Input voltage protection
If a faul may occur on he inpu , he charger is pro ec ed by means of a fuse.
This fuse can be reached by removing he bo om pla e of he charger. I is
loca ed a he inpu side, where he power cord en ers he charger. For
replacemen , always use a fuse wi h he same value as he original one. See
specifica ions on page 54.
Input voltage monitoring
If he inpu vol age drops below 180VAC, he charger will pro ec i self and
pauses he charge process. The ‘power’ will ligh up red. The charge process
will be con inued au oma ically if he inpu vol age has risen o 190VAC again.
Automatic voltage compensation
The charger au oma ically compensa es for he vol age drop over he
connec ion cables. This compensa ion is op imized for he s andard cable leng h
of 1 me ers. To secure he correc working of he vol age compensa ion, i is
preferred no o change he leng h of he cables.
Charge time monitoring
All phases of he charge process are ime moni ored, bu in par icular he firs
s age, he boos phase. If his phase akes longer han 14 hour, he charge
process will be s opped and he ‘ power’ LED will ligh up red. Mos impor an
requisi e of his fea ure is ha his way is preven ed ha he charger keeps on
charging a broken ba ery. Bu wi h his fea ure i also can become clear ha
he charger doesn’ fi he specific si ua ion. For ins ance ha he charge
curren isn’ in he correc propor ion o he ba ery capaci y ( he ba ery can
become damaged when he charge process akes oo long) or due o he
presence of users here is insufficien curren lef for charging he ba ery.
Battery voltage protection
Af er swi ching on, he charger firs moni ors he ba ery vol age. If he charger
doesn’ de ec a ba ery, he power led will ligh up red. If he charger measures
a ba ery vol age ha is oo low, so he ba ery is discharged oo deeply, he
power led will ligh up red for 3 minu es as a warning. The charging process will
no s ar when he ba ery vol age is oo high. Then he power led will also ligh
up red.
Temperature-compensated charging system
By connec ing he op ional empera ure sensor T-Sense1, i is possible o adjus
charging process based on he ba ery empera ure. Read more abou his in
he relevan chap er.
Level of protection
The indica ion for he degree of pro ec ion con ains he charac er ‘IP’
(In erna ional Pro ec ion) followed by wo or hree digi s ha s ipula es he
condi ions ha i complies wi h.
The firs digi refers o he class of pro ec ion for densi y, he second digi o
he fluid densi y and he las digi refers o he impac resis ance. The LBC
500S can be assigned IP 205, which means:
2 = he charger is pro ec ed agains solid par icula e larger han 12mm.
0 = he charger is no pro ec ed agains wa er/liquid e c.
5 = he charger can bear an impac force of 2.00 Joule (2Nm) max.
