IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTES

DANGER

BATTERY EXPLOSION HAZARDS

• Never try to charge non rechargeable

batteries. It may explode because the battery

isn't suitable for charging.

• Never charge a damaged battery it may occur

an explosion because of broken cells.

• Never charge a frozen battery. It may explode

because of gas trapped in the ice. Allow a

frozen battery to thaw out first.

• Never place the charger on top of the battery

when charging as it could cause a short circuit

which may lead to explosion.

DANGER

ELECTRIC SHOCK

• Observe all warning notes on the battery

charger

• Disconnect the supply cord from the main during

all work on the electrical system.

• Ensure that the cabling dies not jam or comes

into contact with hot surfaces or sharp edges.

• Check the cables prior to use. Ensure that no

cracks have occurred in the cables or bend

protection. A charger with damaged cables

must not be used. A damaged cable must be

replaced by the supplier.

WARNING

OVERHEATING AND FIRE

• Always provide for proper ventilation during

charging.

• Avoid covering the charger.

• A battery being charged could emit explosive

gases.1Prevent sparks close to the battery.

WARNING

CHEMICAL EXPOSURE

• Battery acid is corrosive. Rinse immediately with

water if acid comes into contact with skin or

eyes, seek immediate medical advice.1

WARNING

SHORT CIRCUIT

• Chargers with IP-class lower than IPx4 are

designed for indoor use. See technical

specification.

• Do not expose to rain or snow as they could

cause a short circuit across the main.

CAUTION

CHARGER HANDLING

• All batteries fail sooner or later. A battery that

fails during charging is normally taken care of

by the chargers advanced control, but some

rare errors in the battery could still exist. Don’t

leave any battery during charging unattended

for a longer period of time.

• Always check that the charger has switched

to maintenance charging before leaving

the charger unattended and connected for

long periods. If the charger has not switched

to maintenance charging within 50 hours

(24h lithium), this is an indication of an error.

Manually disconnect the charger.

• Batteries consume water during use and

charging. For batteries where water can be

added, the water level should be checked

regularly. If the water level is low add distilled

water.1

intended for use by persons (including

children) with reduced physical, sensory or

mental capabilities, or lack of experience

and knowledge, unless they have been given

supervision or instruction concerning use of the

appliance by a person responsible for their

safety. Children should be supervised to ensure

that they do not play with the appliance.

• (EN 7.12) This appliance can be used by

children aged from 8 years and above and

persons with reduced physical, sensory or

mental capabilities, or lack of experience and

knowledge if they have been given supervision

or instruction concerning use of the appliance

in a safe way and understand the hazards

involved. Children shall not play with the

appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance

shall not be made by children without

supervision.

NOTICE

POSSIBLE VEHICLE DAMAGE

• The charger is designed for charging

only batteries according to the technical

specification. Do not use the charger for any

other purpose. Always follow battery/vehicle

manufacturers recommendations.

• Connection to the mains supply must be in

accordance with the national regulations for

electrical installations.

• Chargers with grounded mains plug must only

be connected to a grounded socklet outlet.

HOW TO CHARGE WITH 12V SOCKET

1. Connect the charger to the vehicle.

2. Connect the charger to the wall socket.

3. Press the MODE-button to select charging program.

4. Lock the vehicle.

5. Follow the indication lamps through the charging process.

The battery is ready to start the engine when

Li-Ion

is lit.

The battery is fully charged when

Li-Ion

is lit.

6. Stop charging at any time by disconnecting the mains cable from the

wall socket.

READY TO USE

Li-Ion

The battery is ready to use when the lamp is lit.

Please note that charging times are longer in

low ambient temperatures.

The table shows the estimated time for an empty battery to 80% charge.

ERRORS AND SOLUTIONS

ONLY POWER LAMP IS ON

(indication lamps and battery program lamps are off)

1. No charging program has been selected or the

charger has been disconnected (e.g. through a

power cut).

Press the MODE-button to select a charging program.

ERROR LAMP IS LIT

1. Connected battery is not supported.

The Charge-o-mat Pro is designed for 12 V batteries only.

2.Faulty polarisation (if adapter is used).

Check polarisation and correct if necessary.

3.Charging has been interrupted.

Restart the charger by pressing the MODE-button. Repeat up

to 5 times if not successful. If problem persists the battery…:

Li-Ion

...can not accept charge.

...may be too large for the charger to wake up.

Li-Ion

...can not keep charge and may need to be replaced.

POWER LAMP FLASHES

1. Charger is not connected to the battery within

2 minutes.

Connect charger and press the MODE-button to select a

charging program.

2.Vehicle socket has been deactivated (max 30

minutes).

The vehicle's 12V sockets are deactivated if no charge is

applied for 30 minutes to protect the vehicle battery.

• Turn vehicle ignition on and off once before charging if the

ignition has been turned off for more than 30 minutes.

• Switch on the vehicle ignition once after the charger has

been disconnected for more than 30 minutes, e.g. through

a power cut.

3.There must be no warning or information mes-

sages relating to low battery status displayed

in the vehicle.

If there are, the sockets will be deactivated after a maximum

of 30 minutes, despite charging being in progress. The

charger must then be connected via a clamp adapter

(available via Porsche Tequipment) to the vehicle’s charging

points.

4.Li-Ion battery only: Under voltage protection

(UVP) has been activated.

The on-board UVP (under voltage protection) prohibts the

battery from being charged. Please refer to the information

on the chapter BATTERIES WITH "UNDER VOLTAGE

PROTECTION".

CHARGING WITH THE CLAMP ADAPTER

An optional clamp adapter is available via Porsche Tequipment. This

enables you to charge a battery if no 12V socket or cigarette socket can be

used.

1. Connect the red and black clamp in accordance with the vehicle manual.

2. Connect the charger to the wall socket.

3. Charge until

Li-Ion

is lit.

4. Disconnect the charger from the wall socket before disconnecting the

battery.

5. Disconnect the black clamp before the red clamp.

BATTERIES WITH "UNDER VOLTAGE PROTECTION"

Some Lithium-ion batteries have an on-board UVP (under voltage

protection) that disconnects a discharged battery. This prohibits the charger

from detecting the battery. To bypass this, the charger needs to deactivate

the UVP.

1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery

2. Connect the red and black clamp in accordance with the picture below

3. Connect the charger to the wall socket

4. Select Li-Ion charging program and press the MODE-button for 10

seconds until one of the indication lamps is lit (procedure may be

repeated).

WARNING

DURING THIS PROCESS, THE CHARGER IS NOT SPARK FREE

5. Follow steps 3 to 5 as above ("Charging with the clamp adapter") and

reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

CHARGING WITH THE CLAMP ADAPTER IF

BATTERY IS DISMOUNTED

1. Connect the red and black clamp in accordance with the picture below.

2. Follow steps 2 to 5 as above (“Charging with the clamp adapter”).

protection will ensure that the battery and charger are not damaged.

4Back current drain is the current that drains the battery if the charger is not

connected to the mains. This battery charger has a very low back current.

5The quality of the charging voltage and charging current is very important.

A high current ripple heats up the battery which has an aging eﬀect on the

positive electrode. High voltage ripple could harm other equipment that is

connected to the battery. This battery charger produce very clean voltage

and current with low ripple.

DESULPHATION

Detects sulphated batteries. Pulsing current and voltage, removes sulphate from the

lead plates of the battery restoring the battery capacity.

SOFT START

Tests if the battery can accept charge. This step prevents that charging proceeds with

a defect battery.

Charging with maximum current until approximately 80% battery capacity.

ABSORPTION

Charging with declining current to maximize up to 100% battery capacity.

ANALYSE

Tests if the battery can hold charge. Batteries that can not hold charge may need to
