1 GENERAL REMARKS
You have just bought an item of Class III Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
that protects against life-threatening risks and we are grateful for your trust. To
ensure that this product gives complete satisfaction, BEFORE EVERY USE, please
follow the instructions in this manual.
This manual is for a self-retracting lifeline manufactured as described herein and
in the list of products referred to in Appendix 1.

This device is an EN360:2002-type fall protection system, in other words a
personal fall protection system that stops falls and limits the impact stresses on
the user’s body when the fall is stopped by the use of an energy absorption feature
(< 6 kN).
It has been subjected to a standard CE inspection by a Notified Body See
Appendix 5 which awarded a CE certificate proving that the overall product,
including its instructions, complies with Directive 89/686/CEE and that
it achieves the following performance levels in compliance with standard
EN360.2002.
NOTE:
Failure to follow the instructions set forth in this manual may have serious
consequences. You are advised to re-read these instructions on a regular basis.
Moreover, neither the manufacturer nor their representative can accept any
responsibility if the product is used, stored or maintained in a manner other than
as described in this instruction manual.
In addition, the product warranty depends on the manufacturer’s instructions
being followed. Failure to observe these instructions renders the warranty null and
void. This warranty applies solely to the person purchasing the product from the
manufacturer, except in the event of contractual provisions to the contrary agreed
by the manufacturer.

WHERE POSSIBLE, IT IS HIGHLY ADVISABLE TO ALLOCATE THE PPE TO A
SINGLE USER. IN THE EVENT OF THE PRODUCT BEING RE-SOLD OUTSIDE THE
INITIAL COUNTRY OF DESTINATION, FOR THE USER’S SAFETY, THE RESELLER
MUST CHECK THAT THE PRODUCT.
CONFORMS TO THE LEGISLATION APPLICABLE LOCALLY AND SUPPLY
AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL IN THE LANGUAGE OF THE PRODUCT USER
THAT SATISFIES ALL THE REQUIREMENTS OF STANDARD EN360 AND THE
APPLICABLE LEGISLATION.
LIMITS OF USE:
This lifeline system:
• does not stop a free fall but does limit its extent;
• allows the user to reach areas or take up positions where there is a risk of falling,
but halts it if a fall occurs;
• ensures suspension once the fall is halted.
A lifeline system must be used that prevents the user from hitting the ground, the
structure or any other obstacle (Take into account the risk from the pendulum
effect) (see Fig. 1). The risk of injury increases in the event of major offsets (see
Fig. 2a, values in grey text in the table). The necessary clearance below the
user’s feet must be calculated (see paragraph 7.5).
PRODUCT COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER ITEMS OF PPE (HARNESS, ANCHORS
AND CONNECTORS):
CHECK THAT THE PPE THAT YOU HAVE JUST BOUGHT IS COMPATIBLE
WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE
FALL PROTECTION SYSTEM AND THAT THEIR SAFETY FEATURES DO NOT
INTERFERE WITH EACH OTHER.
A fall protection harness is the only device suitable for use with this lifeline system.
It must comply with EN 361/EN 358.
The anchor device to which the system is connected must comply with EN 795.
Structural anchor points (i.e., devices fixed permanently to a structure such as a
wall, post etc) may also be used. The connectors must comply with EN 362.
2 TRAINING
Our products are reserved for competent users with the appropriate training
(delivered by an accredited trainer or body) or under the supervision of a
competent manager.
Training must lead to a certificate indicating the date, place, trainer's name and
company name or the name of the training body, the user's full name etc.
Get training in the use of this PPE and ensure that you fully understand how it
works (see paragraph 7).
A good physical condition is required for working at height. Some medical
contraindications (use of medicines, a cardiovascular condition etc.) may be
detrimental to the user's safety in normal use of the PPE or in an emergency. If in
doubt, speak to your doctor.
3 COMPLIANCE WITH EN 360: 2002
Self-retracting lifelines compliant with the current European standard EN360 are
sub-systems of fall protection systems as covered in EN 363 when combined with
a harness compliant with EN 361.

Correct storage of your PPE will ensure a longer useful life for the
product and guarantee your safety.
When transporting and storing your PPE, keep it away from any
source of heat, humidity, corrosive atmosphere, ultraviolet rays etc. and protect it
from any impact or intense vibration. See Fig. 11 & 12.
5 CLEANING
Correct maintenance of your PPE will ensure a longer useful life for the product
and guarantee your safety.
You must strictly follow these recommendations:
• Clean with water and soft soap. Under no circumstances should you use acidic
or basic solvents.
• Allow the device to dry naturally in a ventilated area away from any direct flame
or other heat source.
6 CHECK BEFORE USE
When first used:
• Enter the marking information on the identification sheet.
Appendices 4 and 5.
It is your responsibility to keep this sheet up to date and in a safe place. If there are
no entries on the identification sheet, the product will be considered not to have
been maintained and no warranty will be provided by the manufacturer.
BEFORE EACH USE:
Before each use, a careful visual check of the PPE is required to ensure that it is
undamaged. A similar check of any other equipment to which it may be attached
(harness-belt, anchor points, connectors etc.) should also be carried out (See
Fig. 3) and arrangements for safe rescue should also be made.
Should your product be damaged, consult the manufacturer or their
representative. If you have any doubt about the condition of a product or if the
product has been used to stop a fall (Fall indicator light illuminated, (See Fig. 6 ) it
is essential for your safety that the PPE be withdrawn from use and returned to the
manufacturer or to an accredited repair centre for verification or destruction.
Before such a PPE is used again, it is your responsibility to obtain written
authorisation from your repairer to resume the use of the product. Otherwise, we
cannot be held responsible in the event of a product malfunction.
It is strictly forbidden for you to modify a PPE or repair one yourself (See Fig.
13).
Before any use, check:
• That the scheduled date for the next periodic inspection has not passed

• That the cable feeds out to and retracts from its full extent normally.
• That the locking feature works by pulling sharply on the cable, which should
lock instantly - (See Fig. 15)
• That all of the device is in a perfect condition and that all bolts are present and
correctly tightened.
• That the end of the cable is correctly sheathed and that the loop is in good
condition.
• That the caribiners supplied with the device are working and lock correctly.
• That there is no trace of corrosion on the metal components.
