4. Information and notes before initial startup
Note –Optimising reception
•Please note:
•Always pullthe antenna out completely.
•We recommend you adjust the antenna vertically to
ensureoptimal reception.
•Tryvarious different positions if necessary to get the
best reception.
5. Getting started
5.1 Remote control
•Open the battery compartment cover located on the rear
of the remote control.
•Pull the closing tab back (if present) and lift the cover.
With other models of remote control, it suces to simply
push the casing in the direction indicated.

•Insert the batteries provided, making sureyou match the
polarities correctly.The correct polarity is indicated by the
plus and minus symbols in the battery compartment.
5.2 Radio –Connecting and starting up
Connect the power cable to aproperly installed and easily
accessible power socket.
The power supply unit is suitable for mains voltages
between 100 and 240 V, and is thus operable on almost
any AC power grid. Please note that acountry-specic
adapter may be necessary.

Note
•Connect the product to asocket that has been
approved for the device.
•When using amulti-socket power strip, make sure
that the sum power draw of all the connected devices
does not exceed its maximum throughput rating.
•The electrical socket must always be easily accessible.
•If you will not be using the product for along period
of time, disconnect it from mains power.
Once the product has been connected to mains power,
initialisation takes place.
5.3 General notes on use
Notes on use
•These operating instructions always relate to
operation using the controls on the device. Functions
that areonly usable by remote control areexplained
separately.
•The buttons on the remote control and their functions
(≙)correspond to the control buttons on the device.
Formoreinformation, see Controls and Displays.
•[OK] and the navigation button ►on the remote
control correspond to pressing [enter/navigate].
•The navigation button ◄on the remote control has
the same function as [back] on the front of the radio.
•The navigation buttons ▲/▼correspond to turning
[enter/navigate] to the left and right on the front of
the radio.
•In menus offering avariety of different options (for
example, DRC, Language, etc.), the option currently
selected is marked with an asterisk (*).
•When aselection is to be made between different
buttons (for example, YesorNo), the selected button
is marked with <>.
Navigation and controls
•Choose between individual menu items by turning [enter/
navigate].
•Press [enter/navigate] to conrm your selection.
This procedureisindicated in these operating instructions

Adjusting/muting the volume
•Youcan turn the volume up or down by turning the
[volume -/+] /[ ]right or left respectively.
•Press [MUTE] on the remote control to mute the radio.
•Press [MUTE] again to reset the volume to the level it was
at beforethe radio was muted.
Additional information
Press [info] to display context-dependent additional
information. The information shown depends on the
operating mode as well as the current choice of radio
station, music le, etc.

•Description
Indicates the radio station, the current program, contents,
subjects, etc.
•Program genre/country
Indicates the genre(music style) and the country or region
of the station.
•Bit rate
The current digital bit rate of the station currently being
received.
•Codec
Species the encoding scheme used to digitise the data or
signal (such as MP3 or WMA).
•Sampling rate
Species the sampling rate, or the frequency with which
the audio signal is polled in acertain period of time.
•Playback buffer
The signal strength of the current station is indicated by
the length of the bar display.
•Today’sdate
•Time
•Signal error
•Service not available
Is displayed if thereiscurrently no DABreception.
•Switching on/off/standby
Press [volume -/+] /[ ]toturn the radio on or off
(standby).
To completely switch off the device, disconnect it from the
power supply.
5.4 Initial setup
Astation search in DABoperating mode is automatically
started when you switch the radio on for the rst time.
English is the default language for the radio’s menu
navigation. Youcan set your required language as
described in 13.3 Language.

7. DAB
The radio receives all the conventional digital radio
frequencies in arange from 174 MHz to 240 MHz (band
III, channels 5A to 13F).
•Enable DABoperating mode on the radio by repeatedly
pressing [mode]:

•Alternatively,press [DAB] on the remote control to switch
directly to this operating mode.
7.1 Suchlauf/ Automatischer Suchlauf
The automatic DABchannel search scans DABband III for
available stations. After the station search, all interference-
free stations aresaved in alphabetical order.
In the station list, a?isdisplayed in front of the station
names of stations found during aprevious scan but which
cannot currently be received.
The automatic DABstation search starts automatically
when DABmode is started for the rst time; it is indicated
by Search... and astatus bar on the display.
If you would like to start the search again, proceed as
follows:

7.2 Station list
Youcan call up the station list in DABmode at any time.
Thereare two options for doing this.
a) If astation is already playing, simply turn [enter/
navigate]. The radio willthen display the station list.
b)

7.3 Cleaning up the station list
To remove stations that arenot currently in the reception
area from your station list, proceed as follows:

If you answer [YES], then all currently unavailable stations
willberemoved from the station list.

7.4 Favourites
Youcan save up to 30 of your favourite stations for quick
and direct access.
7.4.1 Saving favourites
•Set the station that you would like to save as afavourite
station preset.
•When the station is displayed, press and hold [memory]
on the front of the radio.

After approx. 2seconds, an overview window with the
favourites slots opens.
•Turn [enter/navigate] to switch between the slots (1 to
30).
•Press [enter/navigate] to storethe station in the desired
favourites slot.
7.4.2 Opening favourites
Press [memory] to open the overview window with the list
of favourite stations.

Use [enter/navigate] to select one of your favourites.
Note
Favourites cannot be deleted.
If all 10 station memory slots are lled and you wish to
save anew station, choose one of the occupied slots.
The station in this slot will be overwritten with the new
station.
7.4.3 Managing favourites with the remote control
Favourites 1-10
•The included remote control has number keys
•from 1to0(0 ≙10). Each of these number keys can be
assigned with afavourite (for each reception mode).
•To save astation, press and hold the corresponding
number key on the remote control (approx. three
seconds).
•The radio conrms that the favourite has been saved with
the message „Preset stored” on the display.
•To call the favourite again, brieypress the
corresponding number key on the remote control.
Favourites 1–30 (alternative to number buttons)
•To storeastation on favourites slots 1to30, press and
hold [FAVORITES] (approx. three seconds). After two
seconds, an overview window with the favourites slots
opens.
•Use the favourites buttons [+] /[-] (turn [enter/navigate])
to switch between the slots (1 to 30).
•Press [OK] ([enter/navigate]) to storethe station in the
desired favourites slot.
•To then open the favourites, brieypress [FAVORITES],
use the favourites buttons [+] /[-] (turn [enter/navigate])
to select the desired favourite and conrm your selection
by pressing [OK] ([enter/navigate]).
7.5 DRC (Dynamic Range Control)
Some DABnetwork radio stations support avolume control
featurethat actively takes effect during playback. If the
volume suddenly increases, DRC automatically lowers it. If
the volume suddenly becomes quieter,DRC automatically
raises it. The same happens when playback is suddenly
quiet. The radio then increases the volume again.
DRC high: total equalisation of different volumes. Strong
compression can audibly reduce the dynamics of apiece
of music.
DRC low: partial equalisation of different volumes. More
subtle compression, without too much loss of dynamics.
DRC off: no equalisation.

Enable FM operating mode on the radio by repeatedly
pressing [mode]:

Alternatively,press [FM] on the remote control
to switch to this operating mode directly.
8.1 Search setting
The search setting allows you to determine whether
stations with low signal strength areignored during the
automatic search.
Proceed as follows:

Scan setting
•To have the search stop only at stations with astrong
signal, select Only strong stations. Otherwise, the
search run will stop at every station for which asignal is
received.
8.2 Automatic station search
•Press and hold [enter/navigate] until the automatic
station search starts.
•The radio stops the search and starts playback when it
nds astation.
•Press [enter/navigate] to continue the search until the
next station is found.
8.3 Manual station search
When you make station settings manually,you can dene
the desired frequency yourself and tune into stations that
wereignored during the automatic station search because
their signals weretoo weak.
•Turn [enter/navigate] (left: -0.05 MHz/ right: +0.05)
until you see the desired frequency.Wait amoment until
playback of the received station signal begins.
8.4 Favourites
Youcan save up to 10 of your favourite stations for quick
and direct access.
8.4.1 Saving favourites
•Set the station that you would like to save as afavourite
station preset.
•When the station is displayed, press and hold [memory]
on the front of the radio.

8.5 Audio settings
Forsome stations with aweak signal, quality can be
improved slightly by playing them in mono. Youcan enable
this function in the menu (Mono only), and the radio
will automatically switch to mono reception when signal
quality is poor.
To change this option, proceed as follows:

9. Auxiliary Input
Youcan use the analogue audio input (AUX IN socket) to
connect mobile devices (for example, smartphone, tablet
PC, MP3 player,etc.) to the radio and play your audio les
using the radio.
•Enable AUX operating mode on the radio by repeatedly
pressing [mode]:

Alternatively,press [AUX] on the remote control
to switch to this operating mode directly.
•Connect your mobile device to the audio input (AUX IN
socket) of the radio using a3.5 mm audio cable (jack
cable).
•Start and control audio playback using the controls on
the connected terminal device.

10. Bluetooth
Youcan pair your terminal device with the radio using
Bluetooth and use it as aplayback device. Youcan control
playback directly on the terminal device. Youcan adjust the
volume on the radio, as well.
Note –Bluetooth
•Check whether your mobile device (smartphone,
tablet, etc.) is Bluetooth-capable.
•Note that the maximum range for Bluetooth is 10
metres without obstacles such as walls, people, etc.
•The Bluetooth connection may be disrupted by other
Bluetooth devices/connections in the vicinity.
•It is only possible to connect the radio to one terminal
device.
•Note that compatibility depends on the supported
Bluetooth proles as well as the Bluetooth versions
being used. (see technical specications, operating
instructions of the terminal device in use)
Enable Bluetooth operating mode on the radio by
repeatedly pressing [mode]:

10.1 Bluetooth pairing
•Make surethat your Bluetooth-capable terminal device is
on and Bluetooth is activated.
•Open the Bluetooth settings on your terminal device and
wait until DR1610BTS appears in the list of Bluetooth
devices found.
•If necessary,start searching for Bluetooth devices on your
terminal device.
•Select DR1610BTS and wait until the radio is shown as
connected in the Bluetooth settings on your terminal
device.
•Your terminal device is also shown as connected on the
radio display.
•Start and control audio playback using the controls of the
terminal device.
Note –Bluetooth Password
Some terminal devices requireapasswordinorder to
connect to another Bluetooth device.
•If your terminal device requests apasswordfor
connection to the radio, enter 0000.
10.2 Automatic Bluetooth connection
(after successful pairing)
•Terminal devices already paired with the radio are
automatically saved on the radio.
•If you arepairing the terminal device with the radio for
the rst time, proceed as described in 10.1. Bluetooth
pairing.
•Make surethat your Bluetooth-capable terminal device is
on and Bluetooth is activated.
•The devices will be automatically connected.
•If necessary,open the Bluetooth settings on your terminal
device and select DR1610BTS.
•Start and control audio playback using the controls of the
terminal device.
Note –impaired connection
After the radio and terminal device have been paired, a
connection is established automatically.Ifthe Bluetooth
connection is not established automatically,check the
following:
•Check the Bluetooth settings on your terminal device
to see whether DR1610BTS is connected. If not, repeat
the steps listed under Bluetooth pairing.
•Check whether your terminal device and the radio are
less than 10 metres apart. If not, move the devices
closer together.
•Check whether obstacles areimpairing the range. If
so, move the devices closer together.

11. Snooze
The radio has atimer function, which switches the radio to
standby mode after apre-dened length of time.
•Repeatedly press [SNOOZE] on the remote control to
set the desired time interval (off/15/30/45/60/90/120
minutes).
[SNOOZE]
•Once the pre-set interval has elapsed, the radio switches
to standby mode.
•Press [volume -/+] /[ ]toturn the radio back on.
•If atime interval is already activated, you can change or
disable it (off) at any time by pressing [SNOOZE] again.
Note
The backlight for when the timer function is activated
(snooze) can be set separately; for example, it can be
darker than in normal mode (see 13.7 Backlight).
12. Alarm clock
The radio allows you to set two different alarm times.
12.1 Settings
The conguration of alarm 1and alarm 2isidentical. They
allow two alarm times to be saved independently.Select
alarm 1or2byrepeatedly pressing [alarm] and pressing
[enter/navigate] to conrm, and then congurethe
following settings using [enter/navigate].

Alarm clock:
•Select On to congurethe alarm settings. The alarm
clock is activated automatically when you nish
conguring the settings.
•Select Off to deactivate the selected alarm and its
settings.
Time On:
Select the hours for the alarm time rst, and then the
minutes.
Duration:
Select atime interval (15/30/45/60/90 minutes). The alarm
remains active for the selected time interval.
Source:
Set whether you wish to be woken by an alarm tone
(buzzer), DABorFM.
Programme:
If you selected DAB/FM, choose which station you wish
to be woken with. Youcan choose any of the 10 favourite
station slots or the Last listened.
Mode:
Choose when the alarm is to activate:
→Daily –Once –Onweekends –Onweekdays
Days:
If you selected Once, enter the date for the one-off alarm.
Volume:
Select the volume with which you would like to be woken.
This setting makes it irrelevant how loud you last listened
to the radio.
Note
•We recommend allowing automatic time updates.
This ensures that the time is always updated, even
after the power supply is disconnected –for example,
if the power fails.

12.2 Activating/deactivating the alarm
•Select alarm 1or2by repeatedly pressing [alarm] or by
turning [enter/navigate] and the option Alarm on/Alarm
off to activate or deactivate the selected alarm (1/2).
•The alarm icon 1/2is displayed when the alarm
function is activated.
12.3 Activating/deactivating the alarm in standby
mode
•Press [alarm] in standby mode to display the current
alarm setting.
•Press [alarm] again or turn [enter/navigate] to activate/
deactivate alarm 1and/or alarm 2.
•Press [enter/navigate] to conrm your settings.
12.4 Stopping the alarm/snooze
•When the alarm sounds, press [volume -/+] /
•[]tostop the alarm.
•Repeatedly press [SNOOZE] on the remote control to
activate the snooze function.
•The alarm turns off for the selected time interval (5/10
minutes) beforeactivating once again.
•If the alarm is not stopped, the radio automatically
switches to standby mode after the preset time interval
(duration).
13. System settings
In the system settings, you can congureall settings and
access important information about the radio.
13.1 Equaliser
The equaliser allows you to adjust the sound of the radio
to suit your preferences by amplifying or reducing the
amount of bass or treble in the audio.
Youcan choose from precongured proles, adjusted to
suit avariety of music genres, or create your own custom
prole.
•To change the equaliser settings, proceed as follows:

•Use [enter/navigate] to choose one of the precongured
proles.
•To create your own equaliser prole, choose the option
My EQ... .
•This opens the Bass and levels settings.
•To change avalue, press [enter/navigate] on your
selected setting and change the values by turning [enter/
navigate] to the left or right. If playback is already
started when you modify these settings, you can hear the
changes in the audio immediately.
•Conrm your settings by pressing [enter/navigate] again.
•After conguring all the settings, press [menu] on the
radio and conrm the settings.

13.2 Time settings
To access the time settings, proceed as follows:

Update all/of DAB/of FM
If the automatic time and date update is activated, the
device receives time and date information from the station
over the FM/DAB/DAB+ radio network. This is the best
way to ensurethat the clock runs accurately and the alarm
triggers at the correct time, even after power outages.
No update
The time and date (DD-MM-YYYY/MM-DD-YYYY) must
be set manually because they arenot synchronised
automatically.
Setting the time/date
Set the date (DD-MM-YYYY/MM-DD-YYYY) and time
(hh:mm) manually using [enter/navigate].
Set 12/24-hour
Choose between 12-hour and 24-hour time formats.
Set date format
Choose between the date formats DD-MM-YYYY and MM-
DD-YYYY.
13.3 Language
To change the menu language set beforeorwhile starting
the radio up for the rst time, proceed as follows:

13.4 Factory settings
To reset the radio to the factory default settings, proceed
as follows:

Factory reset
•Conrm the next prompt with YES to reset the radio
to the factory default settings. Allsettings you made are
deleted.
Note
•Resetting to the factory default settings can solve
some problems and malfunctions.
•However,all settings made previously,such as
favourites and station lists, arepermanently deleted.

13.5 Software updates
We areconstantly developing new softwarefeatures
and improvements for our radios to xproblems, add
functionality,etc.
We recommend that you keep your radio’s softwareupto
date.

13.7 Backlight
Activate brightness sensor
•Move the sliding switch (18) to the ON position.
•The brightness of the display is now automatically
adjusted according tothe ambient brightness.
Deactivate brightness sensor
•Move the sliding switch (18) to the OFF position.
The backlight can be congured separately for each
operating mode (playback mode, standby mode and
snooze mode).
•Proceed as follows:

•Select the different brightness levels for the operating
modes Power on and Slumber mode.
•ForStandby mode, you can also choose abrightness
level for the backlight when the radio is in standby.
•Choose atime interval under Timeout. When the radio is
in standby,press any button (apart from [volume -/+] /
[]) to illuminate the display at the brightness level set
for that operating mode for the selected interval of time.
•If you press [alarm], the display lights up, and you can
also –asdescribed in 11.3 Activating/deactivating the
alarm in Standby mode –display and set the current
snooze setting.
•Alternatively,press [ ]onthe remote control to directly
adjust the backlight setting for the current operating
mode.
13.8 AUX: Auto standby
In Aux in (Auxiliary input) operating mode, the radio
switches to standby mode after 15 minutes by default.
14. Wall mounting
Note
•Ensurethat the mount you have chosen can carry a
load of at least 2.0 kg.
•Followthe directions and safety notes in the
mounting bracket documentation.
•With the correct mounting bracket (such as Hama item
no. 00118031), you can mount the radio to the wall.
•When doing so, use the mounting holes (20) on the rear
of the radio.

15. Care and Maintenance
•Only clean this product with aslightly damp, lint-free
cloth and do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
•If you do not use the product for along time, turn off the
device and disconnect it from the power supply.Storeit
in aclean, dry place out of direct sunlight.
