Chapter 1. Introduction
This Hardware Service Guide contains information to help you solve problems that might occur in your
IBM®SureMark™4610 Model 1NF fiscal and fiscal ready point-of-sale (POS) printers and the IBM
developed fiscal solution. It describes the diagnostic tools that are available, error codes and suggested
actions, and instructions for replacing failing components.
For information on solving problems that might occur on country specific fiscal solutions developed by IBM
business partners, see the documentation that came with the country specific fiscal solution.
Note: Additional information for the 4610 fiscal ready printer and country specific fiscal information can be
found in Appendix A, “1NF fiscal ready printer,” on page 69 and Appendix B, “Country specific
information,” on page 77.

This guide is intended for use by personnel who are installing and using the IBM SureMark 4610 Model
1NF single-station printer.

Calling for service
Before calling for service you will need the machine type, model number, and serial number of the printer.
If a fiscal subassembly is installed you will also need the fiscal serial number and other country specific
information from the label attached to fiscal subassembly. To locate the labels see “Printer information
label” on page 3and “fiscal label” on page 4.

Printer information label
The printer information labels A (Figure 1) are located beside the power button on the inside of the
printer and the on the front right edge of the main cover.
Note: You can find the fiscal serial number and other country specific identification information on a label
on the Fiscal logic assembly (see “fiscal label” on page 4 for information).

Fiscal logic assembly, ports, and power
A fiscal logic assembly provides communication with the SureMark Model 1NF single-station printers,
system unit, and other devices. This section provides information about the fiscal logic assembly and fiscal
ready logic assembly.
IBM fiscal logic assembly
The IBM fiscal logic assembly consists of a tray, optional keylock, covers, fiscal fiscal screw, connectors,
and ports. This section provides an illustration and text describing the parts of the IBM fiscal logic
assembly.
