Biotage®Selekt Preventive
Maintenance Checklist
Scope
The tasks carried out during the maintenance visit shall include
servicing the listed components and a final check which is
based on factory acceptance and qualifications tests. These two
procedures constitute a Biotage®Selekt Preventive Maintenance
(PM) Plan.
Each Preventive Maintenance visit should be completed within
two hours (per system) and the system returned to operational
status – unless of course a significant problem is identified.
During the PM visit, the system is disassembled, serviced,
re-assembled and given a performance / function test to help
ensure that it will remain in good working order for the following
year.
Preventive Maintenance is a recommended procedure by
Biotage to reduce the instrument downtime and assure reliable
operation, functionality and accuracy of your Selekt system.
Customer Responsibility
The customer should ensure that the site is prepared in agree-
ment with the guidelines provided in advance.
The checks that follow include the listed configurations

PrePM Report
√PM Task Notes
Print the System Status and Statistics Report.
The statistic report can be requested prior to the visit. Use the data and run rate
in the report to determine the wear and tear parts and to predict and make pro-
active replacments during the PM.
Clean and Inspect

Open the Selekt door/covers and remove any dust/
debris.
Turn off the system and unplug the power cord from the power source. Pay
particular attention to cooling fans. 3 fans in total plus the power supply fan.
Inspect internal connectors. Check for proper contact and placement.
Clean the display and exterior of the instrument.
Clean the QR code reader. Use a cloth to wipe.
Inspect external and internal tube connections and
ensure all fittings are tight and leak free. Look for leak evidence.
Inspect the solvent inlet filters.
If clogged, advise the customer to use sonication on the filters or how to order
and replace with new. Refer to the user manual and the Maintenance chapter.
Biotage recommendation is to replace filters every 1000 hours run time.
Inspect and test the leak detectors. If applicable.

Lubricate the pump screws. Refer to the Service manual for details and instructions.
Replace the tube (column inlet) Part number 416015SP.
Replace broken capillary holders if worn or broken. Part number 416427SP.
Prime solvents from all channels. Check one at a
time. Verify that no air bubbles are present. If air bubbles are visible check for leaks.
Run a Pump Pressure and Safety Test Record the result. Refer to the Pump pressure and safety test. if the test fails,
replace all four check valves (415115SP).
Perform a Gradient and Pump Performance Test
and record the result.
Fill two volumetric flasks of an equal volume of 100 ml. From the Flush and Purge
menu in the SW, dispense 100 mL at 25 mL/min at a 50:50 ratio between S1 and
S2. Collect the volume to an an empty volumetric flask from C1 or C2. Record the
result.

Check and adjust (if necessary) the level of the
system.
Adjust (elevate) the front legs to assure that the instrument leans backwards to
avoid possible leakage to front.
Check the functionality of the RFID reader. Check all RFID’s by inserting a tray in each position.
Replace the FC needle. 413245 is the standard needle.
Check and verify that the cable moves freely and
without restrictions in all positions.
Pay particular attention to the cable to the FC valve. If the FC valve needs to
be replaced or has been replaced in the past. Make sure the cable is properly
strapped.
Check that the collect valve tubes are not caught
as the arm moves. Adjust if necessary.

Check the ribbon cable and verify that it's not
jamming as the arm moves in the Y-direction.
Check the alignment of the X-motor as the arm
moves in the X-direction.
Verify correct belt tension and the FC movement. Adjust if necessary.
Clean and lubricate the arm. Use alcohol to clean the arm and lubricate with 413774 ONLY.
Run a Fraction Function test
Verify in Service mode that all four fraction corner positions (both X and Y position)
are correct and aligned over the proper spot. If needed calibrate using the Selekt
calibration tool. Record the result.

Remove the UV cell and inspect for contamination
or signs of leakage. If the Cell is heavliy contaminated or dirty it will not pass calibration.
Clean the Cell by flushing it with MeOH
Refer to the user manual for cleaning guidance. Ultrasonication may be neccesary.
If the UV cells needs to be replaced advise the customer that a new calibration of
the UV cell is necessary.
Calibrate the UV Detector Record the result. If calibration fails possible causes are dirty or contaminted cell
or faulty/worn UV lamp.
Final Checks

Run the Performance and Verification test as per
UI410, using the test mix in the PM kit. Record the
result.
Record the ratio between peak 1 and peak 2.
