Die Gebrauchsanweisung gibt Ihnen wichtige Informationen für das Anpassen und Anlegen der
Abduktionshosen Cosa Active und Cosa Junior.
2 Produktbeschreibung
Die Orthese wird als Starter Set in zwei Varianten ausgeliefert:
• 28L100 Cosa Junior (Hose ohne Reißverschluss)
• 28L101 Cosa Active (Hose mit Reißverschluss)
Das Starter Set beinhaltet jeweils:
• 2 Hosen (inklusive Gurtset)
• 1 Abduktionspolster Set (inklusive Gebrauchsanweisung)

3 Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
3.1 Verwendungszweck
Die Orthese ist ausschließlich zur orthetischen Versorgung der Hüfte einzusetzen und ausschließ
lich für den Kontakt mit intakter Haut bestimmt.
Die Orthese muss indikationsgerecht eingesetzt werden.
3.2 Indikationen
• Diplegie, spastisch
• Hüftdysplasie
• Hüftgelenksubluxation, angeboren
• Hypotonus
• Tetraplegie, spastisch
• Spina bifida

3.3 Kontraindikationen
3.3.1 Absolute Kontraindikationen
• Hüftgelenkluxation
3.3.2 Relative Kontraindikationen
Bei nachfolgenden Indikationen ist eine Rücksprache mit dem Arzt erforderlich: Hauterkrankun
gen/-verletzungen, Entzündungen, aufgeworfene Narben mit Schwellung, Rötung und Überwär
mung im versorgten Körperabschnitt; Lymphabfluss-Störungen – auch unklare Weichteilschwel
lungen körperfern des Hilfsmittels; Empfindungs- und Durchblutungsstörungen im Bereich des
Beins.
Eine Rücksprache mit dem Arzt ist ebenfalls bei Kontrakturen und Verkürzungen im Lendenwir
belsäulenbereich und der unteren Extremität erforderlich.
3.4 Wirkungsweise
Die Orthese verhindert bei neuromuskulären Schwächen durch den Einsatz von Polstern zwi
schen den Beinen eine übermäßige Adduktion beim Liegen, Sitzen, Stehen und Gehen. Die Or
these ermöglicht eine stabile Sitz- und Stehbasis, verbessert dadurch die Rumpfhaltung und führt
zu einer besseren Gleichgewichtskontrolle.
Die Orthese verbessert bei gehfähigen Patienten die Beckensymmetrie und erhöht die Kniefrei
heit. Der Scherengang wird gemindert und ein physiologischeres Gehen gefördert.
Gehunfähige Patienten können durch den Einsatz der Orthese im Rollstuhl auf die Verwendung
separater Abduktionskeile verzichten. Die Hüftabduktion der Orthese verbessert das Sitzgleich
gewicht durch eine breitere Sitzbasis. Ein Abstützen mit den Händen ist nicht mehr notwendig.
Die Orthese verringert im Liegen, z.B. während des Schlafens, die durch die Spastik eintretende
Muskelverkürzung.
4 Sicherheit

5 Handhabung
INFORMATION
►Die tägliche Tragedauer und der Anwendungszeitraum werden in der Regel vom Arzt festge
legt.
►Die erstmalige Anpassung und Anwendung des Produkts darf nur durch Fachpersonal erfol
gen.
►Weisen Sie den Patienten in die Handhabung und Pflege des Produkts ein.
►Weisen Sie den Patienten darauf hin, dass er umgehend einen Arzt aufsuchen soll, wenn er
außergewöhnliche Veränderungen an sich feststellt (z.B. Zunahme der Beschwerden).
5.1 Auswählen der Größe
Auswählen anhand der Konfektionsgröße
►Die Orthesengröße anhand der Konfektionsgröße auswählen (siehe Größentabelle).
Auswählen anhand der Umfangsmaße
1) Den Hüftumfang messen.
2) Die Größe der Hose ermitteln (siehe Größentabelle).
3) Den Oberschenkelumfang auf Höhe der Polster messen.
4) Die Größe der Polster ermitteln (siehe Größentabelle).
5.2 Anpassen
VORSICHT
Mechanische Beschädigung des Produkts
Verletzungen durch Funktionsveränderung oder –verlust
►Arbeiten Sie sorgfältig mit dem Produkt.
►Prüfen Sie das Produkt auf Funktion und Gebrauchsfähigkeit.
►Verwenden Sie das Produkt bei Funktionsveränderungen oder -verlust nicht weiter und las
sen Sie es durch autorisiertes Fachpersonal kontrollieren.
Anpassen der Polster
1) Die Polster so am Oberschenkel anlegen, dass die Umlenkschlaufen nach proximal zeigen
(siehe Abb.1).
2) Den benötigten Abduktionswinkel bestimmen.
3) Bei Bedarf: Die Flächen der Polster mit Schleifpapier aufrauen und weiterer Lagen aufkleben
(siehe Abb.2).
4) Die Flächen der Polster beschleifen (siehe Abb.3).
HINWEIS! Die Flächen der Polster maximal bis zur Markierung beschleifen.
Anpassen der Gürtellänge
1) Die Hose zur Probe am Patienten anziehen.
2) Die benötigte Länge der Gürtelenden markieren.
3) Die Position der Umlenkschlaufe (siehe Abb.4) und des Klettverschlusses (siehe Abb.5) zum
Vernähen markieren.
4) Die Umlenkschlaufe und den Klettverschluss des Gürtels (siehe Abb.6) vernähen.
5) Bei Bedarf: Die Passform der Hose anpassen.

Einstellen der Polster
1) Die Polster so in die Polstertaschen der Hose einsetzen, dass die Umlenkschlaufen nach pro
ximal zeigen (siehe Abb.7).
2) Die Umlenkschlaufen der Polster durch die Öffnungen der Hose nach außen führen (siehe
Abb.8).
3) Die Klettverschlüsse der Taschen verschließen.
4) Die Kreuzgurte an den Umlenkschlaufen der Polster anbringen (siehe Abb.9).
5) Die Hose zur Probe am Patienten anziehen (siehe Abb.10).
6) Die Position der Kreuzgurte ermitteln und die Kreuzgurte provisorisch mit Doppelklett fixieren
(siehe Abb.11).
7) Die Spannung der Kreuzgurte überprüfen (siehe Abb.13).
8) Die Position der Kreuzgurte zum späteren Vernähen markieren (siehe Abb.12).
INFORMATION: Achten Sie darauf, dass bei symmetrischer Hüfte die Gurtführung
ebenfalls symmetrisch verläuft (siehe Abb.14).
9) Die Kreuzgurte (siehe Abb.15) vernähen.
Funktionskontrolle
1) Den Sitz und die Funktion der Orthese überprüfen.
2) Bei Bedarf: Die Feineinstellung der Polster mit Hilfe der Gurte vornehmen.
5.3 Anlegen
VORSICHT
Falsches oder zu festes Anlegen

►Stellen Sie das korrekte Anlegen und den korrekten Sitz des Produkts sicher.

►Verwenden Sie das Produkt nicht bei bekannter Allergie gegen Wärme.
►Verwenden Sie das Produkt bei auftretenden Hautirritationen nicht weiter.

1) Die Hose anziehen.
2) Den Gürtel und ggf. den Reißverschluss schließen.
3) Die Einstellungen der Polster überprüfen und bei Bedarf über die Kreuzgurte nachstellen.
6 Reinigung
HINWEIS
Verwendung falscher Reinigungsmittel
Beschädigung des Produktes durch falsche Reinigungsmittel

►Reinigen Sie das Produkt nur mit den zugelassenen Reinigungsmitteln.
Die Orthese regelmäßig reinigen:
1) Die Kreuzgurte lösen.
2) Die Klettverschlüsse der Taschen öffnen.
3) Die Polster entfernen.
4) Alle Klettverschlüsse schließen.
5) Empfehlung: Waschbeutel oder -netz verwenden.
6) Die Hose in 40°C warmen Wasser mit einem handelsüblichen Feinwaschmittel waschen. Kei
nen Weichspüler verwenden. Gut ausspülen.
7) An der Luft trocknen lassen. Direkte Hitzeeinwirkung vermeiden (z.B. durch Sonnenbestrah
lung, Ofen- oder Heizkörperhitze).
8) Die Polster wieder in die Hose einsetzen.
7 Entsorgung
Das Produkt gemäß den geltenden nationalen Vorschriften entsorgen.
8 Rechtliche Hinweise
Alle rechtlichen Bedingungen unterliegen dem jeweiligen Landesrecht des Verwenderlandes und
können dementsprechend variieren.

These instructions for use provide important information on the fitting and application of the Cosa
Active and Cosa Junior abduction pants.
2 Product description
The orthosis is supplied as a starter set in two versions:

3 Intended use
3.1 Indications for use
The orthosis is intended exclusively for orthotic fittings of the hip and exclusively for contact with
intact skin.
The orthosis must be used in accordance with the indications.
3.2 Indications

• Hip joint subluxation, congenital
• Hypotonicity
• Tetraplegia, spastic

3.3 Contraindications
3.3.1 Absolute Contraindications

3.3.2 Relative Contraindications
The following indications require consultation with a physician: skin diseases/injuries, inflamma
tion, prominent scars that are swollen, reddening and hyperthermia of the fitted limb/body area;
lymphatic flow disorders, including unclear soft tissue swelling distant to the body area to which
the medical device will be applied; sensory and circulatory disorders in the leg area.
Consulting a doctor is also required in case of contractures and shortening in the area of the
lumbar spine and the lower limbs.
3.4 Effects
In case of neuromuscular weakness, the orthosis prevents excessive adduction while lying down,
sitting, standing and walking through the use of pads between the legs. The orthosis enables a

firm basis for sitting and standing, thereby improving the torso position and leading to better bal
ance control.
In patients who are able to walk, the orthosis improves pelvic symmetry and increases knee free
dom. The scissor gait is reduced and more physiological walking is promoted.
By using the orthosis, patients who are unable to walk do not have to use separate abductors in
the wheelchair. Hip abduction with the orthosis improves balance while sitting by establishing a
broader seat basis. Using the hands for support is no longer necessary.
When lying down, e.g.while sleeping, the orthosis reduces muscle shortening due to spasticity.
4 Safety

5 Handling
INFORMATION
►The daily duration of use and period of application are generally determined by the physi
cian.
►The initial fitting and application of the product must be carried out by qualified personnel.
►Instruct the patient in the handling and care of the product.
►Instruct the patient to see a physician immediately if any exceptional changes are noted (e.g.
worsening of the complaint).
5.1 Size Selection
Selection according to clothes size
►Select the orthosis size based on the clothing size (see sizing table).
Selection according to circumferences
1) Measure the hip circumference.

2) Determine the size of the pants (see size chart).
3) Measure the thigh circumference at the height of the pads.
4) Determine the size of the pads (see size chart).
5.2 Adaptation
CAUTION

Injuries due to changes in or loss of functionality
►Use caution when working with the product.
►Check the product for proper function and readiness for use.
►In case of changes in or loss of functionality, discontinue use of the product and have it
checked by authorised, qualified personnel.
Adapting the pads
1) Apply the pads to the thigh so that the guide loops face in the proximal direction (see fig.1).
2) Determine the required abduction angle.
3) If necessary: Use sandpaper to roughen the surfaces of the pads and glue on additional lay
ers (see fig.2).
4) Grind the surfaces of the pads (see fig.3).
NOTICE! Do not grind the pad surfaces further than the mark.
Adapting the belt length
1) Trial fit the pants on the patient.
2) Mark the required length of the belt ends.
3) Mark the position of the guide loop (see fig.4) and the hook-and-loop closure (see fig.5) for
sewing.
4) Sew the guide loop and hook-and-loop closure for the belt (see fig.6).
5) If necessary: Adapt the fit of the pants.
Adjusting the pads
1) Insert the pads into the pad pockets on the pants so that the guide loops face in the proximal
direction (see fig.7).
2) Pull the guide loops of the pads out through the openings in the pants (see fig.8).
3) Close the hook-and-loop closures on the pockets.
4) Attach the cross straps on the guide loops of the pads (see fig.9).
5) Trial fit the pants on the patient (see fig.10).
6) Determine the position of the cross straps and temporarily secure the cross straps with
double hook-and-loop (see fig.11).
7) Check the tension of the cross straps (see fig.13).
8) Mark the position of the cross straps for later sewing (see fig.12).
INFORMATION: Make sure that the routing of the straps is symmetrical in case of
symmetrical hips (see fig.14).
9) Sew the cross straps (see fig.15).
Functional test
1) Verify the fit and functionality of the orthosis.
2) If necessary: Fine-tune the pads using the straps.

5.3 Application

1) Put on the pants.
2) Fasten the belt and close the zip if applicable.
3) Check the positioning of the pads and readjust them with the cross straps as needed.
6 Cleaning
NOTICE
Use of improper cleaning agents
Damage to the product due to use of improper cleaning agents
►Only clean the product with the approved cleaning agents.
Clean the orthosis regularly:
1) Loosen the cross straps.
2) Open the hook-and-loop closures of the pockets.
3) Remove the pads.
4) Fasten all hook-and-loop closures.
5) Recommendation: Use a laundry bag or net.
6) Wash the pants in warm water at 40°C with standard mild detergent. Do not use fabric
softener. Rinse thoroughly.
7) Allow to air dry. Do not expose to direct heat sources (e.g.sunlight, stove or radiator).
8) Put the pads back in the pants.
7 Disposal
Dispose of the product in accordance with national regulations.

3 Utilisation conforme
3.1 Usage prévu
L’orthèse est exclusivement destinée à un appareillage orthétique de la hanche et elle est conçue
uniquement pour entrer en contact avec une peau intacte.
Il est impératif d’utiliser l’orthèse conformément aux indications.
3.2 Indications

3.3 Contre-indications

3.3.2 Contre-indications relatives
Les indications suivantes requièrent la consultation d’un médecin: lésions ou affections cuta
nées, inflammations, cicatrices exubérantes avec œdème, rougeurs et échauffement excessif
dans la zone du corps appareillée, troubles de la circulation lymphatique et également œdèmes
inexpliqués des parties molles dans la partie distale de l’orthèse, troubles de la perception et de
la circulation sanguine de la jambe.
Il est également nécessaire de demander l’avis de son médecin en cas de contractures et de rai

3.4 Effets thérapeutiques
En cas de faiblesses d’origine neuromusculaire, l’orthèse empêche toute adduction excessive en
position allongée, assise, debout et pendant la marche grâce à l’utilisation de rembourrages dis
posés entre les jambes. L’orthèse offre une bonne stabilité en position assise et debout, amélio
rant ainsi la tenue du tronc et permettant un meilleur contrôle de l’équilibre.
Pour les patients ayant l’usage de leurs jambes, l’orthèse améliore la symétrie du bassin et aug
mente la liberté de mouvement des genoux. Elle réduit la marche en ciseaux et favorise une
marche plus physiologique.
Pouvant être utilisée sur un fauteuil roulant, l’orthèse permet aux patients n’ayant plus l’usage de
leurs jambes de renoncer à l’utilisation de cales d’abduction séparées. L’orthèse d’abduction de
hanche améliore l’équilibre en position assise grâce à une surface d’assise plus large. Il n’est
plus nécessaire de prendre appui sur les mains.
En position allongée, parex. pendant le sommeil, l’orthèse réduit la raideur musculaire causée
par la spasticité.

5 Manipulation
INFORMATION
►En général, le médecin détermine la durée quotidienne du port du produit et sa période
d’utilisation.
►Seul le personnel spécialisé est habilité à procéder au premier ajustement et à la première
utilisation du produit.
►Apprenez au patient comment manipuler et entretenir correctement le produit.
►Indiquez au patient qu'il doit immédiatement consulter un médecin s'il constate des change
ments anormaux sur sa personne (par ex. une augmentation des douleurs).
5.1 Sélection de la taille
Sélection en fonction de la taille de confection
►Sélectionnez la taille de l’orthèse en fonction de la taille de confection (voir tableau des
tailles).
Sélection en fonction de la circonférence
1) Mesurez la circonférence de la hanche.
2) Sélectionnez la taille du pantalon (voir tableau des tailles).
3) Mesurez le tour de cuisse à la hauteur des rembourrages.
4) Sélectionnez la taille des rembourrages (voir tableau des tailles).

5.2 Ajustement
PRUDENCE
Dégradation mécanique du produit
Blessures dues à une modification ou une perte de fonctionnalité
►Manipulez le produit avec précaution.
►Vérifiez le produit afin de juger s’il est encore fonctionnel.
►Cessez d’utiliser le produit en cas de modifications ou de pertes fonctionnelles et faites-le
contrôler par un personnel spécialisé agréé.
Ajustement des rembourrages
1) Posez les rembourrages sur la cuisse de sorte que les boucles de renvoi soient orientées vers
le côté proximal (voir ill.1).
2) Définissez l’angle d’abduction requis.
3) En cas de besoin: rendez les surfaces des rembourrages rugueuses en utilisant du papier
de verre et collez des couches supplémentaires (voir ill.2).
4) Poncez les surfaces des rembourrages (voir ill.3).
AVIS! Poncez les surfaces des rembourrages au maximum jusqu’au repère.
Ajustement de la longueur de ceinture
1) Mettez le pantalon au patient pour faire un essai.
2) Marquez la longueur requise pour les extrémités de la ceinture.
3) Marquez la position de la boucle de renvoi (voir ill.4) et de la fermeture velcro (voir ill.5) pour
la couture.
4) Cousez la boucle de renvoi et la fermeture velcro de la ceinture (voir ill.6).
5) En cas de besoin: ajustez la forme du pantalon.
Réglage des rembourrages
1) Insérez les rembourrages dans les poches des rembourrages du pantalon de sorte que les
boucles de renvoi soient orientées vers le côté proximal (voir ill.7).
2) Faites sortir les boucles de renvoi des rembourrages en les faisant passer par les ouvertures
du pantalon (voir ill.8).
3) Fermez les fermetures velcro des poches.
4) Enfilez les sangles croisées dans les boucles de renvoi des rembourrages (voir ill.9).
5) Mettez le pantalon au patient pour faire un essai (voir ill.10).
6) Déterminez la position des sangles croisées et fixez-les provisoirement avec du velcro double
face (voir ill.11).
7) Vérifiez la tension des sangles croisées (voir ill.13).
8) Marquez la position des sangles croisées pour effectuer plus tard la couture (voir ill.12).
INFORMATION: Si la hanche est symétrique, veillez à ce que le guidage de la sangle
soit également symétrique (voir ill.14).
9) Cousez les sangles croisées (voir ill.15).
Contrôle du fonctionnement
1) Vérifiez le positionnement et le fonctionnement de l’orthèse.
2) En cas de besoin: procédez au réglage de précision des rembourrages à l’aide des
sangles.

3) Vérifiez les réglages des rembourrages et si nécessaire, réajustez à l’aide des sangles croi
sées.
6 Nettoyage
AVIS
Utilisation de détergents inadaptés
Dégradation du produit occasionnée par l’utilisation d’un détergent inadapté
►Nettoyez le produit uniquement avec les détergents autorisés.
Nettoyez l'orthèse régulièrement:
1) Desserrez les sangles croisées.
2) Ouvrez les fermetures velcro des poches.
3) Retirez les rembourrages.
4) Fermez toutes les fermetures velcro.
5) Recommandation: utilisez un sac ou un filet de lavage.
6) Lavez le pantalon à 40°C avec une lessive pour linge délicat disponible dans le commerce.
N’utilisez pas d’assouplissant. Rincez bien.
7) Laissez sécher à l’air. Évitez toute source de chaleur directe (parex. le rayonnement solaire
ou la chaleur d’un poêle/d’un radiateur).
8) Replacez les rembourrages dans le pantalon.

Éliminez le produit conformément aux prescriptions nationales en vigueur.
