Overview
The BKDM-7041 consists of an option board and software which
enable the use of the so-called Digital SKETCH™ Effects,
including the BEVELED EDGE and SKETCH effects.
You can use this option not only with the DME-7000 but also with
the DME-3000.
Software versions
To use the BKDM-7041 requires the following software versions
to be running:
DME-7000: software version 1.00 or later
DME-3000: software version 1.50 or later
Effects provided Mounting the BKDM-7041 in a DME-3000/7000 allows you to
use the following extra functions:
BEVELED EDGE: provides a beveled edge to an image.
SKETCH: provides a range of effects based on the outline of the
image, and giving impressions of drawing or relief.
COLOR GRABBER: allows you to extract a color from an input
image for use in a matte.
About this User’s Guide
This manual describes how to carry out Digital Sketch Effects
from the control panel (BKDM-3010). You can keep this manual
together with the User’s Guide for the operation software control
(BZDM-3020/7020) in the ring binder supplied.

This gives an image a beveled edge.
LIGHT MATTE
In the BKGD & EDGE menu, select F8 (BEVELED EDGE) to
display the BEVELED EDGE menu.

BEVELED EDGE menu soft key indications
The following are some of the operations carried out in this menu.
Applying a beveled edge effect – F1 (BEVELED EDGE)
and F2 (PATTERN)
Use the following procedure.
1Press F1 (BEVELED EDGE), turning it on.
2Press F2 (PATTERN), to select the edge shape.
Pressing this button cycles through the patterns, in the order
four corners, lower right, lower left, upper left, upper right.
You can also select the required pattern by clicking on it.
3Press F3 (EDGE MODE) to select one of the following.
LIGHT: Vary the intensity of the edge.
MATTE: Apply a color to the edge.
For more details, see the section “Selecting the border color
or edge intensity” on the next page.

4Adjust the “Width” parameters.
• Left knob (“H”): width of left and right beveled edges (0 to
100%)
• Center knob (“V”): width of top and bottom beveled edges
(0 to 100%)
• Right knob (“All”): width of all beveled edges (***)
(The “All” setting is reflected in the separate horizontal
and vertical settings.)
Making the boundaries of the edges soft – F6 (SOFT)
Use the following procedure.
1Press F6 (SOFT), turning it on.
2Adjust the “Softness” parameters.
• Left knob (“Innr”): degree of softness of the inside of the
edges (0 to 100%)
• Center knob (“Bund”): degree of softness of the boundary
between two edges (0 to 100%)
Selecting the border color or edge intensity – F8 (EDGE
SOURCE)
Use the following procedure.
1Press F8 (EDGE SOURCE).
The EDGE SOURCE menu appears.

2Press F1 (EDGE MODE), to select “MATTE” or “LIGHT”.
3When you selected “MATTE”, for a single hue press F2
(FLAT COLOR), or for a progressively changing hue press F3
(HUE ROT), turning it on.

4Adjust the parameters for the edges.
“MATTE” parameters
• Left knob (“Lum”): luminance (0 to 100%)
• Center knob (“Sat”): saturation (0 to 100%)
When you selected “FLAT COLOR”:
• Right knob (“Hue”): hue (0 to 359.99 degrees)
When you selected “HUE ROT”:
• Right knob (“Sped”): change in hue for each frame (–12 to
+12 degrees)
“LIGHT” parameters
• Left knob (“Lum”): luminance (0 to 100%)
SKETCH Settings – 46
This gives a range of effects based on the outline of the image, and
giving impressions of drawing or relief.
SKETCH DRAW 1 RELIEF
In the VIDEO MODIFY menu, select F6 (SKETCH) to display the
SKETCH menu.
The following are some of the operations carried out in this menu.

Applying a sketch effect – F1 (SKETCH) to F3 (NEGA)
Use the following procedure.
1Press F1 (SKETCH), turning it on.
2Press F2 (MODE), to select “SKETCH”.
The soft key indications appear as follows.
SKETCH MODE NEGA
SKETCH menu soft key indications (“SKETCH” mode)
3Adjust the “Contour” parameters.
• Left knob (“Clip”): reference level for outline extraction (0
to 100%)
• Center knob (“Gain”): image gain for outline extraction
(–100 to +100%)
• Right knob (“Mix”): mix amount for input video (0 to
100%)
4Adjust the “Chroma gain” parameters.
• Left knob (“Gain”): chroma gain of sketch image (–100 to
+100%)
5To invert the black/white sense of the image used for outline
extraction, press F3 (NEGA).
When this is set to “ON” the outline is white, and when set to
“OFF” it is black.
Enhancing outlines – F1 (SKETCH) to F5 (EDGE HUE
ROT)
Use the following procedure.
1Press F1 (SKETCH), turning it on.
2Press F2 (MODE), to select “ENHANCE”.
The soft key indications appear as follows.

3Adjust the “Contour” parameters.
• Left knob (“Clip”): reference level for outline extraction (0
to 100%)
• Right knob (“Mix”): mix amount for input video (0 to
100%)
4Adjust the “Chroma gain” parameters.
• Left knob (“Gain”): chroma gain of sketch image (–100 to
+100%)
5To interchange the outline portions and non-outline portions,
press F3 (NEGA).
6To apply a single hue to the outline portions, press F4 (EDGE
FLAT), turning it on, and to use a progressively changing hue
press F5 (EDGE HUE ROT), turning it on, then adjust the
parameters.
For details of the parameter settings, see the section
“Selecting the border color or edge intensity” (page 4).
Applying a drawing effect – F1 (SKETCH) to F8
(CANVAS FRM MEM)
Use the following procedure.
1Press F1 (SKETCH), turning it on.
2Press F2 (MODE), to select “DRAW1” or “DRAW2”.
DRAW1: use a two-valued outline extraction signal.
DRAW2: use a continuous outline extraction signal.
The soft key indications appear as follows.

4To apply a color to the outline portions, press F4 (EDGE
FLAT) or F5 (EDGE HUE ROT), turning it on, then adjust the
parameters.
For details of the parameter settings, see the section
“Selecting the border color or edge intensity” (page 4).
5To apply a color or insert an image in the portions other than
the outlines, press one of F6 (CANVAS FLAT) to F8
(CANVAS FRM MEM), turning it on.
F6 (CANVAS FLAT): any single hue
F7 (CANVAS HUE ROT): a progressively changing hue
F8 (CANVAS FRM MEM): an image from frame memory
The color settings when you select F6 or F7 are the same as
for the outline portions. For details of the frame memory
selected by F8, refer to the BZDM-7020 User’s Guide, or the
supplement to the BZDM-3020.
6To interchange the outline portions and non-outline portions,
press F3 (NEGA).

Applying a relief effect – F1 (SKETCH) to F4 (CHROMA
TYPE)
Use the following procedure.
1Press F1 (SKETCH), turning it on.
2Press F2 (MODE), to select “RELIEF”.
The soft key indications appear as follows.

3Adjust the “RELIEF” parameters.
• Left knob (“Ofst”): intensity level for relief (0 to 100%)
• Center knob (“Gain”): gain for relief (0 to 100%)
• Right knob (“Mix”): mix amount of relief pattern and
luminance signal of input video (0 to 100%)
4To change the relief pattern, press F3 (RELIEF PATTERN).
Each time you press the button the way in which the light
impinges changes.
5Select the chrominance signal for mixing with the relief.
VIDEO: input video image chrominance signal
FLAT COLOR: internally generated matte
6Adjust the “Chroma” parameters.
When you selected “VIDEO”:
• Left knob (“Gain”): chroma gain of input image (–100 to
+100%)
When you selected “FLAT COLOR”:
• Center knob (“Sat”): saturation of “FLAT COLOR” (0 to
100%)
• Right knob (“Hue”): hue of “FLAT COLOR” (0 to 359.99
degrees)

COLOR GRABBER Settings – 78
This allows you to extract a color from an input image for use by
an internal color matte generator.
For details, see the BKDM-7020 User’s Guide, or the supplement
to the BZDM-3020.
