Informationen zum Vorbild
Zur Ablösung der seit fast vier Jahrzehnten stark beanspruchten
Diesellokomotiven der Baureihe 218 begann die Deutsche Bahn
schon vor einigen Jahren, nach geeignetem Ersatz zu suchen.
Die neuen Loks sollten in der Lage sein, mittelschwere Regio-
nalpersonen- und Güterzüge problemlos zu befördern. Fündig
wurde die DB schließlich bei Bombardier, welche die aus der
Traxx-Familie stammende, einmotorige Diesellokbaureihe 246
im Angebot führte. Diese dieselelektrische Maschine hat sich
schon seit einigen Jahren vor den Metronom-Doppelstockzügen
zwischen Hamburg und Cuxhaven ausgezeichnet bewährt.
Neue Abgasnormen machten jedoch eine Weiterproduktion
der Baureihe 246 schwierig. Daher schlug Bombardier einen
anderen Weg ein: Statt eines großen, für die Abgasnormen noch
zu modifizierenden Dieselmotors, erhielten die knapp 19 Meter
langen und 83 Tonnen schweren Loks vier einzelne, kleinere
Dieselmotoren, welche die neuen EU-Abgasnormen Stage III B
erfüllen.
Von dieser Variante überzeugt, schloss nun die DB mit Bombar-
dier einen Rahmenvertrag über die Lieferung von insgesamt 200
Loks der neuen Baureihe 245. Nach erfolgreichen Probefahrten
mit dem Prototypen 245 001 bestellte die DB-Regio sogleich 20
Maschinen für die Regionalbereiche Frankfurt/Main, Mühldorf
und Kempten. Die 160 km/h schnellen Loks werden von vier
Sechszylinder-Dieselmotoren des Typs Caterpillar CAT C18 mit
einer Gesamtleistung von 2.252 kW (3.062 PS) angetrieben und
bestechen durch ihre Beschleunigung. Sieben weitere 245er
bestellte die DB Fernverkehrssparte am 10. Juni 2014 zur Ablö-
sung der Baureihe 218 bei den Sylt-Shuttles, wobei jeweils eine
einzelne 245 eine 218-Doppeltraktion ersetzen wird.
Information about the Prototype
The German Railroad began several years ago to search for a
suitable replacement for the class 218 diesel locomotives that
had been greatly burdened for almost four decades. The new lo-
comotives had to be in a position to haul medium heavy regional
passenger and freight trains without problem. The DB was finally
successful with Bombardier, which was offering the class 246
single-motor diesel locomotive class developed from the Traxx
family. This diesel electric unit had turned in excellent results for
several years pulling Metronom bi-level trains between Hamburg
and Cuxhaven. New exhaust regulations made it difficult to build
any more of the class 246. Bombardier therefore hit upon another
path. Instead of a large diesel motor, that still had to be modified
for the exhaust regulations, the just 19 meter / 62 feet 4 inches
long and 83 ton locomotives were equipped with four individual,
smaller diesel motors that met the new EU exhaust regulations
Stage III B.
Convinced of the virtues of this variant, the DB now concluded a
framework agreement with Bombardier for delivery of 200 of the
new class 245 locomotives. After successful test runs with the
prototype road number 245 001, the DB-Regio immediately orde-
red 20 units for the regional areas of Frankfurt/Main, Mühldorf,
and Kempten. These locomotives can do 160 km/h / 100 mph and
they are powered by four six-cylinder Caterpillar CAT C18 diesel
motors with a total output of 2,252 kilowatts / 3,062 horsepower.
They impress people with their acceleration. The DB long-
distance passenger service group ordered seven additional 245
units on June 10, 2014 to replace the class 218 the Sylt shuttles,
whereby a single 245 will replace two 218 units.

Informations concernant la locomotive réelle
Pour remplacer les locomotives diesel de la série 218 qui, depuis
près de quarante ans, sont extrêmement sollicitées, la Deutsche
Bahn s’est déjà mise il y a quelques années en quête d’une relève.
Les nouvelles locomotives devaient être capables de remorquer
sans problème des trains voyageurs régionaux et des trains mar-
chandises de poids moyens. C’est finalement chez Bombardier
que la DB trouva son bonheur, ce fabricant proposant la série de
locomotives diesel 246 à moteur unique issue de la famille Traxx.
Cette machine dieselélectrique a fait ses preuves déjà depuis
quelques années en remorquant les trains Metronom à deux
niveaux entre Hambourg et Cuxhaven. De nouvelles normes anti-
pollution mirent toutefois un frein à la production de la série 246.
Bombardier emprunta alors une autre voie. A la place d’un grand
moteur diesel, qui pour les normes anti-pollution aurait été encore
à modifier, les locomotives de près de 19 mètres et 83 tonnes
furent dotées de quatre moteurs diesel individuels plus petits qui
satisfont aux nouvelles normes anti-pollution Stage III B de l’UE.
Convaincue par cette variante, la DB signa alors un contrat- cadre
avec Bombardier pour la livraison de 200 locomotives au total de
la nouvelle série 245. Après des marches d’essai probantes avec
le prototype 245 001, la DB Regio commanda aussitôt 20 machines
pour les régions Francfort/Main, Mühldorf et Kempten. Les loco-
motives pouvant atteindre une vitesse de 160 km/h sont entraînées
par quatre moteurs diesel à six cylindres type Caterpillar CAT C18
d’une puissance totale de 2.252 kW (3.062 ch) et leur capacité
d’accélération est on ne peut plus convaincante. Le 10 juin 2014, le
secteur trafic à grande distance de la DB commanda sept autres
245 pour remplacer la série 218 pour les « Sylt-Shuttles » (navettes
sur l’île de Sylt) une seule 245 devant remplacer une double
traction de 218.

Voor de aflossing van de reeds gedurende bijna vier decennia
zwaarbelaste diesellocomotieven van de serie 218 begon de
Deutsche Bahn reeds een paar jaar geleden naar een geschikte
vervanging te zoeken. De nieuwe locs moesten in staat zijn om
middelzware regionale reizigers- en goederentreinen probleem-
loos te vervoeren. De DB kwam ten slotte bij Bombardier terecht
dat de uit de Traxx-reeks afkomstige eenmotorige diesellocs
uit de serie 246 aanbood. Deze dieselelektrische machine had
reeds meerdere jaren uitstekende diensten verricht voor de
dubbeldeks Metronom-treinen tussen Hamburg en Cuxhaven.
Nieuwe uitlaatgasnormen bemoeilijkten echter een verdere
productie van de serie 246. Daarom sloeg Bombardier een an-
dere weg in: in plaats van een grote dieselmotor die nog moest
worden aangepast op de uitlaatgasnormen, kregen de bijna
19 meter lange en 83 ton zware locs vier individuele, kleinere
dieselmotoren die voldoen aan de nieuwe EG-uitlaatgasnorm
Stage III B.
Overtuigd door deze variant sloot de DB met Bombardier een
kaderverdrag over de levering van in totaal 200 locs van de
nieuwe serie 245. Na geslaagde testritten met het prototype 245
001 bestelde de DB Regio gelijk 20 machines voor de regionale
trajecten Frankfurt/Main, Mühldorf en Kempten. De 160 km/u
snelle locs worden door vier zescilinder-dieselmotoren van het
type Caterpillar CAT C18 met een totaal vermogen van 2.252 kW
(3.062 PK) aangedreven en ze vallen op door hun optrekken. De
DB Fernverkehrssparte bestelde op 10 juni 2014 nog eens zeven
245's ter aflossing van de serie 218 bij de Sylt-Shuttles, waarbij
telkens een enkele 245 een dubbeltractie-218 vervangt.
