1. Introduction
This document describes how to reinitialize the system variables in a Z3 Zeus Encoder system.
The procedure for doing this within Windows and within Linux is described. These commands should be run
from the same PC that the Web GUI for the Zeus Encoder is being accessed from.
2. Doing a System Reinitialization from Windows
(1) In the lower left corner, select “start” and select “Run …” [Note: May be different depending on the
version of Windows used –Windows XP is shown here].
(2) This will bring up the “Run” window. Bring up a command window by typing “cmd” and then <return>.
Select “Run …”

(3) In the command window, type “telnet x.y.z.w”, where x.y.z.w is the IP address of the Zeus encoder box.
Default IP settings are as follows:
DME-01, MVE-02, MVE-20, MVPR-01: 192.168.0.65
DME-02: 192.168.81.07
MVPR-02: 192.168.81.48
HE4K-01, MVE-40, MVE-100, MVPR-20: 192.168.81.68
Command for the MVPR-02 shown below as an example:
(4) You should then see a login prompt (the exact type will depend on the Zeus product used). At this prompt,
type “arago login:” prompt. Type “root” and <return>. [MVPR-02 login shown below].
(5) Now you are ready to type in the command to reset the system configuration. This varies depending on the
Zeus product used. The command to type is as follows:
DME-01, MVE-02, MVE-20, MVPR-01: flash_eraseall /dev/mtd5
DME-02: flash_eraseall /dev/mtd7
MVPR-02: flash_eraseall /dev/mtd7
HE4K-01, MVE-40, MVE-100, MVPR-20: flash_eraseall /dev/mtd6
You will see a status message, a list of bad blocks skipped, and finally a “100% complete” message
[command for MVPR-02 shown as an example]:
(6) You are finished. Exit the command window, exit your web browser, turn off your board, and then restart
everything.

3. Doing a System Reinitialization from Linux
(1) On the Linux PC you’re using to connect to the Zeus encoder, open a Terminal window and type “telnet
x.y.z.w”, where x.y.z.w is the IP address of the Zeus encoder box. Default IP settings are as follows:
DME-01, MVE-02, MVE-20, MVPR-01: 192.168.0.65
DME-02: 192.168.81.07
MVPR-02: 192.168.81.48
HE4K-01, MVE-40, MVE-100, MVPR-20: 192.168.81.68
(2) You should get a login prompt. At this prompt, type “root” and <return>

(4) You are finished. Exit the terminal, exit your web browser, turn off your board, and then restart everything.
