ReChargX™ RX237 Instructions
For use in the Brother TN670 and TN4100 toner cartridges
The Brother TN670 and TN4100 are the toner
cartridges most frequently found in the Brother
HL-6050, HL-6050DN, HL-6050DW and all other
machines using the same underlying “engine”
(gure 1).
These toner cartridges are quite easy to rell
using our ReChargX™ RX237 Premium Print
Toner Rell Kit.
Within these ReChargX™ RX237 Premium
Print Toner Rell Kit instructions, we will be
adding new toner and resetting the ag gear.
Step 1: Orient the Drum Unit
When you remove the toner cartridge from your
printer it will be resting in the drum unit.
Orient the drum unit on your work surface so
the handle of the toner cartridge is facing toward
your chest (gure 1).
Step 2: Remove the Toner Cartridge
Press and hold down on the blue tab located on
the right side of the drum unit, shown by the
white arrow in gure 1. Lift the cartridge up and
out of the drum unit, shown in gure 2.
Place the drum unit off to the side for the time
being; it will be used again later.
Step 3: Orient the Toner Cartridge
Orient the cartridge on your work surface so the
developer roller of the cartridge is away from
your chest and the handle is toward your chest
(gure 3).

Step 4: Cover the Developer Roller
This step is recommended since the developer
roller is completely exposed and easy to damage
by scratching or contaminating with ngerprints,
affecting it’s ability to create a quality image.
Using a normal sheet of printer paper, tape the
paper to the top side of the cartridge, shown in
gure 4a.
Fold the paper over the leading edge of the
cartridge and tape the other edge of the sheet
of paper to the opposite side of the toner
cartridge (gure 4b).
Step 5: Orient the Toner Cartridge
Orient the cartridge on your work surface so
the end of the cartridge with the label and toner
hopper plug is facing upward, shown in gure 5.
The toner hopper plug will be located underneath
the label of the cartridge.
Step 6: Remove the Cartridge Label
Using the edge of a at-blade screwdriver, slice
through the label on the side (gure 6).

Step 7: Remove the Toner Hopper Plug
Wedge the edge of a at-blade screwdriver
down between the lip of the cartridge and the
toner hopper plug then pry the plug up and
out, gure 7.
Do not worry about damaging the plug, we include
a replacement plug with the ReChargX™ RX237
Toner Rell Kit. However, be careful not to damage
the toner cartridge itself.
Step 8: Empty the Toner Hopper
You must remove any toner that is still in the
toner hopper before relling.
NOTE: This step does not need to be repeated
the next time you rell.
NOTE: This toner cannot be used again, the
new toner being added cannot mix with the
OEM toner. Failing to remove the toner before
relling will result in signicant hazing on some
or all of the printed page that will not go away
with further printing.
Open the plastic bag, included in the ReChargX™
RX237 Toner Rell Kit, and lower the toner cartridge
so the toner hopper hole is in the bag.
Carefully pour out as much of the remaining
toner as possible (gure 8).
Shaking the toner cartridge up-and-down is
not recommended as it normally creates an
unnecessary toner mess.
If the toner stops owing, stand the cartridge
up and then lower the toner hopper hole into
the bag (gently tapping along the side of the
cartridge helps to keep the toner owing).
With the majority of the toner removed, seal
the bag and toss it in the garbage.

Step 9: Add ReChargX™ RX237 Premium
Print Toner to the Toner Hopper
Now we will ll the toner hopper with the
ReChargX™ RX237 Premium Print toner.
To ensure the toner ows freely from the bottle
during lling, make certain the cap is screwed
tightly on the bottle, then gently rock/shake
the bottle to free up the toner that may have
settled during shipping.
Next, remove the original cap from the bottle
and replace it with the plastic dispenser spout
from the ReChargX™ RX237 Toner Rell Kit.
To make the adding of the toner to the toner
hopper as easy and dust-free as possible, tilt
the end of the cartridge with the hole in it up
at a 45 degree angle and slowly angle the
dispenser spout on the bottle of toner to meet
up with the hole, as shown in gure 9.
Tilting the bottle up a little more will start the
toner owing into the toner hopper.
NOTE: If at any point the toner stops owing,
simply stand the bottle upright to loosen the
toner and start the pouring process over again
(resist temptation to squeeze the bottle as it
will make a spill or mess more likely).
Fill the hopper until it appears to be full or until
it appears toner no longer ows easily into the
hopper (any toner left in the bottle can easily
be added in the future after you have done a
considerable amount of printing).

Step 10: Clean the Area Around the Toner
Hopper Hole Before Sealing
Unfold the yellow/orange “toner grabber” cloth
from the ReChargX™ RX237 Premium Print Toner
Rell Kit and stretch it along both dimensions (it
will stretch considerably in one dimension and
not the other). Stretching the yellow/orange
toner grabber cloth activates the toner retaining
substance that is embedded within the cloth.
You will be using this cloth to clean the outside of
the toner hopper hole to ensure the plug will be
applied rmly and securely to the cartridge, as
shown in gure 10.
NOTE: Only use the toner grabber cloth on the
exterior of the toner cartridge around the toner
hopper hole area. Do not use the cloth to clean
any of the internal components or the cartridge
developer roller.
Step 11: Plug the Toner Hopper Hole
Place the plug over the hopper hole, press rmly
around the entire perimeter of the plug to make
certain the plug sits securely inside the toner
hopper hole (gure 11).
NOTE: Do not press hard enough for the plug
to go through the hole and into the cartridge.
Step 12: Locate and Remove the Screws
Holding the Cartridge End-Cap
in Place
Now we will proceed to the last step in this rell
process. Resetting the ag gear.
With the cartridge in its current orientation you
will notice three screws that hold the end cap in
place, shown by the white arrows in gure 12a.
Using a phillips-head screwdriver remove the
screws holding the cartridge end-cap in place
(gure 12b) and set the cartridge end-cap aside
for future use.

Step 13: Locate the Flag Gear
The ag gear is the large black gear in the cen-
ter of the toner cartridge, shown by the white
arrow in gure 13.
NOTE: If your toner cartridge does not have
a ag gear, add the new gear from the RX237
Toner Rell Kit as shown in step 14.
Step 14: Reset the Flag Gear
Reset the ag gear by lifting up on it slightly
and rotating it counter clockwise until the tab
moves from the three o’clock position to the
twelve o’clock position, shown in gures 14a
and 14b.
Step 15: Reinstall the Cartridge End-Cap
Place the cartridge end-cap back onto the
cartridge the same orientation as when you
rst removed it. Then reinsert the screws, set
aside earlier, back into the same locations and
secure the gear casing onto the toner cartridge,
gure 15.

Step 16: Remove the Piece of Paper
With the cartridge relled and the ag gear
reset, remove the paper from both sides of the
developer roller, as shown in gure 16.
This piece of paper can now be discarded.
Step 17: Reinstall the Toner Cartridge
Return the newly relled toner cartridge to the
drum unit (gure 17) and insert it into your
printer.

ReChargX™ RX237 Addendum
Special instructions to resolve symptoms of vertical white
streaks/light print through text or graphics
Paper particles and other debris tend to
accumulate on the “doctor blade” in this
toner cartridge. ONLY if your cartridge
is exhibiting vertical white streaks (fairly
distinct and thin as opposed to large areas
missing toner which are simply indicative of
a cartridge running out of toner), perform
the following steps.
(CRITICAL NOTE: DO NOT perform these
steps unless your cartridge is exhibiting the
distinct white vertical lines mentioned above.
There is no reason to perform these steps,
at all, if you are not seeing those distinct
vertical white lines. In fact, there are many
reasons NOT to perform these steps except
in those cases where the white vertical lines
are visible.)
If you complete the following steps and are
still seeing the vertical white streaks it may
be time to replace the toner cartridge.
Step 1: Orient the Toner Cartridge
Orient the toner cartridge with the top of the
toner cartridge facing away from your chest
and developer roller facing up (gure 2), the
doctor blade is the shiny metal strip along
the front edge of the cartridge, just above
the developer roller.

Gently pry up on the doctor blade with a
small at blade screwdriver on each end of
the blade to free it from the hopper (gures
6a and 6b).
NOTE: Be careful not to bend or twist the
doctor blade.
Step 6: Clean the Doctor Blade
With the doctor blade removed from the hopper,
use a cotton swab (moistened with isopropyl
alcohol, if available, if not a dry cotton swab will
work ne. DO NOT USE WATER) to clean the
length of the dark portion of the doctor blade
front and back (gure 7).
Here is a close-up of the doctor blade assembly
and the dark portion you are to clean (gure 8).
Pay particular attention to any toner that is
stuck to the doctor blade. Do not use any
sharp objects to clean the doctor blade or it
may be damaged.
