4. Functions
4.1. Test functions
The SACE PR010/T test unit tests protection units by onitoring both their HW
and SW co ponents. The unit perfor s the following tests:
- Trip test: by eans of SACE TT1 unit
- Protection functions test
- Co unication functions test
4.1.1. Trip test
The trip test tests the operation of the icroprocessor, release and opening solenoid
chain. This test ay also be perfor ed with the circuit breaker closed.
Such test is perfor ed by eans of SACE TT1 unit.
F r safety reas ns, the current fl w inside the circuit breaker must
be zer during testing.
For this reason, the current flow is auto atically onitored before testing and
registered as zero if the reading detected is below a preset value.
4.1.2. Pr tecti n functi ns test
The device under test is powered up and the fault condition for the protection
function to be tested is si ulated. In case of units provided with internal bus, the
internal status of the protections (alar and trip essages etc.) ay also be
onitored.
In case of certain releases, the type of release and circuit breaker and the rated
current of the CTs installed are also auto atically identified.
F r safety reas ns, pr tecti n functi n tests must nly be perf rmed
with the circuit breaker pen.
These tests ay be perfor ed in both auto atic and anual ode.
•Aut matic m de: releases equipped with internal bus (see electrical
diagra s in Technical Catalogue) are auto atically tested. The PR010/T unit
is in fact capable of self-learning the protection para eter settings and, based

L0876
RH0025.002 7/22ABB SACE SACE PR010/T
on these para eters, to generate a fault signal for each function in order to
test the delay. In the event of an ano aly, the type of error detected is indicated
by the corresponding essage (setting or delay error). This sequence is
auto atically repeated on all unit functions. Testing ay be interrupted at
any ti e using the STOP button, thereby restoring the original conditions/
settings of the protection unit prior to testing. In the case of releases not
equipped with internal bus, the user ust preset the protections before testing.
•Manual m de: this test ay be perfor ed on any type of protection. In this
case, the user ust set all the protection para eters before testing. During
anual testing, the user selects the type of device to be tested fro a enu,
whereupon device protection functions and settings are displayed so that the
user can set the required test para eters. If the user selects an inter ediate
setting in relation to those actually available, the SACE PR010/T test unit
will auto atically convert it to the highest one. The fault ay be si ulated
either separately or si ultaneously on any co bination of phases L1, L2,
L3 and NE.
4.1.3. C mmunicati n functi ns test
The SACE PR010/T test unit can also test the serial co unication circuits of
the protection releases.
4.2. Programming function
Using the SACE PR010/T test unit, the type of releases with internal bus ounted
on ABB SACE circuit breakers can be progra ed.
You can also progra all the protection function para eters (setting, curve,
interlock para eters etc.). The para eter-progra ing function does not interrupt
the nor al operation of the protection unit, although para eters cannot be set if
a protection alar is pending.
The SACE PR010/T test unit will not set para eters outside the per itted range.
A essage is displayed at the end of progra ing to indicate that the para eters
have been successfully progra ed.
Each operating para eter odified ust first be confir ed before it is saved. In
the event of a progra ing error, si ply press the ESC key to cancel the last
entry/action.

L0876

ABB SACE SACE PR010/T
4.3. Parameter reading function
If the SACE PR010/T test unit is connected to releases with internal bus, it’s
possible to read the ain para eters of the protection units.
At the user’s express request and, subject to availability, the SACE PR010/T test
unit can provide infor ation about the following:
- protection status (settings, alar s, trips etc.)
- circuit breaker status (nu ber of circuit breaker operations, contact wear etc.)
- phase, neutral and earth fault current readings
- serial nu ber and SW release (available on the “Infor ation” enu page).
The parameter reading functi n is permanently available, irrespective f
the pr tecti ns, and CB status.
4.4. Protection unit interface
The SACE PR010/T test unit can perfor all the operations described above
without drawing-out the protection units fro the circuit breakers. The test unit
is in fact connected to the releases by a set of cables each fitted with a special
connector.
The SACE PR010/T test unit is connected to the various types of release using
the specific cables for each type of release.
4.5. PC interface
The SACE PR010/T test unit is fitted with a connector (3) for connection to a PC
(standard RS232 serial port). This interface is used to update the unit’s software
and download test reports.
4.6. Test report
The SACE PR010/T test unit can save the ain test results in order to co pile a
test report. The unit can, store up to five test reports.
The unit also saves test data, even when disconnected fro the power supply.
Test results are downloaded to a PC when the user requests a test report.
After a group of test reports is downloaded in the PC it’s advisable to delete the
fro the PR010/T in order to have enough free e ory available for new reports.
The test report contains the following infor ation, which is both auto atically
supplied by the unit and anually entered by the user:
