WARRIOR™Operation Manual
3
•Sperian respirators, accessories, an
associate equipment shoul not be use in
atmospheres which may contain contaminant
concentrations above the lower explosive
level (LEL). Intrinsic safety certification of
electronic components oes not eliminate
potential anger from ignition in these
atmospheres.
•The pressure within the Sperian facepiece
remains positive un er most working con i-
tions, but as with all SCBAs, negative pressure
excursions are possible. Con itions when an
SCBA can experience negative facepiece
pressures inclu e, but are not limite to: 1) the
SCBA is improperly worn, 2) the SCBA is not
use in accor ance with the instructions, 3) the
SCBA is improperly maintaine , or 4) the SCBA
is over-breathe uring heavy work rates. The
SCBA will provi e re uce protection when
operate in a negative pressure mo e.
•Some sensitive in ivi uals may experience
health problems when expose to even minute
amounts of contaminants. This SCBA will not
prevent health problems for those in ivi uals.
•Persons sensitize can have a severe reac-
tion to chemicals at levels such as the OSHA
Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL), ACGIH®
Threshol Limit Value (TLV®), or NIOSH
Recommen e Exposure Limits (REL). Do not
use this SCBA if you have been sensitize from
previous exposure or believe that you may be
sensitive or allergic to any chemicals (e.g.,
organophosphate, isocyanates, latex, etc.).
•Do not alter or mo ify this SCBA in any
manner. Mo ifying this SCBA will voi NIOSH
certification an may create a con ition in
which the SCBA woul not provi e the
inten e protection. Do not remove, obscure,
or alter any labels on the SCBA.
•Some in ivi uals are sensitive to chemicals
(e.g., isocyanates, latex, oil mists, etc.) or may
have some type of respiratory isor er (e.g.,
asthma, chronic obstructive airway isease,
etc.). If you are sensitive to any chemical or
have a respiratory isor er, you may have a
severe reaction at contaminant levels well
below accepte health levels, such as the
OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit value, or the
NIOSH Recommen e Exposure Limit (REL).
Many chemicals (e.g., isocyanates, mercury,
etc.) have no physical warning properties an
you cannot taste or smell the contaminants
even though they may be present in the
facepiece. This SCBA will re uce, but will not
eliminate, the possibility of contaminants
entering the facepiece an causing a severe
reaction. Do not use this respirator un er these
con itions.
•Discontinue use if you experience skin
irritation or iscoloration.
•You must rea , un erstan , an follow all
warnings, instructions, labels, Material Safety
Data Sheets (MSDS), etc., for the materials you
are using (e.g., paints, har eners, insectici es,
varnishes, etc.). You must also rea , un er-
stan , an follow all warnings, instructions,
etc., liste in the MSDS for any contaminants
that may be or are present in the work area.
•An impact to the secon stage regulator
when the cylin er valve is open may ina ver-
tently activate the First-Breath-On mechanism,
causing air to flow from the regulator an
iminishing the air in the cylin er.
•ONLY grasp the cylin er valve han wheel to
open or close the valve; DO NOT pick up or
carry a cylin er by the han wheel, rop a
cylin er on the han wheel, or bump the
han wheel, as this may cause the cylin er
valve to ina vertently open, which may lea
to the cylin er becoming airborne un er the
thrust of air release from the open valve,
causing injury or eath. ALWAYS pick up an
carry an air cylin er by the cylin er bo y.
