Read this chapter thoroughly before using the application description.

This documentation applies to machine control panels VAM 10.2/VAM 40.2.

Purpose This documentation describes the VAM 10.2 and VAM 40.2 machine control
panels.
1.4 Documentation structure
The first part of the documentation contains important information on the in‐
tended use as well as information on the safety instructions (chapter 2 "Us‐
ing safety instructions" on page 7 and chapter 3 "Important Instructions
on use" on page 9).
For a brief overview on the available machine control panel variants and their

Term Explanation
CE The CE marking (Conformité Européenne) is used by the manufac‐
turer or EU importer according to the EU regulation 765/2008 and
"indicates that the product is in conformity with the applicable re‐
quirements set out in Community harmonization legislation provid‐
ing for its affixing"
UL Underwriters Laboratories Inc., US organization to certify electro‐
technical products
CSA Canadian Standards Association. The CSA develops and main‐
tains more than 3000 standards and directives with regard to safe‐
ty, design and performance.
NEMA National Electrical Manufacturers. “National Electrical Manufactur‐
ers Association” of the electrotechnical industry of North America

2.2 Explaining signal words and safety alert symbol
The safety instructions in this documentation contain specific signal words
(danger, warning, caution, notice) and, if necessary, a safety alert symbol
(according to ANSI Z535.6-2006).
The signal word is used to draw attention to the safety instruction and also
provides information on the severity of the hazard.
The safety alert symbol (a triangle with an exclamation point), which pre‐
cedes the signal words danger,warning and caution is used to alert the read‐
er to personal injury hazards.

3 Important Instructions on use
3.1 Intended use
3.1.1 Introduction
Rexroth products represent state-of-the-art developments and manufacturing.
They are tested prior to delivery to ensure operating safety and reliability.
Personal injury and property damage caused
by incorrect use of the products!
WARNING
The products are designed for the use in an industrial environment and may
therefore only be used as intended. If they are not used as intended, situa‐
tions causing personal injury as well as material damage can occur.
Rexroth disclaims as manufacturer any warranty, liability or dam‐
ages occurring due to an unintended use of the products. Further‐
more, Rexroth is not paying any compensation. The user is re‐
sponsible for any risks resulting from and unintended use of the
products.
Before using Rexroth products, the following requirements must be met to
ensure the intended use of the products:
● Everyone using one of our products must first read and understand the
relevant safety instructions and be familiar with the intended use of the
products
● Hardware products have to remain in their original state, in other words,
no structural changes are permitted. The decompilation of software
products or the alteration of source codes is not permitted
● Do not install or operate damaged or faulty products
● Ensure that the products have been installed as described in the rele‐

The machine control panels of the type IndraControl VAM 10.2/VAM 40.2 by
Rexroth are intended for operating control units.

Typical areas of application of the machine control panels IndraControl
VAM 10.2/VAM 40.2 are:

Machine control panels of the type IndraControl VAM 10.2/VAM 40.2 may on‐
ly be operated under the mounting and installation conditions, position, and
the ambient conditions (temperature, degree of protection, humidity, EMC
etc.) specified in the related documentation.
3.2 Unintended use
Any use of IndraControl VAM 10.2/VAM 40.2 in applications other than those
specified above or under operating conditions other than those described in
the documentation and the technical specifications is considered to be "unin‐
tended".
The machine control panels VAM 10.2/VAM 40.2 may not be used if ...
● the machine control panels are exposed to operating conditions which
do not correspond to the specified ambient conditions. Operation under
water, extreme temperature fluctuations or extreme maximum tempera‐
tures
● the intended applications have not expressly been approved by Bosch
Rexroth. Please do observe the general safety instructions!

4 System presentation
4.1 Brief description
Machine control panels supplement operator and visualization terminals.
They are used for the operation mode selection and the manual machine op‐
eration. Thus, the machine control panels contain operating elements, e. g.,
keys with LED displays, rotary switches for feed and spindle override, E-
STOP button, key switch with authorization system and machine button.
The Maschinenbedienfelder VAM 10.2/VAM 40.2 were designed for being
used with the devices of the VPB, VPP, Vxx product family and are adapted
to the design of these devices. The VAM 10.2 width corresponds to the VPP
16 panel PC width. The VAM 40.2 width corresponds to the VPP 40 panel PC
width.
VAM devices are Maschinenbedienfelder for CNC machines with Profibus
connection.

4.3.1 General information
Besides the two previously described standard variants of the VAM 10.2/
VAM 40.2, customized variants of these machine control panels are also
available.

The VAM 10.2 (R911170771 VAM10.2-PB-NB-TA-TA-VA-1608-NN) device
differs from the standard configuration as follows:
● Only one override rotary switch for feed
● The priority switch can only be withdrawn in the switch position "0".
