Installing a 5304 IP Phone (See Figure )
Before installing your phone, ensure that you are familiar with the following
powering options:
• An IEEE 802.3af compliant PoE LAN provides power to the phone via a
CAT5ecable.(ThephonereceivesEthernetsignalsandpowerthroughthe
same cable.) To install, see Steps and .
OR
• A mid-span Ethernet power adapter provides power to the phone via a
CAT5ecable.(ThephonereceivesEthernetsignalsandpowerthroughthe
same cable.) The Ethernet power adapter is connected to the LAN via a
separate CAT5e cable connected to a LAN jack. To install, see Steps 
and .
NOTE:
Intheabsenceof aPOELAN, the 5304usesa 48Vmid-span Ethernet
power adapter. USE ONLY MITEL APPROVED UNIVERSAL POWER
ADAPTER (P/N 51015131).
Turn the phone so that the front facesaway from you.
Plug the handset cord into the handset connector jack.
(Optional) Connect a PC NIC to the PC port on either the side (if the
Dataport Access Dongle is installed) or bottom of the phone, through a
CAT5e cable.
Plug one end of the CAT5e cable into the LAN port on the bottom of the
phone.
Plug the other end of the CAT5e cable into one of the following:
• the phone port of an Ethernetpower adapter. Then, connect the
Ethernet adapter to the LANusing a separate CAT5e cable, and plug
the power adapter into an AC power outlet.
OR
• a PoE-powered 10/100BASE-T LAN jack.
To register the phone in SIP mode, proceed to Configuring a 5304 IP
Phone to SIP Mode.
To register the phone in MiNET mode, perform the following steps:
If prompted, enter a valid PIN,and then press the hook switch to register
the phone.
After the date and time display, insert the Label Card (see page 3).

Configuring a 5304 IP Phone to SIP Mode
IMPORTANT: If you are upgradingfrom a previous load, pleaseensure youare
following the correct upgrade procedure as outlined in the latest product
Release Notes available from the SIP Software Download Page (see “To
access the latest firmware loads and additional SIP documentation:” on
page 2).
To configure the phone to SIP mode using the default settings:
1. Press and hold * and 7simultaneously while powering up the phone. The
display indicates “Mode Change to SIP”.
2. When the display indicates “Change Confirmed”, wait for the phone to
boot.
NOTE:
If prompted to ENTER USERID, enter the extension number for the
phone. If the Installer code is configured, you mustenter the Installer Code +
extension number (e.g. 123 + 2001).
3. Slide the designation card under the plasticlensonthefrontofthephone.
4. (Optional) Connect a network device to the PC port on the back of the
phone.
NOTE:
The SIP default configuration uses the default network settings in
DHCP mode.
NOTE: To return the phone to MiNET mode using the default settings, press
and hold * and 6 simultaneously while powering up the phone. After the phone
boots, it is returned to MiNET mode.
SIP Network Configuration
Ifnecessary,youcanchangethedefaultSIPnetworksettings.Whenchanging
or configuring 5304 IP Phone settings, use the *, 0, and # keys to answer the
displayprompts.Forexample,press*toselectYES or # toselectNOor0to
select Default.
To configure network settings:
1. PressbothUpandDownArrowkeyssimultaneouslywhilepoweringupthe
phone. NETWORK SETTINGS? appears.
2. Usethe*and#keystonavigatethroughtheNETWORK SETTINGS and/
or NETWORK PARAMETERS menus and configure settings.
3. When you are finished entering parameters, press ACCEPT. STORE
CHANGES? appears.
4. Press YES. SAVING TO NVRAM. Do Not Remove Power appears, fol-
lowed by NVRAM SAVE COMPLETE and REBOOT NOW?.
5. Press YES. When the date and time appear, the reboot is complete and
your settings are updated.
NOTE:
For xDSL, an Internet Service Provider user name and password are
required.
NOTE: For additional SIP information, refer to the 5304 SIP User and
Administrator Guide available at www.mitel.com (see Supporting
Documentation
).
To Restore Factory Default Settings:
1. PressbothUpandDownArrowkeyssimultaneouslywhilepoweringupthe
phone. NETWORK SETTINGS? appears
2. Press NO until TOOLS & FEATURES appears and then press YES.
3. Press NO until RESTORE DEFAULTS? appears and then press YES.
4. Press CONFIRM. The phone resets with default settings.
Wall Mounting on a Wall Plate (See Figure )
Please note that the wall mount bracket is optional and not included with the
phone. It must bepurchased separately.
Connect and thread the 220mm CAT5e cable provided as part ofthe
optionalwallmountkitandPCCAT5ecableinthechannelprovidedas
in Figure .
Install the wall mount bracket as described above.
Connect the 220mm CAT5e cable into the wall jack as in .
Mount the phone and wall mount unit onto the wall plate studs as
indicatedbythedottedlineshowninFigure .TheCAT5ecablecan
bepulledupslightlyatthetopofthephoneasitisinstalledtopreventitfrom
interfering with the mechanical parts of the phone.
Wall Mounting on the Wall
Please note that the wall mount bracket is optional and not included with the
Phone; it must be purchased separately.
Select a location away from electrical cables, pipes or other items that could
cause a hazard when inserting screws in the wall.
CAUTION:Ensurethewalliscapableofsupportingtheweightofthephone.For
additionalsecurity,itisrecommendedthatyoumountthephoneonaplywood
backboard. Mitel is not responsible for phones damaged as a result of
improper wall mounting.
1. Inserttwo mountingscrews31/4inches(8.25 cm)apart.Allowabout 3/16
of an inch (0.5 cm) between the wall and screw heads for mounting the
phone.Use#10screws1to 1.5inches(2.5to4cm)inlengthformounting
screws and anchoring devices suitable for the wall.
2. See Figure .
Connect and thread the CAT5e cable and optional CAT5e cable in
thechannelprovidedinthebaseofthephone.Pleasenotethatbothcables
and will run in parallel when the unit is mounted on the wall.
NOTE:
When the optional Dataport Access Dongle is used in place of the
optional CAT5e cable
 , only cable will be threaded in the channel in the
base of the phone.
3. Install the wall mount bracket into the three mounting holes indicated
by the dotted lines in Figure , slide the bracket upwards until it snaps
into place.
4. Mount the phone and wall mount bracket onto the wall screws similar
to what is illustrated by the dotted line shown in Figure .
Installing Optional Accessories (See Figure )
Please note that the following accessories are optional and not included with
the Phone; they must be purchased separately:
• Dataport Access Dongle
• Hospitality Kit
Dataport Access Dongle
To install the dataport access dongle:
1. Plug one end () into the PC Port on the bottom of the Phone.
2. Snap the other () end into place in the data port opening on the side of
the phone.
Hospitality Kit
To install the hospitality accessory kit:
1. Turn the phone so that the front faces away from you.
2. Line up the plastic pins on the hospitality accessory kit () with the slots
on the back of the display.
3. Insert and slide the bottom pins down into the lower slots. Press and snap
the upper pins in place intothe upper slots.

To label the phones programmable buttons, remove the plastic covering by
pressinginthedirectionindicated.Labelthebuttonsasneededandreplacethe
cover.
