2 General
2.1 Preface
Please read these operating instructions before commissioning the
instrument. Keep the manual in a place that is accessible to all users at all
times.
2.2 Safety notes
This device has been built and tested in accordance with the safety
regulations for electrical instruments. Please observe the generally applicable
safety precautions and the device-specific safety notes in these operating
instructions.
Do not operate the instrument with a faulty power supply!
In such a case, hazardous voltages may appear on the terminals of the
instrument.
If it appears that the instrument can no longer be operated without hazard, then
it must be put out of action and labeled to prevent it being used again.
The instrument should then be returned to the manufacturer for repair.
Do not use this instrument in safety or emergency stop installations, or in
applications where a malfunction of the device could lead to injury to
personnel or significant material damage!
Please do not attach any equipment to socket 20, see Chapter 2.5
“Connections”, page 9 !
Correct functioning and operational reliability of the instrument will only be
assured when the permissible climatic conditions are observed (see Chapter 9
“Technical data”, page 30).
If the instrument is moved from a cold environment into warm surroundings,
then this may lead to condensation within the instrument. In this case, wait until
the instrument temperature has adjusted to the temperature of the
surroundings before proceeding with commissioning. Otherwise the
functioning of the instrument may be impaired.
For operation from the electrical supply, use only regulated power supplies
with an output voltage of 10.5 to 12 V.
If a sensor or sensor cable is faulty, or the sockets on the instrument are dirty
or damp, then the hand-held meter will display incorrect values!

2.3 Display
(1) Main display:
pH value, redox value (mV, mVH), rH value or operator prompting.
(2) Display elements to represent
minimum / maximum / stored measurement (HOLD).
(3) Display of the unit of measurement.
(4) Warning signal:
to indicate a low battery or need for recalibration.
(5) ATC arrow:
in the operating modes “pH”, “mVH” or “rH”, this indicates that the
temperature sensor is connected and the automatic temperature
compensation is active.
(6) OK arrow:
this indicates that the measurement was stable for a sufficiently long time.
(7) CAL arrow:
in “pH” operation, this indicates that the instrument is in calibration mode.
(8) Subsidiary display:
Temperature measurement or operator prompting.

2.5 Connections
The connection for the power supply can be found on the left side on the
hand-held meter.
(20) This socket has no function. Please do not connect any equipment here.
(21) BNC socket:
Connection for pH or redox combination electrode.
(22) Mini-DIN socket:
Connection for a Pt100 temperature sensor (4-wire connection).
A 2-wire connection is possible, but there will be an additional
measurement error, depending on the lead length.

pH: pH measurement with a pH combination electrode.
mV: Redox measurement with a redox combination electrode.
mVHAs for mV. The indicated value is converted to the standard hydrogen
system, temperature-independent (DIN 38 404). This requires the
connection of the temperature sensor (ATC) or a manual temperature
entry.
rH The rH value is calculated from the measured pH, redox and
temperature values. The pH and temperature values can alternatively be
entered by hand.
thEr Temperature measurement with a Pt100 temperature sensor.
The main display shows the present temperature.
After pressing the key, with the or key, the subsidiary
display can show the Min or Max value, or the present measured value.

3.7 Manual temperature setting for operation without a
temperature sensor
For precise measurement of pH, mVHor rH, the hand-held meter must know
the temperature of the medium being measured.
The ideal solution is temperature measurement by a Pt100 temperature sensor
connected to the hand-held meter. The temperature sensor is detected as
soon as it is connected, and its signal is automatically taken into account for
calculating the measured value (ATC: automatic temperature compensation).
If no Pt100 temperature sensor is available, the temperature can be entered by
hand.
✱Briefly press the key.
✱Use the or key to set the temperature for the measured medium.
✱Confirm the entry with the key.
3.8 Manual pH setting for the rH measurement function
For exact measurement of rH, the hand-held meter must know the
temperature and pH of the medium being measured. The hand-held meter can
also measure the rH value for a liquid when the temperature and pH values are
entered manually.
✱Start configuration.
✱Select the parameter “rH”.
✱Briefly press the key.
The hand-held meter expects a manual temperature entry, see above.
✱Briefly press the key again.
The hand-held meter expects a manual pH entry.

4 Calibrating a pH combination electrode
The parameters of pH combination electrodes are subject to large variations
due to age and individual variations.
It is therefore advisable to check the calibration of combination electrodes
before making measurements. If the deviation is outside the permissible
tolerance, then the combination electrode must be recalibrated.
Calibration requires buffer solutions that have a precise pH value.
A buffer solution from the
- standard series (4.00 pH, 7.00 pH) JUMO standard buffer solutions
- DIN series (1.68 pH (A), 4.01 pH (C), 6.87 pH (D), 9.18 pH (F)
and 12.45 pH (G))
- or any other buffer (neutral buffer in the range 6.5 to 7.5 pH)
can be used.
4.1 Preparation
✱Select the measurement function “pH”, see Chapter 3.1 “Select
measurement function: pH/redox mV/redox mVH/rH/thEr”, page 10.
✱Activate 2- or 3-point calibration (2-point calibration is standard), see
Chapter 3.2 “Select 2- or 3-point calibration (only for pH measurement)”,
page 11.
✱Carefully remove the protective cap from the pH combination electrode (the
protective cap contains 3-mol KCl).
✱Rinse the combination electrode and the temperature sensor (if present)
with de-ionized (distilled) water and dry off.
Buffer solutions have a limited usable life that is, for instance, seriously
reduced by inadequate rinsing and drying of the combination electrode when
changing solutions. This can lead to calibration errors! Use the freshest
possible solutions for calibration. Rinse with de-ionized or distilled water!
Automatic temperature compensation during calibration
The signal from the pH combination electrode and the pH buffer are both
temperature-dependent. A Pt100 temperature sensor (option) connected to the
hand-held meter will automatically compensate for temperature effects.
If a temperature sensor is not available, then the actual temperature of the
buffer that is being used should be entered as accurately as possible, see
Chapter 3.7 “Manual temperature setting for operation without a temperature
sensor”, page 13.
If the standard buffer series or the DIN buffer series is used, then the
temperature effects on the buffer will also be compensated.
If manual buffers are chosen, then the pH value of the buffer at the present
temperature must be entered.
