IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
READ AND SAVE FOR THE
CONSUMER
WARNING: Risk of scalding or other severe injury.
•Before completing installation, the installer must set the
maximum water temperature setting of this valve to minimize the
risks associated with scalding hazards according to ASTM F 444.
•Do not install a shut-off device on either outlet of this valve. The
installation of any such device may create a cross-flow condition
at the valve and affect the water temperature.
•Factors that change the temperature of the water supplied to the
valve, such as seasonal water temperature changes, and water
heater replacement or servicing, will change the maximum water
temperature supplied by the valve and may create a scalding
hazard.
•The pressure-balanced valve will not compensate for changes in
the water supply temperature; adjust the maximum water
temperature setting of this pressure-balanced valve when such
changes occur.
•Pressure-balanced valves may not provide protection against
scalding if there is a failure of other temperature-limiting devices
elsewhere in the plumbing system.
The installer is responsible for installing the valve and adjusting the
maximum water temperature of this pressure-balanced valve
according to instructions.
This valve meets or exceeds ANSI A112.18.1 and ASSE 1016.

adjustment instructions in this document, in the United States please

Before You Begin
IMPORTANT! This instruction provides installation information for
two faucet models. Be sure to follow the steps that apply to your
installation.
Please read all instructions before you begin.
Observe all local plumbing and building codes.
Shut off the main water supply.
The K-1099 uses two valves, one for the bath fill, and another for
the shower. Pay special attention to this feature when planning
your site preparation.
Avoid excessive heat if you solder connections to prevent damage
to the fitting.
Flush all piping thoroughly before installing the valve(s).
Do not force the handle(s) in any direction. To turn the valve off,
gently turn it to the ″Off″position.
For the K-1099, do not use any plastic pipe between the valve and
the spout.

Before You Begin (cont.)
Do not connect a deck-mount spout, diverter, or handshower to
the spout outlet unless you cap the shower outlet on the valve.
Install a pipe or tube in a straight drop of 7” (17.8 cm) to 18”
(45.7 cm) with only one elbow between the valve and the
wall-mounted spout. Other types of installation may cause
unsatisfactory shower performance.

2. Install the Support Framing

3. Installing the Yoke
All Installations
Install elbows and adapters (if used) onto 1/2″copper tubing or
1/2″pipe of proper length.
Connect the piping to the bath yoke outlet.
Secure the tubing to the framing.
Install a temporary 1/2″nipple into the bath ell, and if applicable,
the shower ell. The nipple should extend at least 2″(5.1 cm)
beyond the finished wall.

Apply thread sealant to the plug threads and install the plug in
the shower outlet.

4. Install the Yoke - Ceiling Installations
IMPORTANT! Perform these steps for ceiling installations only.
The faucet fitting is factory assembled specifically for hot and
cold water supplies from the floor.
If installing the faucet for ceiling supplies, turn the yoke over so
the supplies connect from the top.
Remove the aspirator with a 3/8” hex wrench.
For the K-1098, reinstall the aspirator at the top of the yoke. Do
not overtighten. For the K-1099, discard the aspirator.
Reversing the yoke for ceiling supplies reverses the direction the
lever handles close.
For proper operation, reverse the ceramic valves.
Open the valve before removing it.
Tighten the valves securely.
If you are installing K-1099, proceed to the next section.

5. Installing the Valve - K-1099
CAUTION: Risk of product damage. The valve body contains
plastic components. Remove the stop nut and stem assembly,
valve cap, and pressure balancing unit before you apply
soldering heat to the valve body.
IMPORTANT! Use thread sealant on all threaded connections.
Carefully remove the stop nut and stem assembly, valve cap,
collar, and pressure balancing unit before you apply soldering
heat to the valve body.
Rotate the valve fully counterclockwise.
If the valve has stops, rotate both stop adjustments fully
counterclockwise.
Install elbows and adapters (if used) to 1/2″copper tubing or
1/2″pipe of proper length.
Secure the tubing to the framing.
Install a temporary 1/2″nipple into the shower ell to extend at
least 2″(5.1 cm) beyond the finished wall.
Use thread sealant, and install a pipe cap on the bath outlet.

6. Complete Valve Installation - K-1099
CAUTION: Risk of product damage. The valve body contains
plastic components. Remove the stop nut and stem assembly,
valve cap, and pressure balancing unit before you apply
soldering heat to the valve body.
NOTE: If the valve is to be installed in a two valve, back-to- back
configuration, proceed to the ″Back-to-Back Installation″section.
IMPORTANT! Use thread sealant on all threaded connections.
Connect the water supplies to the valve body using elbows, 1/2”
copper tubing or pipe, and adapters (if needed).
Secure the piping to the framing.
Temporarily install 1/2” nipples to the bath and shower elbows
so they will extend at least 2” (5.1 cm) beyond the finished wall.
If you removed the inner valve components for soldering,
carefully reinstall them now.
