Die Ganzmetall-Regelventile UDV040 und
UDV 140 dienen dem kontrollierten Ein-
lass von Gasen in Vakuumsysteme. Sie
zeichnen sich durch präzisen und reprodu-
zierbaren Gaseinlass aus und eignen sich
besonders für den Einsatz
• in der Gas- und Oberflächenanalytik
• in der Massenspektrometrie
• in der Kernphysik, Beschleuniger
• in der Katodenzerstäubung
(sputtering)
• in der Vakuum- und Lasertechnik
• bei der Handhabung reinster Gase
• beim Belüften von UHV-Systemen
Das UDV 040 ist für den manuellen, das
UDV 140 (in Verbindung mit einer Steue-
rung) für den geregelten Gaseinlass kon-
zipiert.
The UDV 040 and UDV140 all-metal
regulating valves are used for controlled
gas inlet into vacuum systems. They dis-
tinguish themselves through precise and
reproducible gas inlet and are especially
suited for use in
• gas and surface analysis
• mass spectrometry
• nuclear physics, accelerators
• cathode sputtering
• vacuum and laser technology
• handling of very pure gases
• venting of UHV systems
The UDV 040 is conceived for manual, the
UDV 140 (in conjunction with a control
unit) for regulated gas inlet.

UDV 040 et UDV 140 ont été conçues
pour l'admission contrôlée de gaz dans les
systèmes à ultra-vide. Elles se distinguent
par leur dosage précis et reproductible et
conviennent en particulier aux utilisations

1 Sicherheit
1.1 Grundlegende Sicher-

1 Safety

3.2 Betrieb mit kleinen
Gasflüssen
040 140
Bei Gasflüssen ≤10-9 mbar l/s besteht die
Gefahr, dass die Durchlassöffnung durch
kondensierbare Dämpfe belegt wird. Um
absorbierte Dämpfe zu entfernen, heizen
Sie das Ventil in geöffneter Stellung wäh-
rend ½ Stunde bei ca. 200 ºC aus. Sie
können die Absorbtion verhindern, indem
Sie das Ventil während des Betriebs z.B.
mit einer Heizjacke (→
2 55) temperieren.
Bei Gasflüssen < 3 × 10-10 mbar l/s muss,
zusätzlich zum Temperieren, das einzu-
lassende Gas frei von kondensierbaren
Dämpfen sein. Dazu kann es nötigenfalls
über eine Trockenvorrichtung (z.B. Stick-
stoffalle) geleitet werden.
Beim Verwenden eines Molekularsiebes,
müssen Sie ein zusätzliches Filter ein-
bauen, um das Ventil vor eindringende
Siebteilchen zu schützen.
3.2 Operation with low gas
flows

When operating the valve at gas flows of
≤ 10
-9
mbar l/s, the orifice can be conta-
minated by condensable vapors. Adsorbed
vapors can be removed by baking out the
valve in open position (approx. 200 ºC for
30 minutes). Such adsorption can be
prevented by heating the valve during
operation, for example with a heating
jacket (
→
2
55).
At gas flows of < 3 × 10
-10
mbar l/s, in ad-
dition to heating, the inlet gas must be free
of condensable vapors. If necessary, the
inlet gas can be directed through a drying
device (e.g. liquid nitrogen cold trap).
If a molecular sieve is used, an additional
filter must be installed to prevent sieve
particles from entering the valve.
3.2 Fonctionnement à petits

teur à azote).
Si l'on utilise un tamis moléculaire, on doit
installer un filtre supplémentaire afin de
protéger la vanne contre l'entrée de parti-
cules de tamisage.

Rapid changes in the environment such as
draughts of air and exposure to sun shine
can influence the gas flow too strongly for
certain experiments. To avoid this, operate
the valve at a controlled temperature using
for example a heating jacket (

55).

3.3 Compensation des varia-

3.4 Ausheizen

Beim Ausheizen des Ventils an Atmo-
sphäre treten bei Temperaturen über etwa
300 ºC Oxydationserscheinungen (störend
auf den Dichtflächen) auf. Dies lässt sich
z.B. durch eine Schutzgasbeaufschlagung
oder ein Hilfsvakuum vermeiden.
HINWEIS:
Beachten Sie auch die Angaben
bezüglich des Schmierens

3.4 Bakeout

Oxidation occurs (interfering on sealing
surfaces) when the valve is baked out at
atmospheric pressure at temperatures
above 300 ºC. This can be avoided, for
example, by using a protective gas atmo-
sphere or an auxiliary vacuum.
NOTE:

3.4 Etuvage

Des oxydations surviennent (dérangeant
sur les éléments d'étanchéité) lors d'étu-
vage avec l'air atmosphèrique à des tem-
pératures de plus de 300 ºC. On évite ce
risque en appliquant un gaz de protection
ou un vide auxiliaire.

3.5 Thermomechanische
Regelung

Das UDV 140 verfügt über eine thermo-
mechanische Regeleinrichtung. Der
Ventil-bolzen ist mit einer bifilaren
Heizwicklung versehen. Er erwärmt sich
entsprechend der angelegten
Heizspannung. Die resultierende
Längenänderung addiert sich zur
Grundeinstellung des Ventils und verrin-
gert dessen Leitwert.
In Verbindung mit einem Steuergerät (z.B.
RVG 050B) kann so der gewünschte Gas-
fluss eingestellt und stabilisiert werden.
ACHTUNG:
Wird bei Gasflüssen
< 10-8 mbar l/s oder bei
geschlossenem Ventil eine
Heizspannung angelegt, kann der
Ventilteller (Saphir) beschädigt
werden.
3.5 Thermomechanical
regulation

The UDV 140 has a thermomechanical
controller. The valve stem is equipped with
a bifilar heating coil and is heated corre-
spondingly to the heater voltage applied.
The resulting deformation in extension is
added to the set basic adjustment of the
valve and thus reduces it conductance
value accordingly.
The desired gas flow can be set and stabi-
lised when this valve is operated in con-
junction with a control unit (e.g.
RVG 050B).
CAUTION:
If heater voltage is applied at gas
flows < 10
-8
mbar l/s or when the
valve is closed, the valve plate
(sapphire) can be damaged.
3.5 Régulation thermo-
mécanique
140
L’UDV 140 est muni d'un dispositif de ré-
glage thermomécanique. La tige-poussoir
de la vanne est équipée d'un enroulement
bifilaire et peut être chauffée correspon-
dant à la puissance de chauffage. Ce fai-
sant, l'allongement de la tige s'ajoute au
réglage mécanique de base de la vanne et
réduit sa conductance en conséquence.
Cette vanne combinée avec l'appareil de
régulation (p.ex. RVG 050B) permet de
régler et stabiliser la pression de gaz dé-
sirée.
ATTENTION:
Si la puissance de chauffage agit
lorsque la vanne est fermée ou
qu'elle n'admet que de faibles flux
de gaz (< 10-8 mbar l/s), il y a dan-
ger de détérioration du plateau de
vanne (saphir).
