5) Theequipmenthasnotbeenassessedasasafety-

6) Installation ofthisequipmentshallbecarriedout by
suitably-trainedpersonnelinaccordancewiththe
applicablecodeof practice.
7) Repairofthisequipment shall onlybecarriedoutby
themanufacturerorinaccordancewiththe
applicablecodeof practice.

Iftheequipmentislikelytocomeintocontact with
aggressivesubstances,thenitistheresponsibilityof
theusertotakesuitableprecautionsthat prevent it
frombeing adverselyaffected,thusensuringthatthe
typeofprotectionisnotcompromised.
“Aggressivesubstances”-e.g. acidicliquidsor
gasesthat mayattackmetals,orsolventsthat may
affectpolymericmaterials.
“Suitableprecautions”-e.g. regularchecksaspart
ofroutineinspectionsorestablishingfromthe
material’sdatasheet thatitisresistanttospecific
chemicals.

ConditionsforIS-mAl Sounder
Theequipmenthasaningress protection rating ofIP65.
However,if ithasbeensuppliedwithoutcableentrydevices,
thentheusershall ensurethatthedevicesthatarefittedwill
providean ingress protectionthatisappropriatetothe
environmentinwhichitisinstalledi.e.IP20 orbetter.If only
oneofthetwocableentriesareused,thentheunusedentry
'knockout'shall beleft intactorfittedwithablanking device
thatensuresingress protectionappropriatetothe
environmentinwhichitisinstalledi.e.IP20orbetter.
Thetotalcapacitanceconnectedtoterminals+wrt-(i.e.the
capacitanceofthecableplusanyothercapacitance)shall
not exceed83nF.
Theequipmentshallnotbedirectlyinstalledinanyprocess
whereitsenclosuremight beelectro-staticallychargedbythe
rapidflowofanon-conductivemedia.

TheIS-mA1soundermaybepoweredfroman ATEX certified
Zenerbarrierorgalvanicisolatorwhichhaveoutput
parametersequaltoorless than28V,93mAand 660mW,
whereIoisresistivelylimited.Thecableparametersstated
ontheselectedZenerbarrierorgalvanicisolatorcertificate
must beobserved.
Uptothree IS-mA1sounderscanbeconnectedinparallel
andpoweredfromacommonbarrierorisolator.Connecting
twosoundersinparallelwillreducetheoutputfromeachby
about3dB.Three soundersshouldonlybepoweredfroma
commonsupplywhenthemaximumsupplyvoltageis
available.
4.4TerminalsS2andS3
WhenterminalsS2orS3areconnectedto0V(-terminal)the
sounderoutputtonechangestothesecondorthirdstage
alarmrespectively.Theinputsafetyparametersforthese
terminalsare:
Ui = 28V
Ii = 0mA
Becausethepermittedinputcurrentiszero,theseterminals
mayonlybeconnectedtoadiodereturnbarrier,an
intrinsicallysaferelayoragalvanicisolator,allofwhichmust
havebeencertifiedbyan ECNotifiedBody.Onlydiodereturn
barrierswithavoltagedrop ofless than0.9Vmaybeused.
Alternatively,theseterminalsmaybeconnecteddirectlytoa
mechanicallyactivatedswitchwithinthehazardousarea.
