Description
The Greenlee 6701 voltage tester is intended to indicate AC and DC voltage, locate hot
conductors, and verify continuity. The tester requires no batteries - power is supplied by the
unit to be tested. As an added safety feature, the unit has a stow-away lead.
Safety
Safety is essential in the use and maintenance of Greenlee tools and equipment. This
instruction manual and any markings on the tool provide information for avoiding hazards and
unsafe practices related to the use of this tool. Observe all of the safety information provided.
Purpose
This instruction manual is intended to familiarize all personnel with the safe operation and
maintenance procedures for the Greenlee 6701 voltage tester.
Keep this manual available to all personnel.

Unless measuring voltage, shut off and lock out power. Make sure that all capacitors
are discharged. Voltage must not be present.
Using this unit near equipment that generates electromagnetic interference can result
in unstable or inaccurate readings.

Operation
This unit does not have a battery - it has an internal circuit that can store a charge. The power
to charge the unit comes from an external circuit with a known voltage of 100 volts or more.
The charge time is a minimum of 5 seconds.
• To prevent a false reading when locating a hot conductor, charge the unit first by connecting
the probes to the circuit.
• To prevent tripping a GFCI, charge the unit first by connecting the probes between hot and
neutral. Then connect the probes between hot and ground.

3. Test the unit on a known functioning circuit or component. If the unit does not function as
expected, send the unit to Greenlee for repair.
4. Take the reading from the unit to be tested. The LED’s illuminate as follows:

Descripción
El Verificador de tensión, modelo 6701 de Greenlee está diseñado para indicar tensión alterna y
continua, localizar conductores cargados y verificar continuidad. Este verificador no necesita

Operación
Esta unidad no necesita pilas – cuenta con un circuito interno que puede almacenar una carga.
La energía para cargar la unidad proviene de un circuito externo con una tensión conocida de
100 voltios o más. El tiempo de carga es de 5 segundos como mínimo.
• A fin de evitar una lectura falsa al localizar un conductor cargado, cargue primero la unidad
conectando las sondas al circuito.
• A fin de evitar el accionamiento accidental de un interruptor de circuito con falla a tierra
(GFCI), cargue primero la unidad conectando las sondas entre un punto cargado y uno neutro.
Enseguida conecte las sondas entre un punto cargado y una conexión a tierra.

2. Véase la “Tabla de verificación” en relación con las instrucciones para efectuar
verificaciones.
3. Pruebe la unidad en un circuito o componente que se sabe está funcionando perfectamente.
Si el medidor sigue sin funcionar como debería, devuélvalo a Greenlee a fin de que sea
reparado.
4. Anote la lectura de la unidad que se está verificando. Los LED se iluminarán de la siguiente
