1 Safety Regulations
1.1 Correct Use
The SingleLineSCOUT, in this manual also referred to as device, is a personal monitoring unit that monitors
the proper functioning of a respiratory protective device. It displays the current operating data of the
respiratory protective device and signals the danger conditions (visually and acoustically).
It is imperative that this operating manual be read and observed when using the device. In particular, the
safety instructions, as well as the information for the use and operation of the device, must be carefully read
and observed. Furthermore, the national regulations applicable in the user's country must be taken into
account for a safe use.
WARNING!
This product is supporting life and health. Inappropriate use, maintenance or servicing may affect the
function of the device and thereby seriously compromise the user's life.
Before use, the product operability must be verified. The product must not be used if the function test is
unsuccessful, it is damaged, a competent servicing/maintenance has not been made, genuine MSA spare
parts have not been used.
Failure to follow these warnings can result in serious personal injury or death.
Alternative use, or use outside this specification will be considered as non-compliance. This also applies
especially to unauthorised alterations to the product and to commissioning work that has not been carried
out by MSA or authorised persons.
1.2 Liability Information
MSA accepts no liability in cases where the device has been used inappropriately or not as intended. The
selection and use of the device are the exclusive responsibility of the individual operator.
Product liability claims, warranties and guarantees made by MSA with respect to the device are voided, if it is
not used, serviced or maintained in accordance with the instructions in this manual.
1.3 Lung Governed Demand Valve
The use of lung governed demand valves carrying short medium pressure lines (50cm +/- 5cm) is
mandatory to reduce snagging risk.

The SingleLineSCOUT (see Figure 1 ) is connected at the end of the SingleLine of an applicable MSA
SCBA. It consists of the pressure gauge(2), the coupling for the lung governed demand valve(8) as well as
an acoustic warning device(7) (signal whistle). It triggers a continuous warning signal when the cylinder
pressure drops below 55±5bar. The second connection(1) connects a second lung governed demand
valve (e.g. rescue kit or RespiHood).

The device monitors the proper functioning of the respiratory protective device. It displays the current
operating data of the respiratory protective device and signals the danger conditions (visually and
acoustically). In addition, the device automatically triggers an alarm if the apparatus user is not moving and
provides the opportunity for manual alarm triggering.
In the event of pressure alarm, motionless alarm or a manual alarm activation via button, bright red LEDs -
buddy lights(4) - mounted on both sides of the device flash and are visible from the outside.
The device is equipped with an internal data memory for saving the operational data for more than 30
sessions with up to 20 min working time.

3 Installation
Disassembling SingleLine Gauge
For disassembling the SingleLine gauge, a Torx spanner and a small screw driver are required.
(1) Unscrew the back cover of the SingleLine gauge with
a Torx T10 spanner.
(2) Lift the back cover.
(3) Remove the U-clip with a small screw driver.
(4) Pull the SingleLine manifold out.

CAUTION!
The screws are not reusable and MUST be replaced with new ones after each disassembly.
Failure to follow this caution can result in minor or moderate injury.
Assembling SingleLine SCOUT
For assembling the device, a Torx spanner and a small screw driver are required.
(1) Unscrew the battery cover of the device with a Torx T10
spanner.
(2) Remove the battery cover.
(3) Remove the U-clip with a small screw driver.
(4) Push the SingleLine into the attachment point.
(5) Secure the SingleLine with the U-clip.
(6) Insert the batteries. Follow insert direction printed in
battery compartment. Only use certified batteries (see
chapter7).
(7) Close the battery compartment with a Torx T10 spanner
(0.7 Nm).
(8) Perform a tightness check (see chapter4).

4 Use
4.1 Switching on
(1) Open compressed air cylinder.
(2) If pressure>15bar, SingleLineSCOUT starts up.
a) Electronic component check:
All LEDs are flashing once, an acoustic signal sounds and the gauge LEDs light up green. The
device is ready for use.
If only red LEDs light up and no acoustic signal sounds, do not use the device. There is an
electronical damage.
b) Optional: High pressure tightness test:
– Press manual alarm button within first 30 seconds after self test was confirmed.
Allow 8 to 12 seconds for stabilisation before closing the cylinder valve.
– Close cylinder valve and double click on the alarm button.
The self test starts measuring the pressure drop within 60 seconds; red and yellow LEDs flash
while the test is running.
If the pressure drop is < 10 bar within 60 seconds, the device tightness is confirmed by an
acoustic sound and green gauge LEDs flashing.
– Release air slowly using the lung governed demand valve until warning whistle sounds up.
– Close the lung governed demand valve and reopen cylinder valve to use the SCBA.
NOTE: Pressure drop must not be > 10 bar / 60 seconds. If the pressure drop is >10bar within 60
seconds, the test is stopped with an acoustic sound and red LEDs flashing. The device is not tight. Do
NOT use the device.
(3) If pressure<15bar, SingleLineSCOUT does not start up.
If only red LEDs light up and no acoustic signal sounds, the pressure level or battery capacity
might be to low.
4.2 Switching off
Switching off the SingleLineSCOUT is only possible in the pressure-free status. The device is considered to
be pressure-free if the measured pressure is less than 15 bar.
(1) Close the valve(s) of the compressed air cylinder(s) and vent the compressed air breathing apparatus
via the lung governed demand valve (see operating manual for compressed air breathing apparatus).
An acoustic signal sounds between 60 and 0 bar.
(2) Push the alarm button twice.
The pressure alarm switches off.
(3) Push the alarm button twice.
An acoustic signal sounds.
The device switches off.
4.3 Pressure Status Message
While operating, the device makes an acoustic sound at the following pressure thresholds:
• 1st pressure threshold – Single beep

• 2nd pressure threshold – Double beep
• 60 bar – Signal whistle – double beep repeated until confirmed with double press below 15bar
These thresholds can be changed using the MSA A2 Software in combination with 10181672 as PC
interface.

4.4 Battery Life Indication
The battery life of the device is indicated as follows:
• Batteries are OK – The device starts in SCOUT Mode. The green battery life indication blinks for 100ms
every 45seconds.
• Batteries are empty
– In Standby: The red battery life indication LED blinks for 100ms every 30seconds.
– During start-up: The device does not start properly. All red LEDs incl. battery life indicator
lighten up and an acoustic signal sounds.
If the battery power level cannot be measured anymore, the device will not start.
In all cases, the batteries must be exchanged.
Update date and time settings after battery exchange using MSA A2 Software.
4.5 Initiating Manual Alarm Calls during Use
(1) Push the manual alarm button until the alarm sounds and buddy lights are turned on.
4.6 Canceling Alarms
(1) Push the alarm button twice.
The alarm turns off.
4.7 Using a Safety Key
The SingleLine SCOUT can be used with a safety key (10186697).
Motion Detection
The device automatically detects if a key is placed in its holder. If a key is detected during start up, the motion
detection is deactivated and can be activated by removing the key.
All warnings and alarms related to the motion detector are deactivated.
Muted Alarms during Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) Missions
The key can be used during RIT missions to mute device alarms while they are active by pushing the key in
the holder of the device in alarm state.
Pressure warnings and pressure alarm sounds will still occur.
4.8 Illuminating the Gauge
(1) Lift up the gauge from the chest over an angle of 90°.
The gauge lightning turns on.
