Special safety instructions.
Hold power tool by insulated gripping sur-
faces, because the belt may contact its own
cord. Cutting a “live” wire may make exposed
metal parts of the power tool “live” and could
give the operator an electric shock.
Wear personal protective equipment. Depend-
ing on application, use face shield, safety
goggles or safety glasses. Where appropriate,
wear dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves
and workshop apron capable of stopping
small abrasive or workpiece fragments. The
safety glasses must be capable of protecting
against flying particles generated by the vari-
ous operations. Prolonged exposure to high
intensity noise may cause loss of hearing.
While working, do not wear loose clothing,
jewellery or open, long hair. Despite protec-
tive devices, loose objects can be snagged or
caught by moving parts and lead to injury.
Do not use worn, torn or heavily clogged
grinding belts. Handle grinding belts carefully
and store them according to the manufac-
turer’s instructions. Do not bend or fold grind-
ing belts! Damaged grinding belts can tear, be
flung away and injure someone.
Never touch the running grinding belt and do
not reach under the protective guard. Danger
of injury.
Always use the protective devices attached on
the machine. The protective devices must be
securely mounted to the machine in order to
achieve maximum safety. The protective
devices are supposed to protect the user from
grinding particles thrown from the machine
and from accidental contact with the grinding
belt.
Warning! Danger of fire and explosion! When
grinding metals (e.g., aluminium or magne-
sium), dust develops that may be combustible
or explosive. Do not operate the machine near
flammable materials. Sparks could cause
these materials to ignite.
Pay attention that other persons are not put at
risk from sparking. Remove flammable mate-
rials in close vicinity. Sparking occurs when
grinding metal.
Secure the work piece firmly. A work piece
that is gripped tightly in a clamping device or
vice, is more secure than if held by hand.
The surface being worked can become very
hot. Do not touch it with your hands.
Keep bystanders a safe distance away from
work area. Anyone entering the work area
must wear personal protective equipment.
Fragments of workpiece or of a broken acces-
sory may fly away and cause injury beyond
immediate area of operation.
Keep the power cord away from the grinding
belt. When losing control over the machine,
the power cord can be cut through or get
caught, and your hand or arm can come in
contact with the grinding belt.
Never lay the power tool down until the grind-
ing belt has come to a complete stop. The
grinding belt can come into contact with the
surface, causing you to lose control over the
power tool.
Do not run the power tool while carrying it at
your side. Your clothing may get caught
through accidental contact with the grinding
belt and cause injuries.
Make sure that the grinding belt is mounted in
accordance with FEIN's instructions. Mounted
grinding belts must be able to rotate freely.
Incorrectly mounted grinding belts can
become loose during operation and be
thrown from the machine.
Do not direct the power tool against yourself,
other persons or animals. Danger of injury
from sharp grinding belts.
Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and
position your body and arms to allow you to
resist kickback forces. Always use both auxil-
iary handles for maximum control over kick-
back or torque reaction during start-up. The
operator can control torque reactions or
kickback forces, if proper precautions are
taken.
Never place your hand near rotating applica-
tion tools. The application tool may over your
hand during kickback and lead to injury.
If operating the power tool in a damp location,
it must be connected via a ground-fault cir-
cuit interrupter (GFCI). Using special rubber
protective gloves and footwear increase your
own safety.
