PostBase mailing system with Dynamic Scale

1 Safety tips
The PostBase with Dynamic Scale is a digital mailing system with ink-jet print
technology for metering mail. The PostBase with Dynamic Scale complies with
the pertinent safety regulations for office information equipment.
Please observe the following tips for your own safety:
Prevention of electrical hazards
• Operate the PostBase mailing system only on a grounded single-phase power
socket. Make sure your office power supply conforms to the power requirements
indicated on the serial number plates.
• Make sure the sockets for connecting the mailing system are close by and easily
accessible at all times.
• Unplug the plugs of all mailing system components in case of an emergency.
Call the Customer Support.
• Take special care that no foreign objects penetrate the mailing system’s interior.
• Be extremely careful when handling liquids.
• When filling with sealing liquid, make sure not to wet any parts connected to the
mains.
• Unplug the plugs of all components prior to cleaning the PostBase mailing system.
Prevention of mechanical hazards
• Keep long hair, fingers, loose clothing pieces, neck ties, shawls, jewelry and the like
away from moving machine parts.
• Do not remove any parts of the housing.
• Do not remove any equipment related to safety or protection. Do not make them
inoperative or unable to function.
Accessories and consumables
• We recommend to use only approved FP equipment and FP original parts. The
manufacturer FP has established reliability, safety and applicability.
The manufacturer cannot assess the reliability, safety and applicability for products
not approved by FP, and therefore not vouch for such products. The full functioning
of the PostBase mailing system at the time of delivery can only be guaranteed
when using original Francotyp-Postalia ink cartridges.
• Use the supplied power and connection cables or cables that have been approved
by Francotyp-Postalia. Make sure that cables are not damaged.

Safety tips 5
• Ingestion of the ink can be hazardous. Avoid contact with the eyes. Keep the ink
cartridges away from children. Further instructions for use are enclosed with the ink
cartridges.
• We recommend to use only the batteries provided by Francotyp-Postalia.
The manufacturer FP has established reliability, safety and applicability. Observe
the instructions enclosed with the battery for correct use and disposal.
General safety tips
• Install the PostBase mailing system with Dynamic Scale according to the
instructions.
• The PostBase mailing system is not intended for use in the immediate vicinity of a
VDU workstation. To prevent distracting reflections on a VDU workstation, this
product must not be placed in the immediate field of vision.
• Do not use attached parts like the weighing platform, label compartment, display,
drawer, … as ‘handles’ during transport. The best way to handle the components
is to hold them at the lower part of the housing at the clearances on both sides.
• When you move the PostBase from a cold environment (i.e. below 10 °C / 50 °F):
Unpack the PostBase and wait at least 2 hours before connecting the PostBase.
The PostBase requires this period to adapt to the ambient conditions. Any conden-
sation evaporates.
• The Feeder plus with Ramp plus and the Dynamic Scale are intended exclusively
for operation with the PostBase franking machine. It is not permissible to operate
these system components without the PostBase franking machine.
• Only connect the Feeder plus to the Ramp plus.
• The Ramp plus is intended exclusively for operation with the Feeder plus.
• When a letter or letter stack is inserted, letter transport will start automatically after
a short delay: The transport elements (rollers and conveyor belts) move. Do not be
startled.
• Do not touch the moving transport elements (rollers and conveyor belts) when letter
transport is in progress. Do not attempt to block these.
• Have maintenance and repair work done only by qualified personnel authorized by
Francotyp-Postalia. Otherwise, your warranty may become void.

2.1 Things worth knowing about the PostBase mailing system
with Dynamic Scale
System configuration The mailing system described in these instructions con-
sists of the following components:
– PostBase Ramp plus
– PostBase Feeder plus with sealer
– PostBase Dynamic Scale
– PostBase franking machine with integrated static scale
– Catch tray.
You can find overviews of the individual system

Functions The PostBase mailing system with Dynamic Scale
supports all functions available in the basic version,
and also enables you to process mixed letter mail
from a stack.
Dynamic weighing
and franking
In order to process your mixed letter mail, activate
dynamic weighing when selecting the product from the
product calculation menu – easily, without entering any
further settings for the Dynamic Scale.
Place the letter stack on the Ramp plus, the Feeder plus
separates the mail pieces from the stack, moistens and
seals the envelope flaps (if the sealing function is acti-
vated) and transfers them to the Dynamic Scale.
The Dynamic Scale (suitable for mail pieces up to 1 kg /
2 lb) determines the format and weight of each mail
piece during transport from the Feeder plus to the frank-
ing machine, and transfers both values to the franking
machine. On the basis of the set mailing data and the
current weight and format information from the Dynamic
Scale, the PostBase sets the corresponding postage for
franking.
With products for which no dynamic weighing is availa-
ble, use the static scale integrated in the franking
machine or enter the weight by hand. A symbol in the
Home screen displays the current weighing mode at all
times.
Equipment / options For information on the equipment variants and options
available in your country, please read the country-specific
addendum to the PostBase operator manual.
The ‘differential weighing’ option is not available for the
PostBase mailing system with Dynamic Scale.

Installation and commissioning 13
3 Installation and commissioning
Caution! Carry out the steps for commissioning the PostBase mailing system
with Dynamic Scale in precisely the given order. Only in this way it is possible
to ensure the successful commissioning of your mailing system.
In order to retrofit the Feeder plus and Dynamic Scale to a PostBase
mailing system that is already in operation, follow the procedure for first
commissioning as closely as possible. First commissioning of the franking
machine (steps 2 to 5) are unnecessary in this case.
Before retrofitting, run through the REMOTE SERVICES menu function.
In this way you can be sure that your PostBase franking machine is operating
with the latest machine software, and that it will recognise the new compo-
nents without difficulty.
In case of questions, please contact the Francotyp-Postalia Customer
Support.
Step 1: Unpacking and checking the contents of the package
Warning! Do not start operating the
PostBase mailing system if parts are
damaged or missing. Please contact the
Francotyp-Postalia Customer Support.
• Unpack all packages.
• Check that the contents of the packages
are complete and free from any damage.
(For scope of supply see page 14).
Keep the packing. Use it again if you need to
transport the mailing system or send it in to
the Customer Support.

Installation and commissioning 15
Step 2: Assembling the PostBase
Installation site The location of the PostBase mailing system
with Dynamic Scale must fulfil the following
requirements:
– Firm, level, low vibration and horizontal
base, which offers sufficient space for the
complete mailing system.
We recommend installation on a table or
base unit with a tabletop surface at least
2.0 m × 0.80 m (80" × 20").
– Room temperature within a range of
15 °C to 35 °C (59 °F to 95 °F).
– No direct sunlight.
– Relative humidity within a range of 15 % to
80 %, non-condensing.
– Power socket in the immediate vicinity.
– Network connection with internet access.
• Place the PostBase franking machine on a
suitable surface.

• Press down slightly on the weighing plat-
form with your flat hand.
Assembling the catch tray
• Attach the stop to the catch tray:
Slide the stop into the guides on the catch
tray bottom.
• Place the catch tray next to the franking

• Slightly lift the franking machine on the
right side. The bottom side of the housing
features slots where the attachments are
fastened.
• Push the catch tray underneath the frank-
ing machine such that the catches engage
in the slots.
• Put the franking machine carefully down.

PostBase is close by and easily accessible
at all times.
Caution! When you move PostBase from a
cold environment (i.e. below 10 °C / 50 °F):
Unpack the PostBase and wait at least
2 hours before connecting PostBase.
PostBase requires this period to adapt to
the ambient conditions.
