Introduction
This user's guide introduces to you the USB Wireless LAN Module.
This manual also contains detailed instructions on how to operate the USB
Wireless LAN module and how to install the utility supplied with the unit.
As this product is designed to run under Microsoft Windows, it is
recommended that the accompanying software be installed by people who are
familiar with the installation procedures for network operating systems under
Microsoft Windows.
• High-speed wireless connection, up to 54 Mbps
• IEEE802.11g/802.11b standard for 2.4 GHz Wireless LAN
• USB 2.0 host interface
• WPA encryption
• Built-in flash memory

aWIRELESS LAN/MEMORY indicators
Either indicator lights to show the current selection of the WIRELESS LAN/
MEMORY switch.
bWIRELESS LAN/MEMORY switch
Slide the switch to either of the following positions, depending on the desired
operation.
WIRELESS LAN: Use it as a wireless LAN module.
MEMORY: Use it as a flash memory device.
cUSB connector
Used to connect the unit to the device that you want to use for communication.
dCap
Protects the USB connector when the USB Wireless LAN Module is not
connected to another device.

Utility Software Installation
The product is designed to operate under Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP.
You can install the utility software on your computer either from the supplied
CD-ROM or from the built-in flash memory.
Please follow the on-screen instructions of the installation wizard provided
with your system to install the software.
1Insert the supplied CD-ROM into your computer, or connect the
USB Wireless LAN Module to a USB port of your computer.
The installation screen appears.
2Select [USB Wireless LAN Module Utility] to go on with the
installation.
3Follow the instructions given by the installation wizard to
complete the software installation process.
WIRELESS
LAN
MEMORY
Slide the switch to MEMORY to install the
software from the USB Wireless LAN Module.

4Slide the switch of the USB Wireless LAN Module to WIRELESS
LAN, and then connect the module to your computer.
If the USB port only supports USB 1.1, the following warning appears.
Select “802.11b” and click “OK.”
Your operation system will detect the new device and install the driver
automatically.
During the installation procedure, each operating system may prompt for
different specific options:
Windows 98SE
• The system may request the original Windows CD during the installation
process.
• When the installation is finished, you may have to restart your computer.
Windows Me
You have to restart your computer when the installation is finished.

Setting Up the Network Connection
USB Wireless LAN Module has its own management software, called USB
Wireless LAN(IFU_WLM2) Utility, and users can specify the settings
required to connect your computer to a network.
See also “Using the Utility” (page 11) for details on the USB Wireless
LAN(IFU_WLM2) Utility.
• Consult your network administrator about the settings to be specified.
• You should create a connection profile first to connect your computer to an
encrypted network.
See “Setting Up Encryption” (page 8) for details.
1Start the USB Wireless LAN(IFU_WLM2) Utility.
The USB Wireless LAN(IFU_WLM2) Utility window appears.
You can also see a small red status icon , which indicates that no wireless
connection is established, in the Windows System Tray.
2Slide the switch of the USB Wireless LAN Module to WIRELESS
LAN, then connect the module to your computer.
3On the [Site Survey] tab of the USB Wireless LAN(IFU_WLM2)
Utility window, select the desired network from the list, then click
the [OK] button.
Once connected, the status icon in the Windows System Tray will change to
green .
You can check the detailed connection status on the [Link Status] tab of the
USB Wireless LAN(IFU_WLM2) Utility window.
See “Using the Utility” (page 11) for details on each tab of the USB Wireless
LAN(IFU_WLM2) Utility.

Setting Up Encryption
You can enhance the security of your network by enabling the “Encryption”
function. The USB Wireless LAN Module provides WEP/WPA encryption.
Proceed as follows to create a connection profile for encryption.
1On the [Configure Profile] tab of the USB Wireless
LAN(IFU_WLM2) Utility window, click the [Add] button.
The Add Profile dialog box appears.
2On the [Configuration] tab of the Add Profile dialog box, specify
the required setup items.
3Click either the [WEP Key Setting] or the [WPA Setting] button,
depending on the type of encryption you want to use.
The WEP Key Setting or WPA Setting dialog box appears.
Specify the required setup items in the dialog box, then click the [OK] button.

Removing Your USB Wireless LAN
Module
When you are using Windows Me, 2000, or XP, perform the Windows
hardware removal procedure, as follows, before you remove the USB Wireless
LAN Module from your computer.
When you remove the USB Wireless LAN Module, you will lose your connection to the
network. Make sure you have closed all files and network applications prior to removing
the USB Wireless LAN Module.
1Double-click the “Unplug or Eject Hardware” icon in the Windows
System Tray.
The Unplug or Eject Hardware dialog box appears.
2Select the item corresponding to the USB Wireless LAN Module
from the device list.
3Click the [Stop] button.
Now you can remove the USB Wireless LAN Module from the computer.

Link Status Tab
The Link Status tab shows information on the current wireless connection,
such as the status, signal strength, and SSID.
Status: Displays the current wireless network communication status.
SSID: Displays the SSID of the currently connected network.
Channel: Displays the channel used.
Tx Rate: Displays the current transmission rate.
Network Type: Displays the currently set network type.
Authentication: Displays the current authentication type.
Encryption: Displays whether the encryption function is enabled. If enabled,
the encryption type is displayed.
MAC Address: Displays the MAC address of the USB Wireless LAN
Module.
IP Address: Displays the IP address.
Subnet Mask: Displays the subnet mask.
Default Gateway: Displays the default gateway.
Link Quality: Displays the current signal condition.
Signal Strength: Displays the current signal strength.

Configure Profile Tab
This tab lists the following information on each registered connection profile.
Profile Name: Name of the registered connection profile.
SSID: SSID of the currently connected network.
Channel: Channel used for connection.
Encryption: Information on whether the encryption function is enabled.
Network Type: Network type currently selected (Infrastructure or Ad Hoc).
[Add] button: Create a new connection profile.
[Delete] button: Deletes the selected connection profile.
[Edit] button: Modifies the selected connection profile.
[Activate] button: Activates the selected connection profile.

Site Survey Tab
This tab gives you information on all of the networks within the
communication range, so that you can select the desired access point.
When switching to an encryption-enabled network, a message will appear asking if you
want to use the previous WEP key or WPA settings for connection. Click the [Yes]
button to use the previous settings. Click the [No] button if you choose not to use the
previous settings, then make the encryption setup.
[Rescan] button: Scans the accessible networks within the communication
range.
[Connect] button: Switches the wireless connection to the selected network.
[Add to Profile] button: Registers a connection profile for the selected
network.

Advance Tab
This tab enables you to select the region where the wireless network is used.
Select “World Mode” when you do not need to specify a specific region.
To select a region, click “User Select” then select the desired region in the
drop-down list box.
Depending on the selected region, some channels may not be available.
