Liko Vest for StandingShell Manual

Product Description
This instruction guide is valid for Liko Vest for
StandingShell and TeddyVest for StandingShell, but in
the following text we will only use the name Liko Vest
for StandingShell.
The Vest for StandingShell has been developed by
Liko as a special aid for raising a patient who stands
with the aid of a so-called standing shell. Liko Vest for
StandingShell is designed for lifting the patient and
standing shell together in a special way, independent
of the design of the standing shell; i.e., no xtures or
alterations to the standing shell are required.
The accompanying Leg Harness is applied around
the crotch as an extra safety feature that prevents the
Vest for StandingShell from sliding up.
Once standing, the patient can stand in a standing
frame for the shell or in a standing wheelchair.
Liko Vest for StandingShell in size XS and S are
made of a Teddy bear patterned polyester fabric
and this is why these slings are called TeddyVest for
StandingShell. Vest for StandingShell in size M is
made of green polyester.
The Vest for StandingShell is intended for use with
Liko’s overhead lifts or our Golvo mobile lift. In some
cases, a combination with Uno or Viking may work
well.
For lifting the patient to and from the standing shell,
an appropriate sling is selected according to the
patient’s condition and need for support. In these
instructions, we describe lifting with the help of Liko
SilhouetteSling, a thin and pliable sling that provides
support for the whole body.
Visit our website, www.liko.com, for information and
news about Liko’s entire product range.
“Caution!” triangles are used to warn of situations that demand extra care and attention.
In this document, the person being lifted is referred to as the ”patient” and the person helping them is referred to
as the ”caregiver”.
Before using lifts and lifting accessories, read the instructions for both the sling and the lift that will
be used. Instruction guides can be downloaded, free of charge, at www.liko.com.

Before lifting, remember the following!
• The need for one or more caregivers must be determined
from case to case.
• Ensure that the sling selected meets the patient’s needs
with reference to model, size, fabric and design.
• For safety and hygiene reasons, use individual slings.
• Before lifting, plan the lifting operation so that it can be
done as safely and smoothly as possible.
• Before lifting, check that the lifting accessory hangs
vertically and can move freely.
• Although Liko’s sling bars are equipped with latches,
particular care should be taken. Before the patient is lifted
from the underlying surface, but after the straps have
beenfully extended, make sure the straps are properly
hooked to the sling bar.
• Never lift a patient higher above the underlying surface
than is necessary for the lifting and transfer procedure.
• Make sure the patient is sitting securely in the sling before
transferring to another location.
• Never leave a patient unattended during a lifting situation.
• Make sure the wheels on the wheelchair, bed, gurney, etc.
are locked during the lifting/transfer operation.
• Always work ergonomically.

Procedure
Lay the Vest for StandingShell on the oor and place
the standing shell on top of the vest, so that its upper
edge is slightly higher than the standing shell’s upper
edge. Pull the leg harnesses forward, so that they are
accessible between the leg sections of the standing
shell.
Lower the patient in such a way that his/her feet and
legs will be correctly positioned in the standing shell.
Continue lowering carefully until the patient is lying at,
ensuring that he/she has the necessary head support.
Fasten the standing shell around the patient according
to the instructions.
If appropriate, the sling can be left on the patient, but the leg supports should be adjusted so as not to cause
inconvenience or discomfort.
Take hold of the loop straps, cross them and pass one through each metal D-ring.
Connect leg harness fasteners and adjust leg harness length.

Hang the selected loop strap loops on the sling bar hooks (see Guidelines for Fitting, below), then hook on the support
straps and run the lift up until the straps are extended. Check to ensure that the support straps can move freely over the
loop straps during continued raising of the lift.
Continue raising, holding the patient’s hands in front
of the body if necessary. Make sure there is adequate
head support and that the support straps can move
freely in the sling bar hooks. Adjust leg harness tension
if necessary, e.g., if the vest tends to slide upwards.
In the upright position, the patient should be secured,
in a standing frame or at a standing table. If necessary,
unhook the loops of the Vest for StandingShell from the
sling bar.
After completing standing training, the patient is lowered
and lifted back to, for example, the wheelchair, in the
reverse order.
Guidelines for Fitting
When the vest is applied around the patient and the standing
shell, and the loop straps have been tted as described above,
the loop straps should reach up to the highest point of the support
straps when all straps are fully extended.
Select the loop that corresponds to the length of the support strap.
If in doubt, choose the loop whose upper end is immediately
below the highest point of the support strap.

Loop clips
This practical accessory is used to mark the loops that have been
tried out for a certain person. It makes it easier for the caregivers to
choose the right loop to attach to the sling bar.
Padded cases for the front support straps are available as an
accessory. These are ideal for patients who are sensitive to
pressure from the straps.
Padded cases are equipped with a velcro strip along one side
for easy application.
