1. IDENTIFYING THE MACHINE
Data plate is mounted to the rake’s main frame in the place shown below (Fig. 1).

CAUTION:
For more detailed information concerning the rake ask your dealer or
manufacturer.
2. INTRODUCTION
 This operator’s manual should be considered as the basic rake’s equipment. If the rake is handed
over to another operator, it should be in working condition and given away along with
operator’s manual and it’s other basic equipment.
 Operator’s manual is attached to every machine in order that the operator can familiarize
himself with design, working principles, service and adjustment of the rake. The user of the rake
should be familiar with common safety rules and procedures.
 The rake is manufactured according to international safety rules.
 Compliance with the warnings in this operator’s manual will ensure safe operation.
 Please contact your dealer if you have any queries relating to the operation and service of
the rake.
 Operator’s manual remains part of rake’s equipment.

When operating the rake please comply with the warnings and
safety regulations shown throughout this manual by this safety
alert symbol .
CAUTION:
Operation of the rake before reading the operator’s manual carefully as
well as operating by the unauthorized staff, especially by children, is
strictly forbidden.

3. PROPER USE
SaMASZ rotary rake is designed for raking forage, dry forage and hay.Rotary rake can only
be used by people familiar with its technical data, danger situations that may occur during operation
and how to avoid them.
CAUTION:
Use of the rake for other purposes than the above mentioned is
forbidden. Different use than the above mentioned will be considered
as improper and may lead to revoking of the warranty. Rake should be
used, operated and repaired only by people familiarized with its
detailed specifications and with safety rules and regulations. Willful
changes of the rake will lead to revoking of the warranty.
Rotary rake Z-300 works properly with tractors (class 2,0 and power from 20 HP). Rotary
rake Z-350 works properly with tractors (class 2,0 and power from 20 HP). Rotary rake Z-410
works properly with tractors (class 2,0 and power from 30 HP). Rotary rake Z-470 works properly
with tractors (class 2,0 and power from 50 HP).

3.2. Design and working principle
3-point linkage frame (6) enables attachment of the rake to tractor’s 3-point linkage.
The driver from tractors PTO is transmitted by means of PTO shaft placed inside the main frame of
the rake on a rotor (2). On a rotor there are arms mounted (7), to which the arms with tines are
attached (8). On the frame there are safety guards (4). During transport outside arms are taken off
and placed inside the holders (8). The levers (3) are used to regulate the height of raking. The rake
is equipped with a curtain (5), which formulates a windrow.

3.3. Standard equipment and spare parts
The rakes are sold with the following standard equipment:
 warranty card,
 operator’s manual along with spare parts list,
 PTO shaft,
 spray paint (150 ml).
Additional equipment:
 suport wheel for rakes,
 drawbar for pulling the rakes on wheels.

UWAGA:
Lubricate the PTO shaft with high quality multi - purpose grease every
50 shaft operating hours. If access holes are available, lubricate fittings
through access holes. See decal on guard if applicable (Fig. 4).
PTO shafts of other brands with equivalent parameters could be used afetr SaMASZ permission.

4. SAFETY ADVICE
4.1. Safety rules and regulations
 Front axis of the tractor should be weighted to keep the balance. If need be, use front wheel
weights.
 Any operation with the hydraulic lift lever should be done from the operator’s seat; DO NOT
move the lever from outside of the tractor.
In case of tractors equipped with EHR, operating with hydraulic lift is done by the buttons
mounted outside the tractor’s cabin. When operating be extremely careful,
 When switching from working to transport position unmount the whole or at least one end (from
tractor’s PTO) of PTO shaft.
 Operation without safety guards as well as with the damaged or raised guards is not allowed
(danger of the stones, etc. being thrown out).
 Raking can only be started after the power take-off reaches a nominal PTO speed.
 Nobody is allowed to remain within the danger area. Particular caution is necessary when
operating near roads and in stoney areas.
 Any maintenance and adjustment work should only be done after the drive has been
disconnected and when the rotors have come to the complete standstill.
 When driving on public roads always comply with local traffic regulations, especially
concerning warning lights.
CAUTION:
All service and repair operations must be done only after the tractor engine
has been stopped, all rotating parts have come to the complete standstill.

CAUTION:
Be certain that children and animals are at a safe distance away from the
machine. Never allow anyone to ride on a machine or tractor.
 When the rake is lifted for repair on the 3-point linkage, it should be secured against
falling by a mechanical support or by chain.
 The bolts and other fasteners have to be periodically checked and, if necessary, tightened or
replaced. DO NOT work with damaged or worn fasteners.
 The regulator line changing the position of the rake should have enough slack and be properly
installed in the cabin of the tractor.
 During operation of the rake the Regulation of the Farm Ministry and Food Economy
(Rozporządzenie Ministra Rolnictwa i Gospodarki Żywnościowej) from 12-01-1998 dealing
with safety and hygiene during the operation of tractors, machinery, tools andequipment used
for farming (Dz. U. Nr 12/98 poz. 51), should be observed,
 When operating the rake, the tractor should always be equipped with the cabin.
 Rake should not be operated when the tractor-rake set is not balanced.
 Never start the rake when it is lifted.
 Never start the rake, when people or animals are near the machine.
 Always comply with the safety decals describing hazards, and warning signs placed on
the machine.
 Before you start the tractor make sure that every other drives are turned off and the levers
steering hydraulics are in neutral position.
 Never leave the tractor’s engine running without supervision. Before you leave the tractor, turn
off the engine and put off the key from tractor’s ignition switch.
 It is forbidden to operate the rake when driving backwards.
 Never get on the rake in any case.
 Never lift the rake on tractor’s 3-point linkage when the drive is on and the rotors are rotating.
 Never stand between tractor and rake, before tractor-rake set is secured against moving by
the tractor’s brake.
 Every maintenance work and regulations can be done only when the rake is on the ground.
 If any maintenance work or regulation under lifted rake is needed, it must be secured against
falling.
 When the parts of the rake need replacement, use only original spare parts according to spare
parts list.
 Pay particular attention to PTO shaft’s guards and rake’s and tractor’s spline shaft guards.
Never work with damaged guards.
 The rake should be stored under roofed places and in the way that it will not harm people or
animals.
4.2. Transport
 Every position change of the rake can only be done when there is nobody around (pay particular
attention to children).
 For the transport period put warning plate with combined lights and reflectors and warning
triangle on the rake.
 During transport always put the rake to transport position. See chapter 5.2.
 Before putting the rake to transport position make sure, that the tractor’s PTO is turned off and
all the rotating parts have come to complete standstill.
 Driving speed should always be adjusted to road conditions.
 Permissible speed is 25 km/h and it cannot be exceeded.

4.2.1. Putting the rake onto another vehicle for transport
The driver and the carrier are responsible for rake’s transport safety. Equipment and parts
must be secured during transport.
To put the rake onto another vehicle in a safe way, please obey the following rules:
 seize the rake by any lifting devices only in the places indicated by the hook sign (Fig. 5),
 for rake lifting use only lifting devices with hoisting capacity bigger than rake’s weight shown
in data plate. It also concerns ropes and chains used for lifting,
 collapsible parts should be blocked in transport position,
 during putting the rake onto another vehicle it is forbidden for anybody to remain in transport
area,
 on the vehicle’s trailer the machine should be secured against moving.
CAUTION:
Securing maneuvering area and transport of the rake is
the responsibility of a person who does it.
4.3. Working parts
 Before operating the rake check tine’s condition.
 Worn or damaged tines should be immediately replaced with new one.
4.4. PTO shaft
 Before operating learn provisions found in bar manufacturer's manual placed on the bar.
 Use only PTO shafts recommended by rake’s manufacturer.
 In order to operate safely use only fully technically fit, undamaged PTO shafts. Damaged PTO
shaft shall be repaired or replaced with new one.
 Before any operation make sure whether PTO rpm have proper rotational direction.
4.5. Residual risk
Despite the fact, that company SaMASZ Białystok – the manufacturer of the rake takes
responsibility for design and manufacturing of the rake, in order to eliminate dangerous situations,
certain risk during rake’s operation is unavoidable.
Major source of risk follows performance of these operations:
 operation of rake by minors as well as not being familiarized with operator's manual,
 operation of rake by persons under influence of alcohol or other abusive substances,
 not keeping caution while transportation and shifting of rake during operation,
 transport of persons remaining on the machine,
 presence of persons and animals within the rake operation range,
 performing operations related to servicing and adjustment with engine on.
1. Danger of catching
This kind of risk occurs during changing the position of a rake, operation near rotating parts,
working without safety guards.
During operation, maintenance and regulations always wear protective gloves, shoes and
clothes without loose parts, belts and so on. Always comply with safety decals placed on the rake.
2. Danger of injury
This kind of risk occurs during replacement of working parts with sharp edges. During any
maintenance work always use safety gloves.

CAUTION:
Residual risk always results from incorrect behaviour of rake’s
operator.
3. Bans
Please bear in mind the following bans during rake’s operation:
 never unblock the rake, make any regulations or repairs of the rake while it is in motion,
 never change the order of operation and maintenance activities described in operator’s manual,
 never operate the rake when it is not in working order or has damaged safety guards,
 never get your hands and legs close to rotating parts of the rake,
 during repair and maintenance of the rake always comply with the descriptions included in
operator’s manual. Always do these activities when the tractor’s drive is off,
 before you start any activities, focus your attention on them,
 never operate the rake under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or strong medicines,
 your clothes should not be too loose, or too tight. Too loose cloth parts may be pulled in by
the rotating parts of the rake,
 the rake cannot be operated by children or by handicapped people.
When describing residual risk, the rake is treated as a machine, that up to the moment of its
putting in motion it had been designed and manufactured according to technology level actual till
the day of rake’s manufacture.
CAUTION:
Residual risk occurs in case of not complying with described
instructions and bans.
4.5.1. Residual risk assessment
When keeping such recommendations as:
 thorough familiarizing with operator’s manual,
 no persons remaining on the machine when operating and during drives,
 no persons remaining within the rake operation range,
 adjustment, maintenance and lubrication of the machine with engine off,
 performing repairs of the machine only by skilled persons,
 operation of the machine by persons, which are familiarized with operator’s manual,
 in the event of the machine protection against children and unauthorized personnel residual risk
when operating the rake may be limited to necessary minimum.
When the risk of exposing to noise cannot be avoided or eliminated by any
group protective means or organization of work, employer (farmer) must:
1) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection, if the noise
level in work place exceeds 80 dB.
2) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection and supervise
the correctness of its usage, if the noise level in work place reaches or
exceeds 85 dB.

5. OPERATION
5.1. Attaching the rake to the tractor
The rake is connected to the tractor’s 3-point-linkage as shown in. After the rake has been
attached, adjust (on the flat ground) the rake’s position by means of top Sand lower Wlinks.
Lower links W should be connected to 3-point linkage frame pins. Support chain L holds up rake’s
linkage frame (Fig. 6).

After the rake has been attached to tractor, check the balance and steerability of tractor - rake
set. To do it, weigh the set and after that drive on the weigher with only the front axis of the tractor
(the rake must be in transport position – lifted upwards). If the pressure on the front axis is at least
20% of the whole set’s pressure, it means the set is stable. If not, the front axis should be balanced.
5.2. Preparing the rake to transport
To prepare the rake to transport and to meet safety precautions, please do the following:
 roll up swath curtain to the maximum and secure it with cotter pin,
 lift safety guards to transport position,
 take off extreme rotors, put them in the transport holes,
 lift the rake with tractor hydraulic lift until the lower lift pins of the rake 3-point linkage frame
raise about 50 cm above the ground,
 lift support legs (9) (Fig. 3).

Rake Z-410 can also be transported upon dismounting outer arms only (Fig. 8)
(Note: transport width cannot be more than 3 m). In order to prevent other arms from moving freely
and therefore causing potential damages to the machine lock gear against any rotation (Fig. 9).

CAUTION:
Prior to operating with the machine the gear must be unlocked. Otherwise it
may lead to damaging the rake.

5.3. Transportinh rakes aggregated with tractor by means of tiller (option)
In case of smaller tractors, transporting rakes is possible by means of tiller (optional
equipment) as provided on Fig. 10.

Mount tiller on pins (R) of rakes’ linkage and upper tractor’s hitch (Z) (Fig. 11). Couple

NOTE: CAUTION:
When transporting rakes aggregated with tractor by means of tiller,
adjust driving speed to conditions ahead on the road and pay particular
attention on turns.
5.4. Preparing the rake for transport on public roads
To meet safety precautions concerning transport on the public roads in Poland the rake should
be equipped with portable warning-light plates, to be mounted on both sides of rake.
CAUTION:
Warning devices can be ordered from the rake’s manufacturer.

5.5. Mounting PTO shaft
Prior to commencing operation, examine and adjust length of PTO shaft, which is designed
to mount machine on tractor. In some cases it is possible, that the shaft is too long and therefore
needs to be shortened, so that there is adequate tolerance for the shortest possible distance between
tractor’s shaft Oand machine’s shaft P.
Shaft length should be adjusted individually for tractor, on which the machine is mounted.

In order to determine minimal shaft length:
 set aggregated rakes in working position, / (by means of 3-point linkage, adjust connector end
of machine’s PTO Pon the most approximate height, on which tractor’s PTO is mounted)
 take measurement of distance between two shafts as provided on Fig. 12 and Fig.13,
 next additionally distract 150 mm from the resulting measurement in order to keep tolerance
and shorten the shaft for this particular length (Fig. 14). Information on proper shortening of
shafts is provided in item 5.5 herein, on decal N-149 placed on the machine and also found in
shaft’s manual provided by its manufacturer.

As a result of following the abovementioned instructions, minimal length of PTO shaft is
obtained, and then it can be used safely to mount the machine on the tractor.

CAUTION:
When using links to lift the machine suspended on 3-point linkage, PTO speed
should be reduced or absolutely it off at the angle of shaft work more than 25°.

PTO shaft’s end with overrunning clutch should be mounted on rakes’s side.The PTO shaft
plastic guards have to be secured by fastening their small chains to immovable parts of tractor and
rake.
CAUTION:
If need be, shorten the PTO haft according to its operator’s manual given by
the shaft’s manufacturer (Fig. 15).

CAUTION:
The PTO shaft should be mounted only during operation time and
disconnected from tractor PTO for transport and service.
CAUTION:
Use the machines with PTO shafts designed to drive them. Before
the work begins, check the safety guards (in tractor, rake and PTO
shaft), if they are placed correctly and are not damaged. Damaged or
lost parts must be replaced with genuine ones. Make sure the PTO shaft
is properly mounted. It is forbidden to approach the rotating parts,
because it may lead to serious injuries or even death. All service and
repair operations must be done only after the tractor engine has been
stopped, all rotating parts have come to the complete standstill and the
cutterbar is on the ground. Before the operation begins, read operator’s
manuals of both the machine and PTO shaft.
CAUTION:
PTO shaft’s end with overrunning clutch should be mounted on rake’s
side.
5.6. Switching from transport to working position
 make sure there is nobody around in the place where you are going to lower the rake,
 by means of hydraulic lifting lower arms of the rake in the slowliest way in order to cushion
contact with the ground,

 take off arms from transport holders, put them into the rotors and secure them with cotter pins,
 lower safety guards,
 unlock gear locking (if locked),
 unfold swath curtain on demanded length.
5.7. Preparing the rake for work
When the rake is in working position, please do the following:
 connect PTO shaft between tractor and rake,
 by means of regulation lever (lift or lower) adjust demanded working height,

 slowly engage PTO clutch and wait until the rake reaches its speed 300÷350 obr./min. Adjust
working speed so that the machine rakes clearly.
 engage tractor gear and drive slowly into the swath

CAUTION:
Long operation with nominal 540 rpm may lead to premature wear of
the gearbox.

5.8. Operation
Rotary rake is designed for raking forage, dry forage and hay after rotary tedder treatment.
