Changing the Septa
Remove the print
heads from the
carriage.
Remove the fast axis
from the machine
Cover the binder
hose plug with paper
towels and secure
with a rubber band.
Place a paper towel
inside the assembly
to soak up any stray
binder.
Pull all the binder
tubes loose from the
septa.
Note- make sure you
have your paper
towels handy.
When the tubes are
pulled from the
septa, binder will leak
from the tubes.

85063 Spectrum Z510 Preventative Maintenance Procedure 5/12
Remove the four e-
rings that retain the
septa.
Note – be careful not
to lose the plastic
washers that are
attached to the top
side of the septum.
Old septum shown
with the four plastic
washers that must be
re-installed on new
septa before
installation.
Septum being
removed. Note –
The plastic washer
tends to stick to the
carriage. Do not lose
them.

85063 Spectrum Z510 Preventative Maintenance Procedure 6/12
Install the septum
(septa).
Note – you will have
to insert the L
shaped connector in
the hole first by
holding it on an
angle, and then
straighten it out as
the connection area
passes the hole.
Make sure each has
the plastic washer
attached.
Hold the septa in
place, and attach
all four e-ring clips.
Loop the yellow tube
over the top of the
clear. This lessens
the amount of
pinching force on the
base of the yellow
tube. Some
carriages may have
the yellow tube going
under the clear.
If so, please re-route
at this time.
Re-attach the binder
tubes

85063 Spectrum Z510 Preventative Maintenance Procedure 7/12
Clean all the pogo
connections with the
alcohol crush tubes.
Clean up any binder
on the bottom of the
carriage, and make
sure the alignment
window is clean.
Re-install the Fast
axis module and pull
several syringes of
binder through the
septa to clear all air
bubbles.
Re-install the print
heads (purge if new
heads)
Run an auto-
alignment.

Service Station Wiper Remove/Replace
This is the service
station wiper. It is one
of the components in
the maintenance kit.
Raise the old wiper up
and out of the way.
Remove the two hex
screws that mount the
assembly into place.
Note – The ZPrinter
510 and ZPrinter 650
use the same wiper
assembly, and the
mounting screws and
method is the same.

85063 Spectrum Z510 Preventative Maintenance Procedure 9/12
Remove the squirter
block, clean it and
clean the holes with
the tip of the syringe
tool.
Clean the holes from
both sides.
Align the rubber wiper
with the holes in the
squirter block and
wrap around the block.

85063 Spectrum Z510 Preventative Maintenance Procedure 10/12
Once aligned, insert
both mounting screws
into place to hold the
assembly together.
Tighten both screws
evenly. (see next
picture for clarification)
Note – The ZPrinter
510 and ZPrinter 650
use the same wiper
assembly, and the
mounting screws and
method is the same.
As you tighten the two
screws (alternate to
keep the pressure even)
you will notice that the
rubber bulges out from
underneath the mount.
When properly
tightened, the rubber will
extend by nearly 1/8
inch. This should be a
visual indication that the
pressure is even on the
two screws and the
assembly is tightened
enough.
Return power cord to
system, power up the
system.

Testing the flow rate
1. SET UP: From ZPrint,
choose Bleed Air from the
service menu, then click
Start (this will move the
carriage to the front of the
machine and prevent it from
auto parking even when
you close the top cover.
The safest option is to
power down the printer and
manually move the carriage
to the front, right side of the
deck.
2. CHECK: Make sure there is
some binder in the bottles
for the line you are testing.
3. INSERT: Clamp the test
tubing near the syringe and
insert the print head fitting
into the septum
4. PRIME LINE: Carefully
open the clamp to allow the
test tubing to fill with binder
5. Dangle the tubing (still
clamped) outside of the
machine; using a shim (a
bottle cap, pen, etc.) close
the cover making sure the
seal doesn’t compress the
testing tube.
6. Position the syringe so that
the end of the tube is close
to the same height as the
control panel.
7. TEST: Release the clamp
and let the binder drip into
the collection syringe. Re-
clamp the tube at 30
SECONDS.
8. Record and compare the
amount of binder collected
in the syringe (reading ml)
to the chart.
9. Should get 8-10 ml/30 sec.
(depends on how much
binder is in the tanks)
If you get within this range
you do not have a flow
problem!
End of tube
close to
deck level
Syringe with
plunger
removed.
Cover propped
up to not crush
tubing
