Interface using ZFinder
ZFinder is a PC Utility that allows you to find any Z3 Technology product on your network. If you have
not downloaded this to your computer, you can find it on the USB drive provided with your system.
(1) Verify your PC is on the same network. If you are not in the same network, your device will appear in
red in Z-Finder or Z-Finder may not be able to find your device.
(2) Run the “ZFinder” PC Utility on your Windows PC. The ZFinder window appears. ZFinder completes a
scan of the network and lists the location of all Z3 systems connected to the network. In this case,
the Z3-DME-20 appears.
(3) Click on the Z3-DME-20 entry in the window to select it. This will cause the “Edit Device”, “Open
Device” and “Flash LEDs” boxes to activate.

*Note:Selecting “Edit Device” allows for manual changes to network settings including the Device Name, IP Address,
Netmask and Gateway address. Edit Device will only edit the device in Z-Finder. IP settings will need to changed and
Save in the System Set-up tab of the web gui. Selecting “Flash LED’s” causes the status lights to flash and can be
helpful if multiple devices are in use.
*Note: If the device appears in red, there is a network error, and network settings will need to be modified in order
to access the user interface.

7.0 STREAMING RTSP
Pictured is a screencap of RTSP streaming configured. In ‘Channel Controls’ there is a “status: RUNNING”
showing the DMD-4K is decoding. To stop the stream, click on the “stop” button.

8.0 STREAMING UDP
To stream UDP choose the protocol UDP option. The URL format is udp://0.0.0.0:localport

9.0 MULTICHANNEL DECODE
1) Go to the System Setup tab
2) In the Display Setup section, change the Layout to 2x2
3) Hit the Set Display button
4) Click on the “+” tab (to the right of the CH1 tab), to create the CH2 tab.
5) Continue adding CH3 and CH4 tabs.
6) Configure each decoder channel
7) Hit the Save button to save your settings

10.0 LATENCY
It is recommended to review the document DOC-USR-0147-01_Z3Cam-4K_Latency_note.pdf for a
better understanding on the testing methodology to obtain optimum latency results with the
decoder.

12.1 Making a Firmware Update
(1) Open the user interface.
(2) Select “Update device firmware” from the “System Setup” tab under the “Device Management”
section.

(3) This brings you to the update image screen. In this screen, click on the “Choose File” button.
(4) This brings you to the file selection screen. From here, select the name of the .img file to update
with and click “Open”.

The image file to be used will typically have the word “UPD” in the name.

(5) Click the “Upload and Update” button.
(6) You will see screens stating that the image is being uploaded and that the flash is being updated.
After about one minute, you should see the main menu again.
(7) Your DMD-4K is now updated.
