Funktion und Anwendung
Durch wechselweise Belüftung der
Druckluftanschlüsse bewegt sich der In-
nenläufer im Rohr hin und her. Die Be-
wegung wird durch eine starre Verbin-
dung auf den äußeren Läufer übertra-
gen. Der dazu notwendige Schlitz im
Zylinderrohr wird durch ein Bandsystem
abgedichtet. Der DGPI(L)-... wird platz-
sparend zum pneumatischen Positionie-
ren eingesetzt. Das integrierte Weg-
meßsystem ist vorgesehen zum An-
schluß an den Achscontroller für Tem-
posonics SPC-100-M-...
Voraussetzungen für den
Produkteinsatz
Allgemeine, stets zu beachtende Hin-
weise für den ordnungsgemäßen und si-
cheren Einsatz des Produkts:
•Halten Sie die angegebenen Grenz-
werte ein (z.B. für Drücke, Kräfte,
Momente, Massen, Geschwindigkei-
ten, Temperaturen).
•Sorgen Sie für ordungsgemäß aufbe-
reitete, trockene, ungeölte Druckluft.
•Berücksichtigen Sie die vorherrschen-
den Umgebungsbedingungen.
Function and application
The internal slide moves backwards and
forwards in the barrel by means of air
applied to each side alternately. The
transfer of movement to the outer slide
is made via a fixed coupling. The
necessary slot in the cylinder barrel is
then sealed by a band system.
The DGPI(L)-... is used for space-saving
pneumatic positioning. The integrated
measuring system is intended for con-
nection to the axis controller for Tempo-
sonics SPC-100-M-....
Safety conditions
These general conditions for the correct
and safe use of the product must be ob-
served at all times.
•Please observe the specified limits
(e.g. for pressures, forces, torques,
masses, speeds, temperatures).
•Please ensure that there is a supply
of correctly prepared, dry, non-lubri-
cated compressed air.
•Please observe the prevailing am-
bient conditions.

•Beachten Sie die Vorschriften der Be-
rufsgenossenschaft, des Techn. Über-
wachungsvereins oder entsprechende
nationale Bestimmungen.
•Entfernen Sie alle Transportvorkehrun-
gen wie Schutzwachs, Folien, Kappen,
Kartonagen.
Die Entsorgung der einzelnen Werk-
stoffe in Recycling-Sammelbehälter ist
möglich.
•Behalten Sie trockene, ungeölte Druck-
luft über die gesamte Produktlebens-
dauer bei.
Nur trockene, ungeölte Druckluft erhält
die Lebensdauerschmierung des
DGPI(L)-...
•Belüften Sie Ihre gesamte Anlage lang-
sam. Dann treten keine unkontrollier-
ten Bewegungen auf.
•Bei servopneumatischem Positionieren:
Prüfen Sie für Ihren Einsatzfall die Ein-
haltung folgender Bedingung:
Arbeitshub = 80% der Zylinderlänge.
Bei voller Dynamik sind als Druckluft-
polster mindestens 10% des Zylinder-
volumens in beiden Endlagen nötig.
•Please comply with national and local

•Remove all packaging such as protecti-
ve wax, foils, caps.

•Maintain dry, non-lubricated compres-
sed air during the complete service life
of the product.

complete service life of the DGPI(L)-...
•Slowly pressurize the complete sys-
tem. This will prevent sudden uncon-
trolled movements from occurring.
•With servopneumatic positioning,
check that the working stroke is al-
ways 80% of the cylinder length.
During full dynamic performance, at
least 10% of the cylinder volume is re-
quired for pressure cushioning in both
end positions.

•Berücksichtigen Sie das Gewicht des
DGPI(L)-...:
Er wiegt bis zu 5 kg.
Einbau
mechanisch
•Behandeln Sie den DGPI(L)-... so,
daß keine Schäden am Bandsystem
auftreten.
Diese führen zur Minderung der Be-
triebssicherheit.
•Achten Sie auf einen verzugsfreien
Einbau.
Bei großen Hublängen dient hierzu die
Mittenstütze Typ MUP-...
Die erforderlichen Stützabstände sind
in Bild 6 zusammengestellt.
•Unauthorized product modification is

•Take into account the weight of the
DGPI(L)-...:
It weighs up to 5 kg.
Fitting
Mechanical
•Take care when handling the
DGPI(L)-... to prevent any damage to
the band system.
Damage could impair reliable operati-
on.
•Ensure that the cylinder is fitted free
of distortion.
With long stroke lengths the centre
support type MUP-... should be used.
The required support distances are
shown in Fig. 6.

•Plazieren Sie die Mittenstützen am
DGPI(L)-... nach Bild 7 so, daß diese
nicht in den Verfahrbereich der beweg-
lichen Masse ragen.
Die beim DGPI(L)-32-... und DGPI(L)-
40-... erforderlichen Nutensteine kön-
nen durch Verkippen an jeder Stelle
der Nut eingeklinkt werden.
•Plazieren Sie den Linearantrieb so,
daß Sie stets die Bedienteile erreichen
können.
•Place the centre supports on the
DGPI(L)-... as shown in Fig. 7, so that
they do not project into the positioning
path of the movable mass.
The sliding blocks necessary with
DGPI(L)-32-... and DGPI(L)-40-... can
be clipped into the groove at any posi-
tion by tipping.

•Drehen Sie die Befestigungsschrau-
ben gleichmäßig fest.
Bei einer zusätzlichen Führung der
Nutzlast muß beim DGPI-... der not-
wendige Freiheitsgrad zwischen Läu-
fer und Masse eingehalten werden.
•Plazieren Sie Ihre Nutzlast so auf
dem Läufer, daß das Kippmoment
aus der Kraftkomponente F parallel
zur Zylinderachse und dem Abstand
a klein bleibt.

Bei DGPIL-Zylindern:
•Verwenden Sie Nutensteine vom Typ
NSTL-... zum Anschrauben der Nutz-
last.
Maße der Nutsteine siehe Bild 9.
•Lassen Sie die blauen Kunststoffkap-
pen an den Abschlußdeckeln aufge-
steckt.
Diese schützen die Spannvorrichtung
des Bandsystems vor Verschmutzung.
•Tighten the fastening screws with the
same torque.
If the work load is additionally guided,
the necessary tolerance between the
slide and the load must be maintained.
•Place the work load on the slide so
that the torque from the force compo-
nents "F" remains parallel to the cylin-
der axis and so that distance "a" re-
mains small.

•Use sliding blocks of type NSTL-... for
fastening the work load.

•Leave the blue plastic caps on the
end covers.
These protect the clamping device of
the band system against dirt.

•Prüfen Sie die Notwendigkeit einer
pneumatischen Not-Aus-Schaltung.
•Verwenden Sie ein Proportional-
Wegeventil vom Typ MPYE-... zur
Ansteuerung des DGPI(L)-....
Verschlauchung ohne pneumatische
Not-Aus-Schaltung siehe Bild 10.
Das MPYE-... dient zur Geschwindig-
keitssteuerung und zum Positionieren
von Zylindern.
•Prüfen Sie die Notwendigkeit von ge-
steuerten Rückschlagventilen
Typ HGL-... (mit hohem Durchfluß)
Bei Druckabfall in senkrechter oder
schräger Einbaulage vermeiden Sie
damit ein plötzliches Abgleiten der be-
weglichen Masse.
•Wählen Sie die geeigneten Druckluft-
anschlüsse.
Die Druckluftanschlüsse neben dem
Meßsystemanschluß sind ab Werk
hierfür vorgesehenen. Die Alternativ-
anschlüsse sind mit Blindstopfen ver-
schlossen.
Pneumatic
•Check whether a pneumatic emergen-
cy stop circuit is necessary.
•Use a proportional directional control
valve of type MPYE-... for controlling
the DGPI(L)-.... For connecting the tu-
bing without the emergency stop
circuit see Fig. 10.
The MPYE-... is used for controlling
the speed of cylinders and for posi-
tioning them.
•Check whether open loop controlled
non-return valves Type HGL-... are re-
quired (with a high flow rate).
Use these valves to prevent the mov-
able mass from sliding down suddenly
if there is a drop in pressure when the
cylinder is fitted in a vertical or
diagonal position.
•Select suitable compressed air con-
nections.
The compressed air connections next
to those for the measuring system are
intended for this purpose. The alternati-
ve connections are sealed with blind
plugs.

Beim DGPI(L)-... kann eine der beiden
Zylinderkammern nur über die interne
Luftzuführung belüftet werden.
Beim servopneumatischen Positionieren
ermöglicht die interne Luftzuführung des
DGPI(L)-... gutes Positionierverhalten,
auch bei Zylinderlängen >=600 mm.
elektrisch
•Drehen Sie die mitgelieferte Schraube
mit Schneidgewinde in die Bohrung für
den Erdungsanschluß (10) ein.
Dadurch ist trotz Eloxalschicht der
elektrische Kontakt gewährleistet.
•Verkabeln Sie den Erdungsanschluß
(10) mit Erdpotential.
- Kabelquerschnitt mind. 1,5 mm2
- Kabellänge max. 10 m.
•Verkabeln Sie den Meßsysteman-
schluß mit dem Achscontroller
SPC 100.
Hierzu ist nur das Originalkabel zu ver-
wenden. PIN-Belegung siehe Bild 11.
•Beachten Sie, daß sich der im Kolben
eingebaute Permanentmagnet nur
zum Betrieb des integrierten Meßsy-
stems eignet. Der Einsatz von magne-
tisch betätigten Näherungsschaltern
wird nicht unterstützt.
On the DGPI(L)-..., one of the two cylin-
der chambers can only be pressurized
via the internal air supply.
During servopneumatic positioning, the
internal air supply of the DGPI(L)-... per-
mits accurate positioning, even with cy-
linders longer than 600 mm.
Electric
•Insert the screw with cutting thread
supplied into the hole for the earthing
connection (10) and tighten.
The electrical contact is thereby gua-
ranteed despite the anodized layer.
•Connect the earthing cable (10) to
earth potential.
- cable cross section at least 1.5 mm2
- cable length max. 10 m.
•Connect the measuring system cable
to the axis controller SPC 100.
Only the original cable may be used
here. For pin assignment see Fig. 11.
•Please note that the permanent ma-
gnet fitted in the piston is only suitable
for operating the integrated measuring
system. It is not possible to use ma-
gnetically actuated proximity switches.

Inbetriebnahme
Gesamtanlage
•Belüften Sie Ihre gesamte Anlage lang-
sam.
Zur langsamen Einschaltbelüftung
dient das Sicherheits-Einschaltventil
Typ MFHE-... oder VLHE-...
Einzelgerät
1. Stellen Sie sicher, daß im Verfahr-
bereich des DGPI(L)-...
– niemand in die Laufrichtung der
beweglichen Masse greift (z.B.
durch Schutzgitter)
– sich keine Fremdgegenstände
befinden.
2. Drehen Sie die Stellschrauben für die
Endlagendämpfung ganz zu.
3. Belüften Sie den DGPI(L)-... folgender-
maßen:
– Gleichzeitige Belüftung beider Seiten.
Der Läufer kriecht zunächst gering-
fügig vorwärts bis er in einer Stellung
stehen bleibt.
– Anschließende Entlüftung einer Seite.
Der Läufer fährt in eine Endlage.
Commissioning
Complete system
•Slowly pressurize the complete sy-
stem.
The safety start-up valve type MFHE-
... or VLHE-... should be used for gra-
dual pressurization when starting.
Individual cylinder
1. Make sure that:
– all operating personnel are clear of
the positioning range of the DGPI(L)
(e.g. by means of a protective
screen)
– there are no objects in the path of the
movable mass.
2. Screw in completely the adjusting
screws for the end position cushioning.
3. Pressurize the DGPI(L)-... as follows:
– First pressurize both sides
simultaneously. The slide will creep
forwards at first until it comes to rest
at a position.
– Then pressurize one side.
The slide will move to an end position.
In this way you can prevent excessive

So verhindern Sie hohe Belastungen
am DGPI(L)-... und im Druckluftnetz.
4. Führen Sie einen Probelauf bei
niedrigem Druck durch (z.B. 2 bar).
5. Verwenden Sie Stoßdämpfer, die je
nach Anwendung über den gesamten
Hub verschiebbar sind.
Diese verhindern Folgeschäden an
der Peripherie bei auftretenden Bedien-
oder Systemfehlern.
6. Prüfen Sie, ob der vorgesehene Arbeits-
hub innerhalb der geforderten Grenzen
liegt (max. 80% der Zylinderlänge).
Bei Zylindern mit einer Zylinderlänge
< 360 mm:
Bei diesen Zylindern wird der Arbeits-
hub eventuell durch die Endlagen-
dämpfung weiter eingeschränkt.
Bei voller Dynamik darf der Dämpfungs-
weg nicht in den Arbeitshub hinein-
ragen.
Bei Nutzlasten, die in Längsrichtung
über den Läufer ragen:
In diesem Fall dürfen die Stell-
schrauben für die Endlagendämpfung
nur bei Stillstand des DGPI(L)-... ver-
dreht werden.

4. Carry out a test run at low

ing on application, can be shifted over
the whole stroke length.
These prevent consequent damage to
the periphery when operating or system
errors occur.
6. Check that the intended working stroke
lies within the required limits (max. 80%
of the cylinder length).
With cylinders shorter than 360 mm the
working stroke may be further limited by
the end position cushioning.
During full dynamic performance, the
cushioning path must not project into
the working stroke.
In the case of loads projecting beyond
the length of the slide, the adjusting
screws for the end position cushioning
may be adjusted only when the
DGPI(L)-... has stopped.

Operation
•Make sure that:
– nobody can place his/her hand in
the positioning range of the
DGPI(L)-...
– and that there are no objects in the
path of the movable mass.
Manual intervention of the
DGPI(L)-... should not be possible
until the movable mass has come to
a complete standstill.
Under heavy load or at high slide
speed:
•Always use suitable shock absorbers
or stops.
The internal end position cushioning
can cushion the masses listed in the
following diagram at the speeds speci-
fied. Without external cushioning de-
vices, the cylinder will be damaged if
the masses and speeds quoted here
are exceeded.
Make sure that, even when faults oc-
cur, the permitted forces, energies and
torques of the cylinders and shock ab-
sorbers are not exceeded.
Bedienung und Betrieb
•Stellen Sie sicher, daß im Verfahrbe-
reich des DGPI(L)-...
– niemand in die Laufrichtung der
beweglichen Masse greifen kann
– und keine Fremdgegenstände dort-
hin gelangen.
Erst wenn die Masse zum völligen
Stillstand gekommen ist, soll ein
Greifen an den DGPI(L)-... möglich
sein.
Bei großer Nutzlast oder hoher Läufer-
Geschwindigkeit:
•Verwenden Sie geeignete Stoßdämp-
fer oder Anschläge.
Die interne Endlagendämpfung (PPV)
ist in der Lage, die in folgendem Bild
aufgeführten Massen bei den angege-
benen Geschwindigkeiten zu dämpfen.
Ohne externe Abfangvorrichtungen
kann die Überschreitung der hier ange-
gebenen Massen und Geschwindigkei-
ten zur Zerstörung des Zylinders füh-
ren.
Stellen Sie sicher, daß auch bei auftre-
tenden Störungen die zulässigen Kräf-
te, Energien und Momente von Zylin-
dern und Stoßdämpfern nicht über-
schritten werden.

Wartung und Pflege
•Reinigen Sie im Falle von Verschmut-
zungen das Bandsystem von außen
mit einem weichen Lappen.
Zulässige Reinigungsmedien sind alle
werkstoffschonenden Medien.

outside with a soft cloth.

mage the material is permitted.

•Schmieren Sie entfettete Oberflächen
von Führungsschiene oder Bandsy-
stem mit Schmierfett "Esso Beacon 2".
Damit erneuern Sie Feuchtigkeits-
schutz und Gleitfähigkeit am
DGPI(L)-...
•Schmieren Sie bei drucklosem
DGPIL-... die Führung mit "Schmier-
fett KP2K" (nach DIN 51 852) an allen
vier Schmiernippeln (6), während Sie
den Läufer von Hand bewegen. Sonst
füllen sich die Fetträume nicht
gleichmäßig.
Schmierintervalle bei hohen Belastun-
gen:
– alle 400 km Laufstrecke. Dazu ist
eine Fettpresse mit Nadelspitz
Mundstück (A) nach DIN 1283
erforderlich.
•Lubricate ungreased surfaces of the
guide rail or band system with "Esso
Beacon 2".
In this way you can renew the moistu-
re protection and sliding quality of the
DGPI(L)-....
•Switch off the compressed air and
grease the guide with "Lubricating
grease KP2K" (as per DIN 51 852) on
all four lubricating nipples (6) at the
same time moving the slide by hand.
Otherwise the grease will not be distri-
buted evenly.
Lubricating periods under heavy loads:
– after every 400 km traversed.
A pressure grease gun with pinpoint
nozzle (A) as per DIN 1283 is
necessary here.

Ausbau und Reparatur
Bei Auftreten von Störungen am
DGPI(L)-...:
•Prüfen Sie zunächst anhand der Hin-
weise in Abschnitt "12. Störungsbesei-
tigung", ob eine Reparatur erforderlich
ist. Schicken Sie ggf. den DGPI(L)-...
zur Reparatur an Festo.
•Belassen Sie alle Befestigungsschrau-
ben am DGPI(L)-... ungelöst.
Dadurch vermeiden Sie Fehlfunktio-
nen und Beschädigung des integrier-
ten Wegmeßsystems.

If faults occur on the DGPI(L)-...
•Check first with the instructions in
Section 12 "Eliminating faults", to
ascertain if repair is necessary. If this
is the case, return the DGPI(L)-... to
Festo for servicing.
•Leave all fastening screws on the
DGPI(L)-... tightened.
In this way you can avoid incorrect fun-
ctioning and damage to the integrated
measuring system.
