Designated use
The CP field bus node type CP-FB5-E described in this manual
has been designed exclusively for use as a slave on the field
bus systems Festo Fieldbus, ABB CS31 and Moeller SU-
COnet K. CP modules from Festo can be connected to CP field
bus node CP-FB5-E. The CP node may only be used as fol-
lows:
– in accordance with designated use
– in its original state
– without any modifications by the user
– in faultless technical condition.
If additional commercially-available components such as sen-
sors and actuators are connected, the specifiedlimits for pres-
sures, temperatures, electrical data, torques, etc. must not
be exceeded.
Please observe the standards specified in the relevant
chapters and comply with technical regulations, as well as
with national and local regulations.
Warning
If to be used as an explosion-protected operating device,
make sure that:
Selectrical contacts are not disconnected under tension
Sthe completely fitted product with all plugs, adapters
and protective caps complies at least with protection
class IP 64.

Target group
This manual is intended exclusively for technicians trained in
control and automation technology, who have experience in
installing, commissioning, programming and diagnosing the
slaves for the field bus systems above.
Service
Please consult your local Festo repair service if you have any
technical problems.
Notes on the use of this manual
This manual contains specific information on installing, com-
missioning, programming and diagnosing CP field bus node
FB5.
Information on further CP modules can be found in the man-
ual for the relevant module. A summary is shown in fig. 0/1.

The following product-specific terms and abbreviations are
used in this manual:

Adigital output
Busy bit Enable bit, for analysing data exchange with the CP system
CP cable Special cable for coupling the various CP modules
CP connection Plug or socket on the CP modules which enables the modules to be
connected with the CP cable
CP modules Common term for various modules which can be incorporated in a CP
system
CP system Complete system consisting of CP field bus node and P modules
Edigital input
I/O modules Common term for the CP modules which provide digital inputs and
outputs (CP input modules and CP output modules)
I/Os digital inputs and outputs
Node CP field bus node with/without field bus connection to which the I/O
modules are connected
Octet Number of address bytes assigned by the CP system
PLC/IPC Programmable logic controller/industrial PC
SAVE button: Save the current string assignment (connected I/Os);
When the CP system is restarted, the last saved string assignment will
be compared with thecurrent string assignment. Deviations will be
indicated by flashing LEDs.
String Total number of I/O modules connected together on one CP connection
of the field bus node
String assignment Total number of all the I/O modules connected via strings to a CP field

1.1 General instructions
Warning
Before undertaking installation and maintenance work,
switch of the following:
Sthe compressed air supply
Sthe operating voltage at the field bus node (pins 1 and 2)
Sthe operating voltage at the CP output modules
You thereby avoid:
– uncontrolled movements of loose tubing
– undesired movements of the connected actuators
– undefined switching states of the electronic components
Caution
The node of the CP system contains electrostatically
vulnerable components.
SDo not therefore touch any components.
SObserve the regulations for handling electrostatically
vulnerable components.
You thereby avoid damage to the electronic components of
the node.
General information on installing CP modules can be found in
the manual “CP system.”

1.2 Setting the DIL switches
TheDILswitchesaresituatedunderthecoverofthefieldbus
node.
Warning
SBefore commissioning:
make sure that the protocol and, if necessary, the baud
rate are correctly set on DIL switch elements 1 .. 6.
SDuring operation:
do not change the DIL switch settings.
You thereby avoid undesired reactions of the connected
actuators.

1.2.1 Setting the field bus address
Please note
The field bus addresses of the CP system cannot be modi-
fied by the master. The CP system can only be addressed
by the field bus address set on the address selector
switch.

Set the field bus address of the CP system with the two round
address selector switches. The switches are numbered from
0..9. The arrow indicates the units or tens figure of the field
bus address which is set.

Summary of the possible field bus addresses
Please note
Field bus addresses may only be assigned once per
master.
Observe any possible limitations regarding the assignment
of field bus addresses by the master.
Recommendation Assign the field bus addresses in ascending order. Where
necessary, assign the field bus addresses to suit the machine
structure of your system.

Proceed as follows:
1. Switch off the operating voltage.
2. Assign an unused field bus address to the CP system.
3. Use a screwdriver to set the arrow on the relevant ad-
dress selector switch to the units and tens figures of the
desired field bus address.
