Congratulations for choosing a BTSR product.
With our SMART KTF 2000 monitoring and programming terminal connected to
KTF/100HP yarn feeding devices or to KTF/RW systems, you got an innovative,
unique solution able to offer you multiple advantages concerning quality of your
production.
Even if the KTF/100HP devices or to KTF/RW systems can operate fully
autonomously, the coupling with SMART KTF 2000 terminal highly facilitate the
device programming operations; in addition it allows performing various
measurements, graphic visualizations and statistical functions which contribute to
keep under control and to improve the quality of your production.
How to Use this Manual
This Operating Manual is divided into 4 Chapters and 2 Appendices.
Chapter 1 – Overview describes the main features, components and the principle of
operation of SMART KTF 2000 terminal, connected to KTF/100HP yarn feeding
devices or to KTF/RW systems.
Chapter 2 – Technical Data and Installation gives the necessary instructions to
correctly install the SMART KTF 2000 terminal on a textile machine already
equipped with KTF/100HP devices or to KTF/RW systems.
Chapter 3 – Operation gives a detailed description of the necessary operation to
setup and program the SMART KTF 2000 terminal according to the application
needs.
For your convenience, this chapter has been subdivided into 2 parts:
3A –SMART KTF 2000 – KTF/100HP operation and
3B –SMART KTF 2000 – KTF/RW operation.
Chapter 4 – Troubleshooting and Maintenance provides a quick guide to solving
the main technical faults on SMART KTF 2000 system.
Appendix A –SMART KTF 2000 – KTF/100HP Quick Reference summarizes the
sequence of operations that staff who have had sufficient experience in handling
the system, have to carry out in order to setup and program the system connected to
KTF/100HP devices.

The requisite for a correct interpretation of this manual, is the knowledge of
KTF/100HP or KTF/RW system operating characteristics.
For any detail, you are kindly requested to consult the KTF/100HP or KTF/RW
Operating Manuals.
The users wishing to deepen their knowledge of KTF/100HP devices, as far as
the performance and application characteristics are concerned, can request to
BTSR or their local distributor of BTSR product the BTSR NEWS “Speciale

Symbols Used
Highlights notes, warnings and subjects to which the attention of the reader
should be directed.
Indicates a particularly sensitive situation which could have an effect
on the safety or proper operation of the system.
While scrolling through features that can be activated from the SETUP,
MEASUR and CONTR menus described on chapter 3 (SMART KTF 2000
Operation), this symbol indicates the procedure that describes the specific
feature. The same symbol is shown at the beginning of the page, which
describes in details the function itself.
KTF/.. Means KTF/100HP and/or KTF/RW without distinctions.
MODE 04
This symbol indicates that, if the KTF100HP is operating in Mode 04, the
characteristics of the described function are different. For further
information please refer to paragraph “Specific Operation Characteristics
for Mode 04”, page 3.21 of KTF/100HP manual.
These symbols indicate the typical applications currently implemented on
SMART KTF 2000 terminal. The presence of one or more symbols in the
page header means that the function described in that page is enabled for
the indicated applications only.
If no symbol appears on the page header, then the described function
applies to all the applications.
Within the Appendices A and B “Quick Reference” the push-buttons of

General System Characteristics
SMART KTF 2000 is a monitoring/programming terminal, which allows
communicating in real time with all the KTF/.. devices (up to 200), installed onboard
of a textile machine.
Using the SMART KTF 2000 terminal you may create an article’s Database (up to a
maximum of 99 articles, depending on the amount of memory used) and to associate
to each article the tension control parameters for all the KTF/.. devices involved in
the manufacturing of the article itself.
The real time communications between SMART KTF 2000 terminal and KTF
devices allows performing several functions including:
Automatic Numbering of KTF/.. devices (BTSR patent);
Loading the tension control parameters to one or more KTF devices, without
the need to directly operate on each individual device;
Real time reading of Working Tension, Speed and Amount of Yarn Fed by
each device KTF100/HP, comparing them with the parameters detected
during the Learn phase;
Real time reading (and comparison by means of bar charts) of the amount of
yarn fed (LFA) by a given number of KTF devices (either 8, 12 or 16);
Test of KTF devices and of communication line between SMART KTF 2000
and KTF/.. devices;
Self-learning and automatic control of the amount of yarn fed by each
KTF/.. during a sample manufacturing cycle;
Setting the amount of yarn to be wound (Target) on bobbins of a rewinding
machine, with possibility to control in real time the quantity of yarn fed by
each KTF/RW device.
Automatic INCREMENT/DECREMENT of the yarn tension at
programmable intervals (KTF/RW only).

Function customization according to the application
As the KTF/.. devices are used on several types of textile machines/applications,
and each one of these applications has specific characteristics and requirements, the
software of SMART KTF 2000 terminal can be configured by the user in such a
way that the menus will show only the functions relevant to the selected
application.
Each application already provides a default configuration defined by BTSR;
however, you can change such configuration, depending on your actual needs.

Specific Characteristics and Performances of SMART KTF 2000
Terminal
The SMART KTF 2000 system provides a set of unique features which make it a
true micro-computer dedicated to the control/programming activities and statistical
analysis of production.
The main advantages obtained when using the SMART KTF 2000 terminal
connected to KTF/.. devices are the following:
The identification of an impediment to the normal running of the yarns is
detected prior to cause a defect or size variation of the article produced;
The identification of lint in the yarn guides which could easily lead to the
yarn braking causing holes to form in the fabric and the subsequent
rejection of the article produced;
Prevention of breakages in the yarn and reduction of production waste;
Prevention of needles being broken as a consequence of the yarn breaking;
Full tension control and yarn feeding to the machine with possibility to
freely set the tolerance values (between the self-learned parameters and
those actually detected) depending on particular needs, on type of
manufacturing and on type of yarn used.

Installation
The installation of SMART KTF 2000 terminal simply consists in connecting the
terminal itself to the KTF/.. devices using a communication cable through which the
data exchange between terminal and devices will occur.
The following page show some connection examples of SMART KTF 2000 terminal
for application using KTF/100HP yarn feeding devices and KTF/RW systems
respectively.

Manual, the installation of KTF devices mainly depends on the electrical supply of the
devices themselves.
Electrical supply provided by BTSR KTF/PW4 power supply;
Electrical supply provided by external power supply through a flat cable.

Concerning all electrical systems, it is a suggested rule to ensure that the ground cable

SMART KTF 2000 Terminal Features
As in all SMART BTSR systems,the operation of SMART KTF 2000 system is
controlled by just 5 membrane buttons and it is monitored by a LCD graphic
display, which guides the operator through all programming and administration
phases of the system, by means of straight-forward messages which can be
understood clearly and immediately.
On the top left side of each button there is a red LED, which indicates that the
button is pressed down.
The display screen includes two separate zones used respectively for displaying
messages to the operator during the system programming and administration
phases and for signaling the operating status and levels in which the system is
working .
The following picture shows the location of the buttons and display zones that
constitute the control panel of the SMART KTF 2000 system.

1. ENTER button
It allows to activate the function selected from the menu (indicated by the
symbol >), to move to the programming of the displayed function or to confirm the
setting value displayed on the messages screen.
2. RESET button
It allows return to the previous level of the menu (next upper level), without
continuing with the currently selected function, or without confirming the value of
a setting entered by mistake.
3. NEXT CY button
During navigation within the menus this button allows selection of next option
in the same menu level; this button has a cyclical function in the sense that
when the last choice from the menu has been selected, it returns to the first
option of the same menu.
When alphanumeric data are entered (for instance the Article Name or Keycode
access), this button allows the increase of characters displayed where the cursor
is located, according to the following cyclic sequence:
When entering numeric data (for example the number of devices) it allows the
increase of numeric value of the field. If it is held down continuously the
numeric field increments more rapidly.
4. CONTROL Button
During parameter programming, it allows changing the position of the cursor.
5. REPEAT button
During navigation within the menus selection of the previous choice is allowed
while remaining inside the same menu level. This button has a cyclical function
in the sense that when the first choice of menu is selected it returns to the last
option of the same menu.
When alphanumeric data are entered (for instance the Article Name or Keycode
access), this button allows the decrease of the characters displayed where the
cursor is positioned, according to the following cyclic sequence:
When entering numeric data (for example the number of devices) it allows the
decrease of numeric value of the field. If it is held down continuously the
numeric field decrements more rapidly.

6. Operator’s Message Area:
The menu choices, or settings for the selected function during programming or
setup phase of the system as well as service messages are displayed with large size
fonts (1.5 x 0.8 cm), easy to read even from a distance, when the system is running
normally. In other words, it shows all the necessary information to guide the
operator step by step through the programming phase and interactive management
of the system.
When the displayed lines refer to the menu items, the selected one is indicated with
the symbol >.
The presence of a flashing cursor (---) indicates the position where the operator
can enter an alphanumeric character or variable setting which will replace the value
currently displayed.
Some functions of MEASUR menu use the Operator’s Message Area to display
real time graphical user information, particularly useful to detect values and
performance data related to the connected KTF/.. devices.
7. Operating Status Signaling Area
To enable a more direct and evident interpretation of the operating context in
which you are working, on the right hand side and bottom side of the operator
message area, 16 rectangular boxes (labels) are implemented. They display the
operating status of the system, and the hierarchic level of the menu at which you
are operating.
More specifically, the PROGRAM label indicates that you are operating in one of
the following modes: configuration, programming or data transmission to the
sensors.
The CONTROL label indicates that the system is operating normally with all
monitor functions enabled, and according to the parameters currently set in the
system. In this phase the message display indicates CONTROL OK.
The ERROR label indicates that an error has been detected during normal
operation of the system. In this case the Message area shows the type of error
detected (for further information please refer to Operations Sequences in this
chapter and to chapter 4 – Troubleshooting and Maintenance).
The WAIT Label indicates that an internal processing or a data communication
with the connected devices is in progress.
