The operating instructions describe the entire life cycle of the device.
Keep these instructions in a location which is easily accessible to
every user and make these instructions available to every new owner
of the device.

IntendedUse
WARNING!
The device is designed for shutting off or controlling neutral and • aggressive media.
It must not be used in potentially explosive areas.•
During use observe the permitted data, the operating conditions • and conditions of use specified in the contract documents and
operating instructions, as described in chapters 5.Description of
System and 6.Technical Data.
Before using the device outdoors, check the ambient • conditions.
The device may be used only in conjunction with third-party • devices and components recommended and authorised by
Bürkert.
Correct transportation, correct storage and installation as well • as careful use and maintenance are essential for reliable and
problem-free operation.
Use the device only as intended.•
If exporting the device, observe any existing restrictions.
Do not use the plastic ball valve Type 2657 in areas where there is •
a risk of explosion.
Operate the plastic ball valve Type 2657 only with media which do •
not corrode the housing or sealant.
Do not put any loads on the housing (e.g. by placing objects on it •
or standing on it).
Do not make any external modifications to the housing. Do not •
paint the housing parts or screws.

GeneralSafetyInstructions
These safety instructions do not take into account
any contingencies or events which may occur during the instal-•
lation, operation and maintenance of the devices.

sibility of the operator, also with respect to the installation
personnel.
DANGER!
There is a serious risk of injury when reaching into the • equipment.
Before loosening the lines and valves, turn off the pressure and • vent the lines.
Observe the currently valid accident prevention and safety • regulations!
Leaking medium may cause injuries.
Ensure that the pipes have been connected correctly.•
Regularly check that the plastic ball valve is not leaking.•
Wear protective clothing.•

Failure to observe these rules may result in injuries and/or damage
to the device and possibly the area around it as well.
Observe the general rules of technology!•
Take appropriate measures to prevent the equipment from being • unintentionally activated, e.g. by using the safety hand lever with
lock (option)!
CAuTIoN!
If volatile media such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) or sodium
hypochlorite (NaCIO) are used, there is a serious risk of injury. The
media may evaporate causing a dangerous pressure increase in
the empty space between the ball and the housing.

GeneralInformation
The plastic ball valve Type 2657 was developed with due
consideration given to the accepted safety rules and is
state-of-the-art. However, dangers can still arise.
Operate the device only when it is in perfect condition and in
accordance with the operating instructions.
Failure to observe this operating manual and its operating instruc-
tions as well as unauthorized tampering with the device release
us from any liability and also invalidate the warranty covering the
devices and accessories!
Immediately upon receipt of delivery, check that the contents have not
been damaged and that the delivery matches the type and scope of
the delivery note or packing list.

The plastic ball valve Type 2657 (referred to below as plastic ball valve)
can be used for shutting off (2-way model) or controlling (3-way model)
media flows in a wide range of industrial applications.
The plastic ball valve is particularly suitable for application conditions
which make high demands in the areas of thermal or vibration loads
and is also suitable for applications which use aggressive media.
The plastic ball valve for shutting off media flows is available in
various models and materials for a wide range of applications.
The plastic ball valve features a Dual Block locking device.
The Dual Block locking device allows the union nuts of the bolted-on
plastic ball valve to be locked in a specific position. The locking
device then holds the union nuts securely in position for a wide
range of application conditions (vibrations or thermal expansion).
The Dual Block locking device allows clockwise rotations only.
On request the plastic ball valve can be supplied complete
with a pneumatic drive (Types 2658, 8805) or an electric
drive (Type 8804).

DescriptionofSystem
The plastic ball valve is fitted with a rating plate which uniquely iden-
tifies the device and indicates the most important technical data.
Do not remove the rating plate from the plastic ball valve! It
is essential for identification when installing and servicing
the device.

ball valve.

At operating temperatures above 20° C reduce the operating

Installation
WARNING!
Improper installation or assembly may result in injuries as well as
damage to the device and the area around it.
Installation and assembly may be carried out by authorised • technicians only and with the appropriate tools!
WARNING!
Unintentional activation of the equipment during installation work
may result in injuries and/or damage.
Take appropriate measures to prevent the equipment from • being unintentionally activated.
CAuTIoN!
If volatile media such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) or sodium
hypochlorite (NaCIO) are used, there is a serious risk of injury. The
media may evaporate causing a dangerous pressure increase in
the empty space between the ball and the housing.

Depending on the material, install the plastic ball valve according to
the respective installation process.
Procedure for valve and fitting adhesive joints:
Chamfer the pipe ends by approx. 15°.
→
Remove all traces of dirt and grease from the entire length of the →
adhesive joint. Use a clean, absorbent paper towel or a paint brush
which is wetted with cleaning agent.
Repeat the same process on the inside of the socket. Leave the
→
surfaces to dry for several minutes before applying the adhesive.

Installation
Use only those adhesives which are suitable for joining PVC
products.
After applying the adhesive, wait at least 24 hours before con-
→
ducting a pressure test.
Procedure:
Chamfer the pipe ends by approx. 15°.
→
Check outer diameter of pipe / inner diameter of the socket →
according to the following table.

Set the temperature controller of the welding equipment to

250 - 270 °C.
Observe the warming-up time, welding time and cooling- down

time according to the following tables.
Leave the welded joints to cool down always at room
temperature!

Ensure that the plastic ball valve is bonded securely in the pipeline
system.
An appropriate bracket supports the net weight of the plastic ball valve
and absorbs the tension resulting from operation of the system.
The plastic ball valve is attached via an extruded bracket into which
stainless steel threaded bushings can be pressed (accessories).
Attach the plastic ball valve to an appropriate substructure with
→
standard screws.
A mounting plate (Fig. 8:), which is available as an accessory, can be
used for the wall-mounted installation of the 2-way model.
Before fitting the mounting plate to the wall, attach it to the bracket
→
of the plastic ball valve with screws.
The dimensions of the screws required for attachment correspond with
those of the threaded inserts in the ball valve.

There is a serious risk of injury when reaching into the equipment.
Before loosening the lines and valves, turn off the pressure and • vent the lines.
Close the fittings slowly to avoid pressure surges.•
Extreme temperature fluctuations may cause tensions between • pipeline and fitting.
If the pipelines cannot counterbalance these fluctuations, the • fitting may be damaged.
Attach pipelines in such a way that any tensions can be • counterbalanced.
WARNING!

Check that the pipes which are to be connected to the valve are on
→
one level. This will prevent mechanical tension on the screw joint.
Unscrew the union nuts (
→Fig. 2: /13) and push them onto the
pipes.
Bond, weld or screw the connecting parts (
→Fig. 2: /12) of the plastic
ball valve onto the pipe ends.
Also follow the detailed instructions in chapter
7.2.Installation Process.
Place the plastic ball valve between the two connecting parts and
→
tighten the union nuts by hand.
Do not use a tool to tighten the union nuts as their surfaces could
→
be damaged.
If required, attach the pipeline with brackets or use the designated
→
bracket on the plastic ball valve.
Install the appropriate Dual Block locking device for the union nuts
→
(Fig. 2: /16) on the housing.
