1-1. Installation Notes
1-1-1. Confirmation Before BKMW-E3000 Installation
BKMW-E3000 has the following features mainly:
.MXF D10 file receive/transmit (The receive function is applicable only for recorder.)
.Proxy AV file transmit
.Network service with Web server
.Network service with Windows application
.FTP/HTTP transmit by e-VTR control panel operation
.e-monitor
.Automatic get of network setting information such as IP address, and so on
.Network management using host names (DNS client service)
.Automatic file creation by reading data of the tape or memory label
.User registration
.Backup for setup menu settings
.SNMP
.Links to external servers using meta data
.Automatic file system data management through on external server ... etc.
However, of the VTRs to install the BKMW-E3000, some VTRs having early serial numbers have a
limitation by variations in designs of the EPR-1 boards.
The limitation is one of the following cases:
.The VTR cannot be equipped with the BKMW-E3000.
.MXF D10 file receive/transmit function is available, instead of unavailable SDTI-CP input/output
function of the VTR.
.SDTI-CP input/output function is available, instead of unavailable MXF D10 file receive/transmit
function of the BKMW-E3000.
Before installing the BKMW-E3000, please read thoroughly the following instructions.

EPR-1 board number suffix and installing pattern
1. Check the serial number of the VTR.
2. Check the part-number suffix of the EPR-1 board by using “Table-1: EPR-1 board number suffix and
serial number”or checking the EPR-1 board directly.

In case of earlier serial number than the above number of suffix -12, the VTR cannot be equipped with
the BKMW-E3000.
3. Check the installing pattern.
In case the EPR-1 board number suffix is -14 and later:
All functions can be used.
In case the EPR-1 board number suffix is -12 or -13:
Select either of the MXF D10 file receive/transmit function or SDTI-CP input/output function.

Receives and transmits the video, audio, or metadata recorded on the tape as MXF D10 file.

Receives and transmits the video, audio, or metadata recorded on the tape using SDTI-CP.

Confirming Version
1. Check the following software versions using the maintenance mode M30 of the VTR:
SY ROM Ver. ; V7.10 or higher
SV ROM Ver. ; V6.00 or higher

If the version is lower than the above, upgrade the software of the VTR.
Please contact your local Sony Sales Office/Service Center.
VTR Maintenance Mode
For the detailed information for each menu of the maintenance mode, refer to Section 3 of the mainte-
nance manual volume-1 of the VTR.
.Activating the maintenance mode:
Press S1500 (A-1) on the SS-89 board of the VTR.
.Entering a mode (menu):
Press the F5 (SET) button once under the asterisk cursor (*) is aligned to the desired mode (menu) with
the menu displayed on the video monitor.
The *mark is sifted by turning the MULTI CONTROL knob of the VTR.
.Existing a mode (menu):
Press the F6 (EXIT) button of the VTR several times to exit the mode (menu).

1. Turn off the power of the VTR.
2. With the two screws (with stopper) fully loosened,
remove the upper lid (rear) assembly of the VTR in the
arrow direction.
3. Remove the cable protector in the arrow direction.
4. Unfasten the coaxial cables from the three claws. And
then open the eject levers of the EPR-1 board in the
direction of the arrows, and pull the board upward
gently.

5. Remove the six screws, and remove the shield plate
from the EPR-1 board.
6. Attach the IF-886 board onto the EPR-1 board.

In the case of Installing Pattern [C]:
Attaching the IF-886 board is not required. (Proceed to
Step 7.)

(When the DIF-109 board is not attached)
(1) Attach the hexagonal supports using the four
screws (B3 x4) of the supplied accessories as
shown in the figure.
(2) Connect the IF-886 board to the EPR-1 board, and
fix it with the four screws (B3 x4) of the supplied
accessories.
(3) Reattach the shield plate with the six screws.
Pattern [B]
(When the DIF-109 board is attached)
(1) Disconnect the coaxial cables and remove the four
screws, and then remove the DIF-109 board.
n
When disconnecting the coaxial cable, do not
attempt to remove by pulling the cable. Be sure to
hold the plug to remove.
Arrange the coaxial cables disconnected as shown
in the figure of step 15.
(2) Connect the IF-886 board to the EPR-1 board, and
fix it with the four screws (B3 x4).
(3) Reattach the shield plate with the six screws.

7. Open the eject levers of the DPR-155/229 board and
the VPR-64 board in the direction of the arrows, and
pull the boards upward gently.
8. Remove the three duster covers from the slot No. 8.
9. Remove the SDI input panel (for recorder) or the blank
panel (SDI) (for player) from the connector panel of
the VTR.
For the recorder
Remove the six screws, and then remove the SDI input
panel and the coaxial connector converter.
For the player
Remove the four screws, and then remove the blank
panel (SDI).

10. Attach the IF-885 board.
For the recorder
(1) Attach the coaxial connector converter to the
ETHERNET panel using the two screws.
n
Be sure to position the coaxial connector converter
as shown in the figure.
(2) Attach the IF-885 board to the ETHERNET panel
using the two screws (BVTT3 x6) of the supplied
accessories.
For the player
(1) Attach the IF-885 board to the ETHERNET panel
using the two screws (BVTT3 x6) of the supplied
accessories.
(2) Affix the blank sheet of the supplied accessories
onto the ETHERNET panel.
11. Attach the ETHERNET panel to the VTR.
(1) Arrange the connection cord and the harness
(LED) of the supplied accessories as shown in the
figure.
(2) Connect the connection cord to the connector CN2
on the IF-885 board, and connect the harness
(LED) to the connector CN3 on the IF-855 board.

(3) Attach the ETHERNET panel to the VTR using
the four screws.

.For the recorder, check that the coaxial cables
are connected correctly as shown in the figure.
.When the number of attaching screw is not
enough, use screws (BVTT3 x6) of the sup-
plied accessories.
12. Attach the harness guard assembly to the VTR.
(1) Removing a screw from the MB reinforcement,
and attach the harness guard assembly onto the
MB reinforcement using a screw (with stopper) as
shown in the figure.

(2) Hold the connection cord and the harness (LED)
using the wire holder of the harness guard assem-
bly.
(3) Attach the ferrite clamp of the supplied accesso-
ries to the connection cord as shown in the figure.
13. Reinstall the plug-in boards.
(1) Insert the DPR-155/229 board, EPR-1 board, and
VPR-64 board to the original slot. Push simulta-
neously down the two eject levers of the each
board to firmly connect it to the motherboard.
(2) Insert the VN-13 board assembly into the slot No.
8 while lifting up the connection cord and the
harness (LED). Push simultaneously down the two
eject levers of the each board to firmly connect it
to the motherboard.

In the case of Installing Pattern [C]:
Check that Bit-4 of the switch S101 is set to ON
(upper side).
14. Connect the harnesses of the supplied accessories.
(1) Connect the harness (LED) to the connector
CN1102 on the VN-13 board.
(2) Connect the connection cord to the connector
CN1103 on the VN-13 board, and tuck the ferrite
clamp between the boards.

In the case of Installing Pattern [C]:
The following steps (3) and (4) are not required. (Proceed
to Step 15.)
(3) Bend the harness (EPR-VN) of the supplied
accessories as shown in the Fig. 1.
(4) Set the ferrite cores to the shield plate side, and
tuck the harness between the boards. And then
connect it to the connectors CN5 on the VN-13
board and CN2 on the IF-886 board. (Refer to
Fig. 2)

Be sure to open the space between the edge of the
shield plate and the harness (EPR-VN) as shown
in the figure.
15. Arrange the coaxial cables as shown in the figure, and
reattach the cable protector in the arrow direction.
16. Reattach the upper lid (rear) assembly of the VTR, and
tighten the two screws (with stopper).

1. Remove the upper lid (front) assembly.
(1) Loosen the screw (with stopper) completely.
(2) Move the two knobs of the upper lid (front)
assembly inwards. (To secure the upper lid (front)
assembly, move the knob outwards.)
(3) Hold the back of the upper lid (front) assembly,
and pull out in the arrow direction.
2. Remove the front panel.
(1) Remove the left and right screws (one each)
securing the front panel.
(2) Push the left and right unlock buttons, and open
the lower control panel as shown in the figure.
(3) Unhook the two hooks at the bottom of the front
panel.
(4) Release the two hooks and three claws from the
chassis, and remove the front panel in the arrow
direction.

3. Remove the format escutcheon.
(1) Break the two claws A of the format escutcheon
using the pliers, and remove them.
(2) Release the three claws B from the front panel,
and remove the format escutcheon in the arrow
direction.
4. Attach the format escutcheon removed in step 3 to the
front panel (E) for the BKMW-E3000, and snap on the
three hooks as shown in the figure.
5. Remove the SWC-40 board.
(1) Disconnect the harness from the connector CN1
on the LED-357 board.
(2) Remove the two screws and remove the SWC-40
board.
(3) Disconnect the harness (12 pin) from the connec-
tor CN1 on the SWC-40 board.
6. Disconnect the harness (9 pin) from the connector
CN4 on the HP-101 board, and remove it.
