HE265-DEC QUICK START GUIDE
Connecting to the HE265-DEC
The HE265-DEC uses a modern HTML5-embedded Web server for user configuration. Users can connect
to the Z3 device via Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) port 1 or GigE port 2. GigE port 1 is factory defaulted to
DHCP and GigE port 2 is factory defaulted to 192.168.2.7.
User Name and Password

Zero-configuration (zeroconf) Host Name
The HE265-DEC supports the multicast DNS zero configuration (zeroconf) host naming scheme. Z3 devices
are addressable using their hostname (serial number) on a local area network. The zeroconf access is
enabled (default) for GigE port 1. Zeroconf is disabled (default) for GigE port 2, though users can change the

enabled zeroconf port in the HOST/Ethernet tab in the GUI. Zeroconf allows users to enter the device’s
serial number followed by “.local/”to resolve a device’s web page with an unknown DHCP-issued IP address.
“9261-00404.local/” will resolve to the Z3 device with serial number 9261-00404 without knowing the
devices IP Address. Zeroconf will also work with ping and ssh.
Logging into a Z3 using a Host Name
Type the Z3 serial number into the URL modal in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge

Type the Z3 IP Address into the URL modal in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge
STREAMING RTSP AND RECORDING SIMULTANEOUSLY
Pictured is a screencap of RTSP streaming configured. At the end of ‘Decoding’ there is a light green
indicator bar showing the HE265-DEC is decoding. To stop the stream, click on the grey stop square.

Below is a screencap of the file recording at the same time. Along with the light green indicator bar there is
now an additional red bar that shows it is recording. To stop the file recording change protocol to Off and
click Apply.
STEAMING UDP
To stream UDP choose the protocol UDP/RTP option. Indicate which interface the UDP traffic will be
coming in on. For the ‘Address’ use 0.0.0.0 and type in the Port number. Click 'Apply.

UPGRADING Z3 FIRMWARE
Upgrading from the Web UI
1. Navigate to the HOST Tab. Download the firmware to a disk and folder on your Windows/MAC/Linux
computer.
2. From the HOST tab, select the SYSTEM sub-tab, and click “Check for Space.”
3. Choose File (firmware) from your computer’s disk and folder.
4. Click “Check for Space,” then choose the FW file from your PC local disk.

5. Click “Upload” button to upload the firmware from your computer to the HE265-DEC.

If prompted with “Not Enough Space,” try logging out and back into the GUI. If the prompt persists, please remove media from the SD card to ensure
enough space for uploading the firmware package.

6. Select “OK” to confirm or “Cancel” to end the upgrading process.
7. Warning prompt and System Status prompt are informative only. Select “OK” to close.
Uploading new firmware from a USB drive (thumb-drive)
The HE265-DEC supports USB2 and USB3 media devices. To upload the new firmware from a
USB media device (thumb-drive), follow the steps below.
1. Download the firmware to a disk and folder on your computer.
2. Copy the firmware file from your computer’s disk and folder to the USB media device.

i. There must ONLY be one copy of the firmware on the media device. Remove previous
versions before inserting the media device into the HE265-DEC USB interface.
3. Safely remove the media device from your PC.
4. Insert the media device into the USB interface on the HE265-DEC
5. The fan and top blue LED will go off once the system mounts the media device and starts the
upgrade script. The disk mount and script start takes about 10 seconds. The upgrade will take a
little over a minute to complete. The device will reboot automatically.
6. You can remove the USB media device from the HE265-DEC after the unit reboots and starts
decoding.
7. To confirm the update was successful:
i. Check the firmware version on the Web UI on the right side just above the tabs. The
version should reflect the name of the firmware file loaded onto the USB media device.
ii. Insert the USB media device into your PC and open the firmwareUpdate log.
8. If more that one unit is upgraded using the same USB media device, there will be a firmware
update log for each unit. The naming scheme for the firmware update log is as follows.
