System Start-Up Information
1. Do not vacuum anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes,
matches, hot ashes, or any hot substance!
2. Do not vacuum (or use this cyclone near) ammable or combustible
liquids, gases, or explosive dusts, such as gasoline or other fuels,
lighter uid, cleaners, oil-based paints, natural gas, hydrogen, coal dust,
magnesium dust, grain dust, aluminum dust, sugar dust, our dust or
gun powder.
3. To reduce the risk of health hazards from vapors or dusts, do not
vacuum toxic materials unless a HEPA lter is used. Do not use or store
near hazardous materials.
4. Dust can be ammable and explosive. Some dust can be toxic or cause
allergic reactions.
5. Wood dust mixtures are highly ammable and can be explosive.
NEVER introduce sparks or sources of ignition into collector.

Arrange the Dolly Legs (F) in a descending stack as shown
in [FIG. 1a] and [FIG. 1b].

Note: Due to a variety of factors associated with the molding process,
the base of the Dust Deputy 2.5 cyclone may appear warped rather
than perfectly at. is is normal and does not impact performance
as long as the cyclone is installed according to these instructions.

Secure Dolly Legs (F) together using three Bolts (G) and
three Whiz-Lock Nuts (H) as shown in [FIG. 2a] and [FIG.
2b].

Thread each of the six Casters (J3) through the Dolly Leg
Assembly (F) and a Retainer Clip (I). Secure together
using six Nylock Nuts (J1) [FIG. 3a] [FIG. 3b].
Note: For ease of assembly, hardware should be nger
tightened when connecting the Drum (D).

Place the Drum (E) onto the Assembled Dolly [FIG. 4a],
then slide the Retainer Clips (I) into position over the
bottom lip of the drum to securely hold the container in
place. [FIG. 4b] Start by tightening two opposing Nylock
Nuts (J1) until the lip of the drum is fully secured. [FIG.
4c] Then repeat the process for the next two opposing pairs,
making sure that the drum is centered as you go.

Turn Cyclone (A) upside-down. Place Gasket (B) on the
base of the Cyclone and the topside of the Lid (D) against
Gasket (B) and align all the holes. Secure Cyclone, Gasket,
and Lid together using six Bolts (C1), six Washers (C2), and
six Whiz-Lock Nuts (C3) as shown in [FIG. 5].
Note: oroughly tighten hardware to eliminate air leaks.

Put Cyclone and Lid assembly (A, D) on top of your Drum
(E). Close the Drum using the provided clamp and seal it
airtight.[FIG. 6].

Connect the Cyclone's (A) inlet (sideways facing port)
to your dust producing tool with your vacuum's hose or
ductwork. Connect the Cyclone's outlet (upwards facing
port) to your vacuum with Hose (L) [FIG. 7].

Make sure there are no air leaks at the connections. Review
[FIG. 8] for common leak points.
Note: Any air leak in the Lid (D) or Drum (E) will aect
separation performance. Make sure to check your dust drum
frequently so you do not overll it.

Optional Grounding Instructions
Recommended for fine dust situations or electronically
sensitive applications.
Install the Metal Tape (K) to the Cyclone (A) so that the
inlet, outlet, and ange are attached by a continuous,
conductive path. e tape should wrap 1/4" around the edge
of each opening [FIG 9].

Optional Grounding Instructions
For added grounding, attach a self-supplied wire with a
ring terminal on one end and a washer tied to the other end
when installing one of the bolts in Step 5 on Page 10. e
wire must be long enough for the washer to lie on the oor
[FIG 10].

Troubleshooting

FAQ
Does the 2.5 have the same ange pattern as the original
Dust Deputy?
Yes! Both the original Dust Deputy cyclone and the new Dust
Deputy 2.5 cyclone share the same bottom ange pattern. is
makes upgrading existing cyclone installations quick and easy!

Can I use this cyclone with smoldering or abrasive debris?
No. is cyclone is designed for use with light debris such as wood
dust. For applications with highly abrasive or smoldering materials,
we recommend our steel, Heavy-Duty Dust Deputy kits instead.
Does the Dust Deputy work with water?
e Dust Deputy can be used with nearly any wet or dry material to
cyclonically separate waste from the air stream.
What is an anti-static material?
is term refers to the range of conductivity that a material has.
Anti-static materials range from 1010-1012 Ohms.
Is it possible to buy just the waste bin?
e waste bin is not available as a standalone item, but if you are
an existing owner of the Dust Deputy then we can readily oer you
a replacement for any damaged components. Please contact our
service department to order.

FAQ (Continued)
How does the Dust Deputy 2.5 get more airow than smaller
cyclones?
e Dust Deputy 2.5 has a larger diameter inlet and outlet to
increase ow, and a larger overall size to reduce friction relative to
the volume of air passing through. Less friction means less pressure
drop and increased ow. Put another way, assuming equal pressure,
a lot more water will pass through a 3/4” hose than a 1/2" hose –
simply because there’s more room for the water to pass through.
e larger dimensions of the Dust Deputy 2.5 have a similar eect
on airow.
Can I use this upstream of a 650 CFM single stage dust
collector?
No. e smaller Dust Deputy cyclone is intended for use with
HIGH pressure and LOW airow systems, such as wet/dry
vacuums, with port sizes 2.5" diameter and smaller. It would not
be suitable for a HIGH airow, LOW pressure system (i.e. dust
collector).
You would want to look at our line of Super Dust Deputy cyclones
instead. Match the cyclone based on the size of your dust collector's
intake.
Can I use the Dust Deputy with my 4" hose / port?
No. e standard Dust Deputy cyclones are designed for use with
ports/hose that are 1" to 3" in diameter.
Connecting 4" tools to the Dust Deputy cyclone's 2" ports will
result in signicant losses in airow and suction power. Larger
ports (4" and larger) will instead require one of our Super Dust
Deputy cyclones.

Will the Dust Deputy cyclone work if my tool has its own fan
blower?
In most cases, yes - but the cyclone's eciency will vary based on
whether your vacuum is also turned on.
e Dust Deputy cyclone needs a consistent airow rate to "spin"
the dust out of the airstream; If your tool's fan blower is pushing air
in while your vacuum is also sucking air out, this can disrupt the
airow rate and reduce the cyclone's separation performance.
In many cases, the fan blower on tools (such as planers) cannot be
turned o. If that is the case for you, try collecting your dust with
the vacuum turned o. In doing so you will be creating a positive
pressure system as the tool's fan blower pushes air through the Dust
Deputy cyclone. is method may not work with every vacuum.
What's the CFM range for the Dust Deputy 2.5?
Rather than worrying about what specs your vacuum needs (e.g. air
watts, cfm, static li, etc.), we at Oneida Air Systems have a much
simpler approach - simply match the size of your vacuum's inlet to
the size of the Dust Deputy cyclone's ports.
e Dust Deputy 2.5 is designed specically for any wet/dry
vacuum that comes with 2.5-inch hose and ttings – regardless of
the vacuum’s stated CFM.
Keep in mind that every component installed onto your vacuum
will have an eect on the system's suction power. at includes
your hose, hose attachments, adapters, elbows, couplers, etc.

Can I remove the top portion of the Dust Deputy?
No, it is not advised and can cause damage to the cyclone and is not
covered under warranty.
The top portion of the Dust Deputy is detached. Is there a

Is the Dust Deputy food-grade safe?
No, the raw material is rated food-grade safe, but the additional
anti-static material and the factory it's manufactured in are not
rated food safe.
How do I connect the Dust Deputy to a snap-on inlet?
When making a universal product like the Dust Deputy, we try to
build something as widely applicable as possible. However, with
the wide variety of vacuum manufacturers (and some that design
their tools to only work with their branded accessories), there are
some instances where our "universal" design falls short. Every
manufacturer has a dierent standard on what sizes are which i.e.
is a 2.5-inch hose measured on the O.D. of the cu; the I.D. of the
hose itself, the size of the tool it connects to, etc.
For example, for a 2.75” I.D. inlet, the closest size we can
accommodate with an adapter would be 2.5” O.D. You could wrap
tape around our adapter to build it up to that size - but that would
admittedly be a bit messy of a solution.
ere are some outlets like Peachtree Woodworking that may have
adapters that can better t your tool, and there are also plumbing-
style adapters at most hardware stores (look for Fernco) that might
also work and be cheaper/more readily available.
