Bestimmungsgemäßer Gebrauch
Diese Neutralelektroden sind zum Anschluss an HF-Chirurgiege-
räte und zur Applikation auf der Haut des Patienten bestimmt.
WARNUNG!
Sicherheitshinweise
Dieses Produkt darf nur von ausgebildetem medizinischen Perso-
nal, das anhand des Verwendungshinweises in dessen Gebrauch
eingewiesen wurde, verwendet werden.
Die Gummibinde zur Befestigung der Neutralelektrode enthält
Latex. Verwenden Sie die Gummibinde nicht bei Personen, die al-
lergisch auf Latex reagieren.
Die Isolation von Neutralelektrode, Kabel und Stecker vor der An-
wendung auf Beschädigung prüfen.
Keine schadhaften Neutralelektroden, Kabel oder Stecker ver-
wenden.
Die Neutralelektrode ist nicht steril.
ERBE Elektromedizin warnt ausdrücklich davor, die Neutralelek-
trode zu verändern, z.B. zu beschneiden. Jede Veränderung führt
zum Ausschluss der Haftung durch ERBE Elektromedizin.

Anwendungshinweise
Neutralelektroden sind Teil eines Sicherheitssystems. Die folgen-
den Anwendungshinweise sind daher gleichzeitig auch Sicher-
heitshinweise. Um den Patienten keine Verbrennungen
zuzufügen, sind diese strikt zu beachten.

Nur gereinigte und desinfizierte Produkte
verwenden
Produkt vor der ersten Anwendung und vor jeder Wiederanwen-
dung reinigen und desinfizieren.
Aussuchen eines geeigneten Applikationsortes
Applizieren Sie die Neutralelektrode möglichst nahe dem Opera-
tionsfeld. Bevorzugen Sie Oberschenkel oder Oberarm. Auf jeden
Fall muss der Applikationsort eine muskulöse oder gut durchblu-
tete konvexe Hautfläche sein.
Wenn der Patient einen Herzschrittmacher trägt, konsultieren Sie
vor der Operation mit einem HF-Chirurgiegerät unbedingt einen
Kardiologen! Die Neutralelektrode soll auf jeden Fall mit Rück-
sicht auf den Herzschrittmacher angebracht werden.
Die Neutralelektrode soll näher an der Eingriffsstelle sein als
EKG Elektroden.
Die Neutralelektrode darf nicht auf oder über folgenden Stellen
appliziert werden:
•aufNarben
• auf entzündeter Haut
• auf knochigen Körperstellen
• über metallischen Implantaten
• über massivem Unterhautfettgewebe
• über Kreuzbein, Hüfte, Gesäß, Schulterblatt
Vorbereitung des Applikationsortes
Rasieren Sie die gewählte Hautfläche. Säubern Sie die Hautfläche
sorgfältig (z. B. von Hautcremes). Trocknen Sie die Hautfläche.

Neutralelektrode anlegen
Beachten Sie zur Applikation der Neutralelektrode auch die Ab-
bildungen auf Seite 2 dieser Anleitung. Das Operationsgebiet ist
hier dunkelgrau hervorgehoben.
Richten Sie die lange Kante der Neutralelektrode in Richtung
Operationsfeld aus. Der Strom soll von der aktiven Elektrode (In-
strument) auf die lange Kante der Neutralelektrode zufließen.
Verwenden Sie kein Kontaktgel.
Legen Sie die Neutralelektrode vollflächig an, und fixieren Sie sie
mit der Gummibinde (Art.-Nr. 20592-009 oder 20592-011). Die
Gummibinde nicht so fest anziehen, dass es zu Durchblutungs-
mangel beim Patienten kommt.
Verwenden Sie ein passendes ERBE Anschlusskabel für Neutral-
elektroden (Bestell-Nummern siehe ERBE Zubehör-Katalog).
Gefahr ungewollter Gewebeschäden reduzieren
Vermeiden Sie lang dauernde Aktivierungen. Bei lang dauernden
Aktivierungen bzw. bei lang dauernden Aktivierungen, die dicht
aufeinander folgen, steigt die Temperatur unter der Neutralelekt-
rode. Es besteht die Gefahr ungewollter Gewebeschäden für den
Patienten. Sorgen Sie in diesem Fall für ausreichende Abküh-
lungsphasen ohne Aktivierung.
Wenn das HF-Chirurgiegerät nicht den gewünschten Effekt er-
zielt, überprüfen Sie immer zuerst die Neutralelektrode. Verge-
wissern Sie sich, dass die Neutralelektrode korrekt appliziert
wurde, der Hautkontakt noch vorhanden und die Verbindung zum
HF-Chirurgiegerät einwandfrei ist, bevor Sie Leistung oder Effekt
erhöhen.

Umlagerung des Patienten während der
Operation
Achten Sie darauf, dass sich die Neutralelektrode nicht von der
Haut löst.
Neutralelektroden für Kinder
Eignung, Beschränkungen
Die Neutralelektrode 20193-016 (klein 187 cm2) ist für Kinder
geeignet.
Setzen Sie diese Neutralelektroden keinesfalls für Eingriffe mit
hoher Leistung (z.B. einer transurethralen Resektion (TUR)) ein.
Wählen Sie immer die geringstmögliche Leistungseinstellung am
HF-Chirurgiegerät.
Besonderheiten
Verwenden Sie diese kleinflächigen Neutralelektroden nur bei Pa-
tienten, an denen größere Neutralelektroden nicht applizierbar
sind. Es sollen nur kleine elektrochirurgische Operationen durch-
geführt werden. Die Applikationsstelle während der Operation re-
gelmäßig kontrollieren!
Aussuchen eines geeigneten Applikationsortes
Wenn die Oberschenkel bzw. Oberarme von Kindern für die Ap-
plikation zu dünn sind, können Sie diese Neutralelektroden auch
am Körper applizieren.

Überwachung der Neutralelektrode durch
das HF-Chirurgiegerät
Sicherheitshinweise zur Applikation der Neutralelektrode finden
Sie auch in der Gebrauchsanweisung Ihres HF-Chirurgiegerätes.
Lesen Sie diese bitte.
HF-Chirurgiegeräte sind mit verschiedenen Sicherheitssystemen
zur Überwachung der Neutralelektrode (z.B. korrekte Applikati-
on, Kontakt zwischen Haut und Neutralelektrode) ausgestattet.
Machen Sie sich bitte mit den speziellen Eigenschaften des Si-
cherheitssystems Ihres HF-Chirurgiegerätes vertraut.
Bei diesen Neutralelektroden wird lediglich überwacht, ob die
Verbindung zwischen Neutralelektrode und HF-Chirurgiegerät
einwandfrei hergestellt ist. Sie erhalten keine Warnmeldung, falls
sich die Neutralelektrode löst oder die Applikationsrichtung
falsch gewählt wurde.
Reinigung und Desinfektion
ERBE empfiehlt eine Wisch- oder Sprühdesinfektion mit einem
geeigneten Desinfektionsmittel. Beachten Sie die Angaben des
Desinfektionsmittelherstellers zu Eignung und Konzentration.
Produkt unmittelbar nach Gebrauch mit Wasser abspülen und mit
einer alkalischen Reinigungslösung waschen.
Die Angaben des Herstellers des verwendeten Desinfektionsmit-
tels sind unbedingt einzuhalten!
Produkt bei einer Temperatur von max. 75 °C trocknen.

Intended use
These neutral electrodes are to be connected to electrosurgical
units and are to be applied on the skin of the patient.
WARNING!
Safety instructions
This product may be used only by trained medical staff, who have
been shown how to use it according to the instructions for use.
The rubber strap for fastening the neutral electrodes contains la-
tex. Do not use the rubber fastening for people allergic to latex.
Check the insulation on the return electrode, cable and plug for
damage before use.
Never use damaged return electrodes, cables or plugs.
The return electrode is not sterile.
ERBE Elektromedizin expressly warns against modifying or cut-
ting the neutral electrode. Any modification will invalidate liabil-
ity on the part of ERBE Elektromedizin.

How to use
Return electrodes are part of a safety system. The following in-
structions for use are therefore also safety instructions. They must
be strictly observed to prevent burns on the patient.
Only use cleaned and disinfected products
Clean and disinfect the product before using it for the first time
and before each subsequent use.

Selecting a suitable application site
Apply the return electrode as closely as possible to the surgical
field, preferably the thigh or upper arm. In any case, the applica-
tion site must be a convex skin surface which is either muscular or
has good circulation.
If the patient has a cardiac pacemaker, it is absolutely essential
that you consult a cardiologist before conducting an operation
with an HF surgical unit. The return electrode should always be
applied taking due account of the cardiac pacemaker.
The return electrode should be closer to the site of intervention
than ECG electrodes.
The return electrode must not be applied on or over the following
locations:
• on scars
• on inflamed skin
• on bony parts of the body
• over metal implants
• over severely adipose subcutaneous tissue
• over sacrum, hip, buttocks, shoulder blade
Preparing the application site
Shave the selected skin surface. Clean the skin thoroughly (e.g. of
skin lotions). Dry the skin surface.
Attaching the return electrode
Also observe the illustrations on page 2 of these instructions when
applying the neutral electrode. The operating area is highlighted in
dark gray.
Align the long edge of the return electrode towards the surgical
field. The current should flow from the active electrode (instru-
ment) to the long edge of the return electrode.

Do not use contact jelly.
Apply the entire surface of the neutral electrode and use the rubber
straps to fasten them (Art. No. 20592-009 or 20592-011). Do not
tighten the rubber straps so tight as to hinder blood circulation.
For neutral electrodes, use a matching ERBE connection cable
(order number, see ERBE accessories catalog).
Reducing the risk of accidental tissue damage
Avoid lengthy activations. The temperature increases under the
neutral electrode with lengthy activations or lengthy activations
one after another. The patient is at risk of accidental tissue dam-
age. In this case, make sure that there are sufficient cooling times
without activation.
If the electrosurgical unit does not achieve the desired effect, al-
ways check the neutral electrode first. Make sure that the neutral
electrode has been correctly applied, that there is still skin contact
and that the connection to the electrosurgical unit is good before
you increase power or effect.
Repositioning the patient during surgery
Make certain that the return electrode does not come off of the
skin.

Neutral electrodes for children
Suitability, restrictions
The neutral electrode 20193-016 (small 187 cm2) is suitable for
children.
Never use these neutral electrodes for operations with high power
(e.g. a transurethral resection of prostate (TUR)). Always choose
the lowest possible power setting on the electrosurgical unit.
Special considerations
Use these small return electrodes only for patients on whom larger
return electrodes cannot be applied. Only minor electrosurgical
operations should be performed. Check the application site regu-
larly during the operation.
Selecting a suitable application site
If the thighs or upper arms are too thin for application, the neutral
electrodes for children can also be applied on the body.
Monitoring of the return electrode by the
HF surgical unit
You will also find safety instructions regarding application of the
return electrode in the instruction manual of your HF surgical unit.
Please read them.
Electrosurgical units are equipped with various safety systems to
monitor the neutral electrode (e.g. correct application, contact be-
tween skin and neutral electrode). Please get familiar with the spe-
cial features of your electrosurgical unit's safety systems.

With these neutral electrodes, only the proper connection between
neutral electrode and electrosurgical unit is monitored. You will
not receive a warning if the neutral electrode becomes detached or
the application direction is incorrect.
Cleaning and disinfection
ERBE recommends wiping or spray disinfection with an appropri-
ate disinfectant. Comply with the disinfectant manufacturer's stip-
ulations as to its suitability and concentration.
Rinse the product with water immediately after use and wash it
with an alkaline cleaning solution
It is essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the dis-
infectant used!
Dry the product at a temperature of max. 75 °C.

Utilisation conforme
Ces électrodes neutres sont destinées à être connectées à des appa-
reils d'électrochirurgie H.F. et appliquées sur la peau du patient.
AVERTISSEMENT !
Consignes de sécurité
Ce produit ne doit être utilisé que par un personnel médical com-
pétent qui a été formé pour utiliser ce produit conformément aux
instructions d'utilisation.
La bande élastique de fixation de l'électrode neutre contient du la-
tex. Ne pas l'utiliser chez les personnes allergiques au latex.
Avant application, vérifier le bon état de l’isolation de l’électrode
neutre, du câble et de la fiche.
Ne pas utiliser d’électrodes neutres, câbles ou fiches endomma-
gés.
L'électrode neutre n'est pas stérile.
Mise en garde expresse d'ERBE Elektromedizin : ne pas modifier
l'électrode neutre, par exemple la découper. ERBE Elektromedi-
zin GmbH décline toute responsabilité pour toute modification.

Utiliser uniquement des produits nettoyés et
désinfectés
Nettoyer et désinfecter le produit avant la première utilisation et
avant chaque réutilisation.
Rechercher la zone d’application qui convient
Appliquer l’électrode neutre le plus près possible du champ opé-
ratoire, de préférence sur la cuisse ou le bras. Dans tous les cas,
choisir une surface convexe musculaire ou bien vascularisée.
Si le patient porte un stimulateur cardiaque, consulter impérative-
ment un cardiologue avant de procéder à l'opération avec un bis-
touri H.F. L'application de l'électrode neutre doit toujours tenir
compte du stimulateur cardiaque.
L'électrode neutre doit être plus proche du site de l'intervention
que les électrodes d'électrocardiogramme.
Il est déconseillé d’appliquer l’électrode neutre sur ou au-dessus
des zones suivantes :
• sur des cicatrices
• sur une peau inflammatoire
• sur des parties osseuses du corps
• au-dessus d'implants métalliques
• au-dessus de tissus adipeux sous-cutanés importants
• au-dessus du sacrum, des hanches, des fesses, de l'omoplate
Préparation de la zone d’application
Raser la surface de peau choisie. Nettoyer la surface de peau avec
soin (enlever p. ex. des crèmes pour la peau). Sécher la surface de
peau.

Appliquer l’électrode neutre
Pour l'application de l'électrode neutre, voir aussi les illustrations
à la page 2 de ce mode d'emploi. La zone de l'intervention est in-
diquée sur ces illustations en gris foncé.
Aligner le côté long de l’électrode neutre dans le sens du champ
opératoire. Le courant doit circuler de l’électrode active (instru-
ment) vers le côté long de l’électrode neutre.
Ne pas utiliser de gel de contact.
Appliquer l'électrode neutre de manière que toute sa surface soit
en contact avec la peau et la fixer au moyen de la bande élastique
(réf. 20592-009 ou 20592-011). Ne pas trop serrer la bande élasti-
que pour ne pas empêcher le sang de circuler.
Utiliser un câble de connexion ERBE approprié pour électrodes
neutres (voir les références des articles dans le catalogue des ac-
cessoires ERBE).
Réduire le risque de lésion accidentelle des
tissus
Éviter les activations prolongées. Si les activations durent long-
temps ou si des activations de longue durée se succèdent à des in-
tervalles très courts, la température sous l'électrode neutre
augmente. Dans ce cas, il y a un risque de lésion des tissus pour
le patient. Il y a donc lieu de veiller à ce qu'il y ait des phases de
refroidissement suffisantes, sans activation.
Si l'appareil d'électrochirurgie H.F. ne produit pas l'effet souhaité,
toujours vérifier d'abord l'électrode neutre. Avant d'augmenter la
puissance ou l'effet, s'assurer que l'électrode neutre a été correcte-
ment appliquée, qu'elle est encore en contact avec la peau et que
la connexion avec l'appareil d'électrochirurgie H.F. est bonne.

Déplacement du patient pendant l’opération
Veiller à ce que l’électrode neutre ne se détache pas de la peau.
Électrodes neutres pour enfants
Utilisation, limitations
L'électrode neutre 20193-016 (petit modèle, 187 cm2) convient
pour les enfants.
N'utiliser en aucun cas ces électrodes neutres pour les interven-
tions à puissance élevée (par exemple, résection transuréthrale
[RTU]). Toujours sélectionner la puissance la plus petite possible
sur l'appareil d'électrochirurgie H.F.
Particularités
N’utiliser les électrodes neutres petit modèle que sur les patients
sur lesquels les électrodes grand modèle ne peuvent être appli-
quées. Seules des opérations électrochirurgicales mineures peu-
vent être réalisées. Vérifier régulièrement la zone d’application
pendant l’opération !
Rechercher la zone d’application qui convient
Si la cuisse ou le bras de l'enfant sont trop minces pour l'électrode
neutre, vous pouvez l'appliquer sur le corps.

Surveillance de l'électrode neutre par
l'appareil d'électrochirurgie H. F.
On trouvera également des consignes de sécurité concernant l'ap-
plication de l'électrode neutre dans le manuel d'utilisation de l'ap-
pareil d'électrochirurgie H.F. Le lire sans faute.
Les appareils d'électrochirurgie H.F. sont équipés de différents
dispositifs de sécurité pour la surveillance de l'électrode neutre (p.
ex., application correcte, contact entre la peau et l'électrode neu-
tre). Veuillez s'il vous plaît vous familiariser avec les propriétés
particulières du dispositif de sécurité de votre appareil d'électro-
chirurgie H.F.
Dans le cas de ces électrodes neutres, il vérifie uniquement si
l'électrode neutre est correctement connectée à l'appareil d'électro-
chirurgie H.F. Il n'y a pas de signal d'avertissement si l'électrode
neutre se détache ou si elle n'a pas été appliquée dans le bon sens.
Nettoyage et désinfection
ERBE recommande de désinfecter l’appareil par essuyage ou va-
porisation avec un désinfectant approprié. Pour savoir si le désin-
fectant est approprié et connaître la concentration à utiliser, suivre
les indications du fabricant du désinfectant.
Immédiatement après utilisation, laver le produit avec de l’eau et
une solution de lavage alcaline.
Respecter impérativement les instructions du fabricant du produit
de désinfection utilisé.
Sécher le produit à une température n’excédant pas 75 °C.
