What is the PARI MONTESOL nasal douche and what is it used for?
ThePARIMONTESOLnasaldoucheisasimplemedicaldevicethatisusedasan
aidforflushingthemainnasalcavity.Thenasaldouchemoistensthemucous
membraneinthenoseandcleansesthenasalcavity.
Thenasalcavityisflushedasameasureagainst:
-frequentlyoccurringcolds
-susceptibilitytocoldinfections
-drynoseandnasalcalculus
-verydustyandcontaminatedatmospheres
-pollenallergies
-chronicinflammationofthenoseandnasalcavities
-andaftersurgeryclosetothenoseandparanasalsinuses
What must I do before I use the PARI MONTESOL nasal douche for the
first time?
Readtheseinstructionsforusebeforeusingforthefirsttime.
Keeptheseinstructionsforuseinasafeplace.

What do I fill the PARI MONTESOL nasal douche with?
Concentrationsthataretoohighortoolowmaycauseunpleasantirritation.
ThefillvolumeinthePARIMONTESOLnasaldoucheis250 ml.
Fornasalrinsing,youcanusesuitablebrineorsalinesolutionsthatareavailable
inliquidorcrystallineformfromyourchemistorspecialistmedicaldealer.Your
chemistorspecialistdealerwillbegladtotellyouthequantityyouneedtouse
toprepare250mlofanisotonicsolution.
ThisquantityisaddedtothedoucheandwarmwaterisaddeduntilthePARI
MONTESOLnasaldoucheiscompletelyfilled.
Thewateryouneedtopreparethesalinesolutionsmustbeatleastdrinkingwa-
terqualityandshouldalwaysbefresh.Itmaybenecessarytouseboiledorsterile
watertotreatparticularillnessessuchascysticfibrosisoraftersurgery.
Nasalrinsesshouldalwaysbecarriedoutwithisotonic(i.e.thecon-
centrationofthemineralcontentshouldmatchitsconcentrationin
thebloodstream)salinesolutions.
Itisveryimportanttofollowthisinstruction.
Pleasealsofollowtheinstructionsforuseforthebrineandsalineso-
lutionsyouusefornasalrinsing.

•Placethenasalinsert(1)onthebend(2)(alreadypre-fittedatshipment).
Ensurethatthesmallpin(a)onthebendhasengagedintheslot(b)inthe
nasalinsert.
•TurnthenasalinserttotheSTOPposition(flowwillbeblocked):
TheSTOPlabelonthenasalinsertmustbealignedwiththemarkingonthe
bend(line).

•Setthenasaldouchedownwiththevalve(4)atthebottom.
•Unscrewthebend(2)fromthenasaldouche.

• Fillthenasaldouchewiththecorrectdoseofbrineorsalinesolutioninac-
cordancewiththeinstructionsforuse.
• Fillthenasaldoucheuptotheloweredgeofthescrewthread(seearrow)
withdrinkingwateratbodytemperature.

•Thenscrewthebend(2)firmlybackontothereservoir(3).Ensurethatthena-
salinsert(1)isintheSTOPposition(seeImage2).
•Turnthenasaldoucheover.
•Rockthenasaldouchegentlybackandforthtomixthebrineorsalinesolu-
tionthoroughlywiththedrinkingwater.

Note:
Youcanrinseviaeithernostril.Torinsetheleftnostril,holdthenasaldouchein
yourlefthand.Torinsetherightnostril,holdthenasaldoucheinyourrighthand.
Inthefollowing,nasalrinsingviatherightnostrilwillbedescribed.

•Holdthefillednasaldoucheinyourrighthand;placeyourrightindexfinger
onthevalve(4).
•Withyourlefthand,turnthenasalinsert(1)totherinseposition(flowsym-
bol).

•Bendyourheadslightlyforwardsoverthewashbasinandopenyourmouth
wide.
•Breathegentlyinandoutthroughyourmouth.
•PlacethenasalinsertforthePARIMONTESOLnasaldoucheoveryourright
nostril,sothatthenostriliscompletelysealed.
•Nowturnyourheadslightlytotheleft.
•Pressthevalve(4)withyourindexfinger,whichisrestingonthedouche.
Rinsingwillbegin.Thenasalrinsesolutionflowsinthroughthenostril,
throughthenasalcavity,andbackoutthroughyourothernostril.
•Youcanstoprinsingatanytimebytakingyourindexfingeroffthevalve.
Attheendofrinsing,asmallquantityofthesolutionwillbeleftinthenasal
douche.

What to do if the rinse solution runs into the throat?
Smallquantitiesofnasalrinsesolutioncanalwaysflowintothethroat.Ifyoutilt
theheadslightlyforwardsandtoonesidewhilerinsing,thissmallquantitywill
flowquitenaturallyoutofyourmouth.
Iflargerquantitiespassintothethroat,eitheryoursoftpalateisnotclosedor
thenasalpassageontheothersideissocongestedthattherinsesolutioncan-
notflowback.Ifthefirstistrue,remembertoopenyourmouthwide,andifnec-
essaryshiftthepositionofyourheadslightlyoverthewashbasin.Iftheproblem
iscongestion,stoprinsingandbeginagainthroughtheothernostril.
What to do if the rinse solution continues to run out of the nose after
rinsing is finished?
Thishappenswithsomeuserswhosenoseshavemanyrecesses.Theseusers
shouldshaketheirheadinalldirectionsoverthewashbasinaftereachrinsing
session,sothatalloftherinsesolutionrunsoutofthenose.
4.1 Cleaning
ThePARIMONTESOLnasaldoucheshouldthereforebecleaned,disinfectedand
driedaftereachuse.
Recommended method
• Dismantlethenasaldoucheintoitsindividualparts(refertoImage1).
•Aftereveryuse,flushtheindividualpartsofthePARIMONTESOLnasal
douchethoroughlywithwarmdrinkingwater,thendisinfectanddrythem
(seenextchapter).
Donotattempttokeepunusedresidueoftherinsesolution.Discard
allunusedsolution.Otherwisebacterialcontaminationmayoccur!
Inadequatecleaningordryingmayallowgermstobreedwhichcould
causeoraggravateillnesses.

•Distributethepartsinthecutlerybasket.
•Selectaprogramofatleast50°C.
4.2 Disinfection
Recommended method
YoucandisinfectthePARIMONTESOLnasaldouchewiththeNUKVaporisator
6(partno. 500G2000 )ortheDesinfektorDI6.00(partno.041G6000)byPetra.
Pleasefollowtheinstructionsforusewitheachofthesesteamdisinfectors.
Possible alternative
ThePARIMONTESOLnasaldouchecanbesterilisedbyboiling.
Placetheindividualpartsofyournasaldoucheinboilingwaterfor15minutes.
Donotleavethepartsunsupervised.Ensurethepartsarenottouchingthesides
ofthepan,andthatthereissufficientwaterinthepantocoverthem.Afterboil-
ing,allowthepartstocooldownanddryoff.
4.3 Drying

•Afterdisinfecting,shakethewateroutofallparts.
•Attachthevalve(4)tothereservoir (3).

•Placethenasalinsert(1)intotheopeninginthebend.
•Hangthenasaldoucheuptodrybytheringonvalve.
DonotwashthePARIMONTESOLnasaldouchetogetherwithdirty
crockery.
