PRODUCT COMPATIBILITY
Clever is intended for the tilt function control of made-to-measure horizontal blinds. Clever is typically not compatible with off-the-shelf
blinds or blinds that are cut down to size at big box retailers.
Clever is compatible with popular brands widely available through online stores,as well as major retailers. It is still important to verify that
the headrail style is compatible before installing,as there is some variation in the market.
Not sure of your brand? No worries. Simply try each of the included adaptors until you find the perfect fit.

OTHER ITEMS YOU MAY NEED

• A hammer
• A ruler or measuring tape
• A pair of pliers
• A pair of scissors
• A step ladder
• A second set of hands when taking down and
re-attaching the blinds can be helpful
• A can-do, positive attitude – because you’ve got this!
IMPORTANT INSTALLATION & SAFETY TIPS
• Use reasonable care and caution when handling the Clever motor and control device.
• Make sure you use a genuine Somfy controller for all your Clever motorized blinds. Somfy offers multi-channel remote control devices
to accommodate any motorized blind application, whether single blind or multiple blind installations. Please visit somfysystems.com for
more information.
• Use care when inserting the motor into the headrail. The edge of the blind headrail can be sharp.
• Be careful not to drop, impact,or puncture the Clever motor or immerse it in any liquid. If your motor has been damaged in any way, please
contact Somfy for assistance.
• Follow each of the steps outlined in the installation instructions that follow. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental damage
to your window blind. Also, please don’t use Somfy Clever for anything other than its intended use, as this will void the product warranty.
• And most importantly,don’t worry too much. Just roll up your sleeves, follow the steps, and you’ll be done in no time!

STEP 1REMOVE THE BLINDS
1a. Carefully remove any valances or decorative covers from the top-front of each blind to be motorized.
1b. Manually tilt the blinds to the fully open position. Then raise the blinds all the way up. If your blind has a tilt wand, remove it now.

1c. Open the blind brackets on each end of the blind. NOTE: Some brackets open upward from the bottom; others may swing outward to
the side. You may need to use a screwdriver to help open them.

1d. Carefully remove the blind away from the open brackets, as shown. Then remove the blind from the window area and place on
a flat work surface.

1e. Use a hammer and screwdriver to gently tap off both end caps.
CAUTION Headrail edges may be sharp, so take care when working with it.

STEP 2PREPARE FOR MOTOR INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT Before you install the Clever motor, it is important to make certain that it and the headrail adaptors
will fit securely in the headrail. Remove the headrail adaptors included in the packaging and make certain that
at least one pair fits properly in the headrail – not too loose or too tight. If the fit isn’t right, please contact Somfy at
1-800-822-7468 and do not proceed with the installation.
2a. Select the correct pair of headrail adaptors (B) that best match the size & shape of your blind’s headrail. Set them aside.

2b. Select the tilt rod adaptor (C) that best matches your blind’s tilt rod. NOTE: Only one tilt rod adaptor is required. Set it aside.
