Safety
Intended Use
The posioner is a laboratory device as dened
by DIN EN 61010-1. It is intended for indoor use
and use in an environment that is free of dirt,
oil, and lubricants.
In accordance with its design, the posioner is
intended for precision posioning and align-
ment of a mirror in two orthogonal axes with
a common center of rotaon (parallel kinema-
cs). Some models provide addional vercal
moon. The posioner is not intended for
applicaons in areas, in which a failure would
present severe risks to human beings or the
environment.
The intended use of the posioner is only pos-
sible when completely installed and connected,
and in conjuncon with suitable electronics.
The posioner may only be installed, operated,
maintained, and cleaned by authorized and
appropriately qualied personnel.
General Safety Instrucons
The posioner is built according to state-of-
the-art technology and recognized safety
standards. Improper use of the posioner may
result in personal injury and/or damage to the
posioner. The operator is responsible for cor-
rect installaon and operaon of the posioner.
XOnly use the posioner for its intended
purpose, and only use it if it is in perfect
condion.
XRead the user manual.
XImmediately eliminate any faults and mal-
funcons that are likely to aect safety.
XDo not open the posioner.
The posioner is maintenance-free and achie-
ves its posioning accuracy as a result of the
opmum alignment of mechanical components
and piezo actuators. Loosened screws cause a
loss in posioning accuracy.
XOnly loosen screws according to the in-
strucons in the manual.
XDo not open the posioner.
Installaon
Temperature changes and compressive stress
can induce charges in the posioner. Aer
disconnecon from the electronics, the piezo
actuators can remain charged for several hours.
Touching charged parts can result in minor
injuries from electric shock.
XDo not touch the contacts in the connector.
XBefore mounng, connect the posioner
to the switched-o electronics for a few
seconds to discharge it.
XIf possible: Secure the connectors with
screws against being pulled out.
XDo not pull connectors out of the electro-
nics during operaon.
XIf the connecng cable is accidentally pul-
led out of the posioner during operaon:
Switch o the electronics before you recon-
nect the posioner.
Mechanical forces can damage or misalign the
posioner.
XAvoid shocks and drops.
XObserve the maximum permissible forces
and torques (see manual).
XIf a mirror holder is to be used: Clamp the
mirror holder above the exure only.
XDo not allow adhesive to get into the
posioner.
XOnly ship the posioner in the original
packaging.
If the posioner is vacuum-compable, aen-
on must be paid to cleanliness.
XOnly touch the posioner with powder-free
gloves.
XIf necessary: Wipe the posioner to clean it.
Incorrectly ed screws can cause damage.
XSelect the screw length according to the
depth of the mounng holes.
XS-325 only: Do not use the holes in the
moon plaorm.
Unsuitable mounng can warp the posioner
and reduce the accuracy.
XMount the posioner on an even surface
with similar thermal expansion properes
(for recommended atness, see manual).

Mirrors not xed centrically can damage the
posioner.
XFor dynamic applicaons, mount the mirror
as near to the center as possible to prevent
uneven loading of the exures and, as a
whole, the posioner.
XRecommended eccentricity: 0.25 mm
Operang voltages that are excessively high or
incorrectly connected can cause damage to the
posioner.
XObserve the operang voltage range of the
posioner (see manual).
XObserve the correct pin assignment.
Excessively fast discharging can destroy the
piezo actuators of the posioner.
XDischarge the posioner only according to
the instrucons in the manual.
Startup
If a protecve earth conductor is not properly
connected, touching the posioner in the case
of malfuncon can result in minor injuries from
electric shock.
XOnly operate the posioner with a properly
connected protecve earth conductor.
XDo not remove the protecve earth con-
ductor from the posioner during opera-
on.
XObserve the applicable standards for aa-
ching the protecve earth conductor .
The surface of the posioner and the sur-
rounding area can heat up during operaon.
Touching the posioner and surrounding parts
can result in minor injuries from burning. The
heat produced during operaon can aect your
applicaon.
XIf possible: Cool the posioner suciently.
XIf necessary: Install touch protecon.
XIf sucient cooling and protecon against
contact are not possible: Mark the danger
zone in accordance with the legal regula-
ons.
XInstall the posioner so that your applica-
on is not aected by the dissipang heat.
Moisture, liquids, and electrically conducve
materials (e.g., metal dust) that penetrates
the posioner, as well as surroundings with
increased conducvity, can destroy the piezo
actuators of the posioner.
XOnly operate the posioner within the per-
missible ambient condions (see manual).
XDo not operate a vacuum-compable posi-
oner during evacuaon.
Uncontrolled oscillaon can damage your appli-
caon or the posioner.
XIf oscillaon occurs, switch o the servo
mode or stop the posioner immediately.
XCheck the sengs of the servo-control
parameters (see the manual for the elec-
tronics).
Operaon
Connuously high voltages can reduce the
lifeme of the posioner.
XKeep the maximum operang voltage as
low as possible during operaon.
XDischarge the posioner appropriately
when it is not in use.

Mounng the Mirror
NOTICE!
Incorrect mounng of a mirror or mirror
holder can damage the posioner and
reduce the posioning accuracy.
XClamp the mirror holder above the
exure only.
XUse a suitable mirror and adhesive.
XDo not allow adhesive to get into the
posioner.
XS-325 only: Do not use the holes in
the moon plaorm.
