1 Product Introduction
1.1 Overview
The RG-SAP185-SP-W is a dual-band 802.11ax-compliant access point (AP) released by
Ruijie Networks for indoor scenarios in the general education, higher education, hotel,
office and dormitory. With simple and beautiful appearance design, the RG-SAP185-SP-W
can be deployed without damaging the wall decoration. It is the optimal choice for
wireless network deployment in hotels and dormitories.
The AP adopts the latest 802.11ax protocol and dual-band technology. The 2.4 GHz Radio
Frequency Processing Unit (RPU) provides a maximum access rate of 574 Mbps, and the
5 GHz RPU provides a maximum access rate of 2.402 Gbps. In this way, this AP can
provide a maximum access rate of 2.976 Gbps, which eliminates the bottleneck in
wireless performance. The RG-SAP185-SP-W provides two wired ports, including one
1000 Mbps LAN port and one 1000 Mbps uplink port, and two pass-through ports for
wired access. The design of the AP considers factors such as wireless network security,
radio control, mobile access, Quality of Service (QoS), and seamless roaming. Working
with Ruijie wireless access controllers (AC), the AP implements user data forwarding,
security, and access control.
The RG-SAP185-SP-W supports local power supply and power over Ethernet (PoE).
Customers can flexibly select the power supply mode based on the site environment.
1.2 Product Appearance
The RG-SAP185-SP-W has two radio connectors and two Ethernet ports. The Ethernet
ports on the rear support 802.3af/at-compliant PoE. It also has one micro USB console
port, one Reset button, and two pass-through phone ports compatible with RJ11. The
following figures show the product appearance.

To power the AP by using PoE, ensure that the device at the other end of the

2 Preparing for Installation
2.1 Safety Precautions
Note
To avoid personal injury and device damage, carefully read the safety precautions
before you install the device.
The following safety precautions do not cover all possible dangers.
2.1.1 General Safety Precautions
Do not expose the AP to high temperature, dusts, or harmful gases. Do not install the
AP in an inflammable or explosive environment. Keep the AP away from EMI sources
such as large radar stations, radio stations, and substations. Do not subject the AP to
unstable voltage, vibration, and noises.
The installation site should be free from water flooding, seepage, dripping, or
condensation. The installation site should be selected according to network planning,
communications equipment features, and considerations such as climate, hydrology,
geology, earthquake, electrical power, and transportation.
The installation site should be dry. You are not advised to install the AP in a place near
the sea. Keep the device at least 500 meters (0.31 miles) away from the ocean and do
not face it towards the sea breeze.
Do not place the device in walking areas.
During the installation and maintenance, do not wear loose clothes, ornaments, or any
other things that may be hooked by the chassis.
Keep tools and components away from walking areas.
2.1.2 Handling Safety
Do not move the AP frequently.
Cut off all the power supplies and unplug all power cords before moving or handling
the AP.

2.1.3 Electric Safety
Warning
Any nonstandard and inaccurate electric operation may cause an accident such as
fire or electrical shock, thus causing severe even fatal damages to human bodies and
the device.
Direct or indirect touch through a wet object on high-voltage and mains supply may
bring a fatal danger.
Observe local regulations and specifications when performing electrical operations.
Relevant operators must be qualified.
Carefully check for any potential danger in the working area. For example, check
whether the ground is wet.
Find out the location of the emergency power supply switch in the room before
installation. First cut off the power supply in case of an accident.
Be sure to make a careful check before you shut down the power supply.
Do not place the equipment in a damp location. Do not let any liquid enter the chassis
The working ground of the AP should be properly separated and kept as far as
possible from the grounding device of the power equipment or the lightning
protection grounding device.
Keep the AP away from radio transmitters, radar transmitting stations, high-frequency
large-current devices, and microwave ovens.
2.1.4 Storage Security
To ensure the normal operation of the AP, you must store the AP in an environment
based on storage temperature/humidity requirements in 1.4 Technical Specifications.
Caution:
If the AP is stored for more than 18 months, power on the AP and run it for consecutive
24 hours to activate the AP.
